四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、   Have you ever noticed the black and white bars on a bookDo you know what they are used for?

They are bar-codes(条形码)used in most products. If you go to a supermarketyou can see almost every product with a bar-code on it. Bar-codes have information about the product, such as name and production date. It's an easy and convenient way to know about the products. Just scan the bar-code and everything is clear.

The first use of a bar-code in a supermarket checkout system was on a pack of American Wrigley Company chewing gum in 1974.Beyond supermarkets, bar-codes are needed everywhere:for renting cars, for luggage checks on a plane, for parcels(包裹) you send. Life would be rather difficult without bar-codes.Most of our things would get lost in the post.

Bar-codes change as well.Bar-codes in the past were 1-D(one-dimensional空间), but now there are 2-D bar-codes,such as QR code.Since 2009, QR has been used on Chinese train tickets. People can enter stadiums, cinemas and theaters by holding certain types of bar-codes.

With these small codes, life is getting much easier for us.

If you find these bar-code things boring, a bar-code building might be more up your street. In St Petersburg, Russia, there is a building designed like a bar-code.It looks strange, but it's actually a shopping mall. There are games too. Bar-code Monsters is a mobile phone game. • 26、At about 6 p. m. on Saturday, a forest fire broke out in a village in Mu Li, Liangshan. The local government acted quickly and 689 people were sent to put out the fire. Fire groups were fighting the fire on Sunday when a sudden change of wind direction caused “a huge fireball”. 27 firefighters and 3 locals lost their lives. Most of the firefighters were in their twenties and two of them were less than twenty, though several were older. Their death touched our hearts all over China. There is enough reason to regard them as heroes. President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang and many other leaders expressed condolence to the heroes’ families and friends.

We should remember all the heroes and their spirit, bravery showed in fighting the fire. As the old saying goes: a nation is lost without its memories. Forest fires are common in spring. Rules to prevent fires have come out in Liangshan. Many experts believe there are some reasons for forest fires. The first reason is weather change. Warmer and drier weather leads to dangerous fire conditions. Next, lightning is another reason. Dry grass and trees easily catch fire. Finally, hot winds add to the possibility of forest fires. The wind spreads a fire quickly. However, 90% of forest fires are caused by humans, according to a report. Forest fires can burn at over 900 ℃ and reach heights of more than 50 meters. Forest fires can move at speeds of up to 23 kilometers an hour, burning everything—trees, brush, homes, even people... Experts remind people to be careful during the holiday of Qingming, known as Tomb Sweeping Day. Millions of people travel to their homes during the holiday, so the risks of fires in mountains are high.

In order to keep the heart-broken lesson in mind, we should stop fires from happening again.

【1】According to the passage, which of the following is NOT true?

A.All the firefighters who lost their lives were in their twenties.

B.About 700 people were sent to put out the fire.

C.A sudden change of wind direction led to “a huge fireball”

D.The death of the heroes touched our hearts around China.

【2】All of the following can cause forest fires except ________ in the passage.

    A.weather change

    B.lightning and hot winds

    C.human behavior

    D.Tomb Sweeping Day

【3】What does the underlined part mean in this passage?

A.We should remember the reasons for forest fires, including the conditions from nature and humans.

B.We should remember the heroes and their spirit, bravery showed in fighting the fire.

C.We should remember the number of the heroes that lost their lives in fighting the fire.

D.We should remember to be careful during the holiday of Qingming, known as Tomb Sweeping Day.

【4】You can probably find this passage in a ________.

    A.news report

    B.fairy book

    C.storybook

    D.novel
