  • 25、   Text messaging, or simply "texting", which allows people to send and receive messages on mobile phones, becomes very popular today.

The advantages(优势) of texting are obvious(明显的). Texting helps to save money. If you have a few words to greet your families and friends on their birthdays or on some important festivals, sending messages can be cheaper than phone calling. Texting helps to save time. Even if you want to send a message to 100 people, you can do it one second. Texting helps you to "talk" to someone when he is too busy to answer the phone. Texting can also help you to "talk" to someone secretly if you don't want others to hear what you are talking on the phone. These advantages are so amazing that many people are crazy about it. They hold mobile phones in hands all day long, send dozens of messages each day, and even text while driving or walking.

However, texting has its disadvantages. Junk messages may come into your mobile phone box now and then. When your phone box gets too full, you can't receive any more messages. You may therefore miss some important information.

What's more, if you don't do texting properly, for example, texting while driving or walking, it can be dangerous. It can cause injuries(伤害) and even death. It was reported that about 6,000 people were killed and half a million were injured for this reason each year. In Fort Lee, a small town in New Jersey, the USA, three people died because they walked into traffic while texting in 2011. Two researchers at Stony Brook University, New York found that texters are 60% more probably to have an accident than others. When people are texting, they don't notice other people or things around them. To reduce traffic accidents, all drivers of the USA are now not allowed to text while driving. About 32 countries have passed laws restricting the use of mobile phones while driving.

Texting is a wonderful way of communication. However, only when we use it properly, can we fully enjoy the fun it brings.

    1What’s the passage talking about?

    A.Mobile phones B.Text messaging C.Computers D.Festivals

2How many advantages of texting are mentioned in the passage?

    A.Two. B.Three. C.Four. D.Five.

3What did the researchers at Stony Brook University find?

A.Texters are easier to have an accident. B.Texting is a good way of communication.

C.6,000 people were killed and injured. D.Many people text to greet families and friends.

4The underlined word “restricting” probably means “_________” in English.

    A.not telling B.not allowing C.enjoying D.making

5This passage is written to tell us that __________.

A.we should do less texting B.texting has many advantages

C.texting is better than phone calling D.we should do texting properly

  • 26、 Many years ago, on my first day of college, a roommate of mine turned to me for help. He took a bottle of soda out of his bag. The lid, was too tight. I (quite easily) opened it for him.

One week later, we started to receive military training (军训). We had to gather (集合), I was still in dreamland at 5: 20.That roommate of mine woke me up. I sincerely (诚挚地) thanked him. Luckily, neither of us was late for that day’s training.

Later that day, I had a chat with that roommate. I said that we were no longer just classmates; we had already become friends .Perhaps, we didn’t have to mind our p’s and q’s so much around each other. He thought over my words and nodded. Over the next four years, we continued to help each other quite often.

I always feel thankful when someone offers me a helping hand. But I was often too shy to say thank you out loud. And I always felt embarrassed (尴尬的) whenever someone thanked me for a small favor (帮忙).

After I started to work, however, my attitude towards thanks changed. A thank you is often just a polite ending to a conversation. However, it is important. Saying thanks directly lets the other side know that I am thankful. It also makes the office a lovelier place.

Thanks is a powerful word. Whenever you feel thankful, say it.

    A.Express our thanks directly.

B.Understand the power of thank you.

    C.Be thankful in our lives.

    D.Help others whenever possible.

    【4】How is the text organized? (①=Paragraph 1, ②=Paragraph 2……)

    A.

    B.

    C.

    D.

  • 27、   More than two thirds of the world's polar bears will be wiped out ( 消灭) by 2050, according to a shocking new study. By then, scientists say, global warming will have melted 42 percent of the Arctic sea ice. By 2100, only a very few of these important creatures will be left. The report has been produced by the US Geological (地质学的) Survey. The scientists have publicized their findings in the hope of influencing US Interior Secretary (内政部长), Dirk Kempthorne, who has been asked to put polar bears on the US endangered species list. Polar bears depend on floating sea ice as a platform for hunting seals, which are their main food. Without enough ice, polar bears would be forced to go onto the land, where they are poorly skilled hunters, and would be unlikely to adapt (适应) to the life on the land in time. Experts say few little bears would survive and the stress could make many females unable to get pregnant.

The team of American and Canadian scientists spent six months studying bears, on the ground, from spotter planes (侦察机) and in the lab, using computer models. Some team members fear the result is even worse for the bears than what their report says. They say the Arctic is warming faster than anywhere in the world and much faster than their computers had been forecasting(预测). Satellite observations have showed that the ice has decreased to an all-time(空前的) low.

However, not everyone in the scientific community believes that global warming is happening on such an alarming scale (报警规模). Another investigation has found that polar bears are still being hunted by wealthy “sportsmen” who want their skins and heads. At least ten international companies offer bear-hunting trips.

1What do we know about Dirk Kempthorne according to the passage?

    A.He is an animal scientist.

B.He is a protector of animals working for the US government.

C.He was asked to put polar bears on the US endangered species list.

D.He offered to put polar bears on the endangered species list.

2Why will polar bears die out if there is not enough sea ice?

A.Because polar bears can't catch enough food without ice.

B.Because polar bears eat ice when they feel thirsty.

C.Because polar bears will be easily found by hunters without ice.

D.Because most female bears are used to giving birth under ice.

3What does the writer want to tell us in the last paragraph?

A.The forecast about the future of polar bears is not correct.

B.Global warming won't have any effect on hunting trips in the Arctic.

C.Polar bears are an endangered species as a result of bear-hunting.

D.People don't pay enough attention to the protection of endangered bears.

4What is this passage mainly about?

A.Global warming makes the whole world different.

B.Human beings are responsible for the endangered species.

C.Most of the polar bears will be wiped out by the end of this century.

D.Scientists have found that most animals in the Arctic will die out by the end of this century.
