四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、No matter what country they are held in, state banquets (国宴) are grand (盛大的) and mysterious. They are dinners hosted by the government to welcome guests from other countries.

What was the menu like? Here is one according to China Daily. It is usually a great mix of delicate (精致的) Chinese food and popular Western dishes. There were five hot dishes. Kung Pao Chicken caught the eyes of the guests because it is also popular in Chinese restaurants in the US. Coconut-flavored Chicken Soup (椰香鸡豆花) showed how Chinese food had developed, while Stewed Beef Steak in Tomato Sauce (番煎牛肉) and Seafood Chowder (奶汁煽海鲜) were more Western.

China’s state banquets are usually held in the Great Hall of the People, reported CCTV. The banquet hall there can hold 5,000 people at one time. The dishes served at state banquets show cooking styles from all over China.

To make the dishes right for guests from different countries, Chinese chefs have been improving their skills over the years. Besides flavor, they also consider a guest’s “tastes, age and state of health”.

There are very strict hygienic requirements (卫生要求) for China’s state banquets, reported CCTV. For example, a chef must change gloves at least 20 times for each dish, as well as follow six steps to wash his or her hands.

What comes to mind when you hear the phrase “space meat”? It sounds quite weird. But in fact, it could very well be the future of the human diet.

A Russian astronaut recently “grew” meat aboard the International Space Station. Yes, you read that right - he grew it using cells( ) provided by an Israeli company called Aleph Farms. But in fact, he was not the first person to create lab-grown(实验室培育的) meat. Dutch scientist Mark Post grew the first lab meat in 2013.

But why bother growing meat in a lab when we can get the real thing from cows? For one thing, lab-grown meat is healthier. “We gain greater control over what the meat consists of(由……组成), for example its fat content,” Post said in an interview with The Atlantic. Lab-grown meat is also free of the chemicals that are used on farms, such as pesticides(农药) and growth hormones(激素).

Are there other ways to replace(代替) regular meat? McDonalds is trying to do so with the P.L.T., which stands for plant, lettuce and tomato. The first P.L.T. burgers are already being sold in Canada, according to the fast food company.

The “meat” in the P.L.T. is made out of Beyond Meat, a plant-based meat substitute( ) created by a company from Los Angeles, US. The company uses pea, rice and bean proteins to produce patties(肉饼) that look and taste like real meat.

Experts doubt whether these products are healthier than real meat. But they have already proven to be a success, with several fast food companies already offering such products on their menus, according to Fox Business.

1What did the Russian astronaut do recently?

A.He grew meat on the International Space Station.

B.He provided cells for an Israeli company.

C.He built a lab for growing meat in space.

D.He created the first lab-grown meat in the world.

2Why is lab-grown meat healthier than real meat?

A.Because it is made from healthy cells.

B.Because it is produced in clean labs.

C.Because lab meat doesn’t consist of fat.

D.Because producers can control what’s in the meat.

    3According to the story, P.L.T. burgers   .

A.taste better than normal burgers B.are made out of plant protein

C.are already being sold in the US D.are served by many fast food companies

4What do experts think of plant-based meat products?

A.They will be the future of the human diet. B.They are free from harmful chemicals.

C.They might not be healthier than real meat. D.They have already proven to be a success.

5What is the best title of this passage?

A.Where can we find the P.L.T. burgers? B.How does fake “meat” taste?

C.How do people grow “meat” in the lab? D.Why is meat unhealthy in space?

Smoking in indoor public places including public working places, public transport vehicles(车辆)and some other special outdoor working places has been banned(禁止)in China since January 2011.Let’s look at the following advantages of banning smoking.

First, banning smoking will not only help in saving smokers from health problems and diseases, but will also be good for passive(被动)smokers. When the smoker is smoking in a restaurant, the people around him are sure to breathe(呼吸) in the smoke and suffer from(受苦,患病) the diseases an active smoker gets. If smoking is banned, spread of these diseases can be controlled(控制).

Next, banning smoking will put stress on smokers to give up. Since a smoker is prevented from smoking, he will learn how to live without smoking for long hours. When a smoker doesn’t smell or see anybody around him smoking, it might reduce his wish to smoke too. As a result, people have to give up smoking.

Smoking in public places influences non-smokers to start smoking, especially adolescents. When teens see people around them smoking, they will follow them easily. Thus the number of teen smokers will increase. Also asthma(哮喘)and other problems are often seen in children living around smokers. So if it is banned, these places will become safe for children and teenagers.

Looking from the economic point of view, smoking should be banned to increase work productivity(生产率).Employees(雇员)who smoke usually take breaks to smoke while working. So the number of hours they put in their work is smaller.

If you see from the environment point of view, smoking should be banned. Smoking causes air pollution. If it is banned, it will help keep the environment from getting worse.

    1________ doesn’t belong to a non-smoking place

    A.A field B.A hospital C.A library D.A restaurant

2The second paragraph mainly wants to tell us ________

A.banning smoking is good for restaurants

B.banning smoking is good for non-smokers

C.banning smoking is good for spread of diseases

D.banning smoking is good for active smokers and passive smokers

3According to the text, the underlined word “adolescents” means ________

    A.men B.women C.adults D.teenagers
