25、French and American doctors have done an operation (手术) together in which the doctors were outside the operating room. This kind of operation is known as robotic operation.
Doctor Marescaux did the operation in an office in New York City last month, while a sixty-eight-year-old woman patient was in a hospital in Strasbourg, France.
A doctor in Strasbourg got the patient ready. He placed medical tools and a small video camera in her stomach area. Doctor Marescaux in New York watched the patient on a video screen. Then he used the computer to send messages to the robot machine.
The robot moved the tools that cut the woman’s gallbladder (胆囊) away. The woman got well soon after the operation and left the hospital two days later.
Experts say the main problem with such a robotic operation is based on high-speed telecommunications (通讯系统) between the doctor and the robot. Technology must be able to send a doctor’s order to a robot to move the tool quickly.
Experts also say a successful robotic operation will improve an operation. For example, the robot can make such smaller movements than a person can. A robot machine can turn tools in ways that a doctor’s hand cannot.
Doctors say such a robotic operation will make possible safer and better operations in the future. They say it will improve doctor training. It will also mean that doctors could do an operation on people in dangerous places far away. And it could mean that people could have operations done by top doctors without having to travel to the city where the doctors work.
【1】The underlined phrase “ robotic operation” means “________.”
A.a special kind of robot invented by doctors
B.something done to mend a robot.
C.an operation done by French and American doctors

【3】We use the robot in the operation because ________.
A.it can send messages in a high speed
B.even a top doctor can’t do the operation himself
C.it can make the operation safer and better
D.operations can be done without and doctors.

C.Experts speak highly of robotic operation.
D.The robot is used to watch the patient clearly.
26、With the Chinese language growing in popularity, the UK government plans to invest 10 million pounds to help more kids learn Chinese. Do you think it is necessary for UK pupils to learn Chinese?
Seneca (Canada)
I studied French for 2 years in high school, and German for 4 years in college and got good marks. I studied Chinese for about 4 months before moving to China. Any language, if you don’t use it, it will be easy to lose. I’ve forgotten the French I learned except for a few phrases. I speak Chinese every day. My writing, reading and listening are quite good, but far from fluent. I think nowadays, it’s almost necessary to learn Chinese.
Tony (the UK)
Learning any language can be valuable, but it is not suitable for everyone, Chinese is a difficult language to learn and teachers in the UK are not good at teaching foreign languages. However, China is a big and developing market for English business people. For them, Chinese is worth learning.
Bill (the US)
I don’t think Chinese will become as widely spoken throughout the world as English. To learn Chinese, you have to devote yourself to learning how to write and read it. It’s too difficult to learn. But in the future Chinese will become more popular, and that is a good thing.

27、If you know something is bad for you, why can't you just stop? About 70% of smokers say they would like to stop. Drug and alcohol abusers (酗酒者) struggle to give up the bad habits that hurt their bodies and destroy families and friendships. And many of us have unhealthy weight that we could lose if only we would eat right and exercise more. So why don't we do it?
Some scientists have been searching for answers. They've studied what happens in our brains as habits form. They've found answers to why bad habits, once formed, are so difficult to kick. And they're developing ways to help us make the changes we'd like to make.
Habits are a normal part of life, and are often helpful."We wake up every morning, shower, comb our hair or brush our teeth without being aware of it, "Volkow says. We can drive along familiar routes without really thinking about the directions."When behaviors become automatic(不加思索的),it gives us an advantage, because the brain does not have to perform the action on purpose."Volkow says. This frees up our brains to focus on different things.
One way to kick bad habits is to focus on your unhealthy habits. Then try your best to stop them. For example, habits can be linked in our minds to certain places and activities. You could develop a plan, say, to avoid walking down the hall where there's a candy machine. Try to avoid going places where you've usually smoked.Stay away from friends and situations linked to problem drinking or drug use.
Another helpful way is to replace unhealthy habits with new, healthy ones. "It doesn't work for everyone, "Volkow says. "But certain groups of patients who have a history of taking a drug can do something else like running and it helps them stay away from drugs."
