二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、Named after the “quest (探索) for heavenly truth”, Tianwen 1, China's first Mars probe (探测器), has given us breathtaking images of the red planet.

These are the first close-up images of Mars' surface taken by China, which were made public by the China National Space Administration (CNSA) on March 4, this year. The probe shot high-definition pictures while traveling in Mars' orbit. Craters (撞击坑), mountain ridges (山脊) and sand dunes (沙丘) can clearly be seen. CNSA estimated that the largest crater in the image could be about 620 meters in diameter (直径).

The pictures were taken at different distances from Mars. The two black-and-white images were taken by the high-resolution (高分辨率的) camera on Tianwen 1 when the probe was about 330-350 kilometers above the Martian surface. As for the color image, it was taken by Tianwen 1’s medium-resolution camera.

It is the shooting modes that determine if the images are black-and-white or colored. The high-resolution camera can take both color and panchromatic (全色的) images. Panchromatic images, which are black and white, are the clearest, containing the largest amount of data for scientific study. The medium-resolution camera, although featuring automatic exposure and remote control, can only produce lesser clear images. Scientists combined the panchromatic and color images, obtaining a clear and beautiful color image.

Tianwen 1 was launched on July 23rd, 2020 and landed on Mars on May 15th, 2021. The success of Tianwen 1 mission makes China another nation after the U.S. and the Soviet Union to land on Mars. Now China is among the leading countries in planetary exploration by virtue of advanced technology and Chinese spaceflight spirit.

【1】Which of the following is NOT true?

    A.Panchromatic images are colored.

B.The images were issued on March 4.

C.Tianwen 1 landed on Mars in May this year.

D.China is the third nation to land on Mars.

【2】What do we know about the pictures of Mars taken by Tianwen 1?

A.CNSA released five high-resolution images of Mars recently.

B.Mountain ridges are not clear enough in the pictures.

C.The panchromatic images include more data.

D.They are the first close-up images taken of Mars.

    【3】How were these images taken?

A.They were all taken by a high-resolution camera.

B.They were taken in different shooting models.

C.The colors of the images were adjusted by a remote control.

D.They were taken when the probe passed Utopia Planitia.

【4】What is the author’s main purpose in writing the article?

A.To describe the techniques Tianwen 1 used to take these pictures of Mars.

B.To tell us the difficulties in taking pictures of Mars.

C.To introduce pictures of Mars released by CNSA.

D.To inform readers of the importance of these images of Mars.

  • 22、Rachel Kunhner, the author of Telex from Cuba, The Mars Room, and The Flamethrowers, has got some excellent books for you.

    Agortino by Alberto Moravla (1944).

When my son turned 13, my mother said to me, “You have to read Agostino.” Agosino is a perfect novella and perhaps the best literate ever written about being a 13-year-old boy. It’s painful and tender and funny. A masterpiece.

The Copenhagen Trilogy by Tove Ditlevsen(196771).

Ditlevsen was a 20th-century Danish writer. Her trilogy of short memoirs, Childhood, Youth, and Dependency, is becoming the subject of a literary craze. As 8oon as you sink your teeth in, you’ll understand why. The books are fascinating. The problem is they bite back. I’m still recovering.

    Star by Yukio Mishima (1960).

There are a lot of Mishima novels that haven’t been translated into English. This novella about a movie star losing touch with reality only recently was. “A true star, ” Mishima writes, “never arrives. Showing up is for second-rate actor who need to seek attention. ” Want to seem glamorous? Stay home. Attending things is for the second-rate.

The Expendable Man by Dorothy B. Hughes (1963).

Donna Tart once recommended Hughes to me. I’m so glad she did. While Hughes’ most famous book, deservedly 80, is In a Lonely Place. The Expendable Man has one of the best opening sequences of any mystery novel: A man driving from L. A. to Phoenix picks up a hitchhiker—a dirty and ungraceful teenage girl—with grave consequences.

【1】Which book may appeal to readers crazy about mystery-solving stories?

    A.Star.

    B.The Expendable Man.

    C.The Copenhagen Theology.

    D.Agostino.

【2】What do we know about these books?

A.There has been no English version of the book Star up to now.

B.The Copenhagen Trilogy describes the author’s whole life.

C.All these books are recommended to Rachel Kuchner by others.

D.Agostino is a good choice for parents of teenagers.

【3】Where is this text most likely from?

    A.A column.

    B.A guidebook

    C.An announcement.

    D.A textbook

  • 23、The scientists placed underwater speakers in areas where coral had been dying in Australia’s northern Great Barrier Reef. They played certain sounds over a period of about 6 weeks and studied the results. The team reported that twice as many fish arrived in areas where the sounds of healthy coral were played. Among the arriving fish were species that feed on all major food sources.

The researchers noted the importance of having many different kinds of fish return to the area. Different species of fish perform many activities that support the ocean environment and sea life. “Damaged reefs have a higher chance of recovery if they have healthy fish population,” the scientists wrote in the report.

Steve Simpson said that “healthy coral reefs are remarkably noisy places.” They contain the sounds of many kinds of shrimp, fish and other sea creatures. Young fish listen for these sounds when they are looking for a place to settle. He added that reefs “become ghostly quiet” when they suffer destruction that is usually related to human-caused pollution. Coral damage can cause unappealing smells and sounds that drive shrimp and fish away.

Mark Meekan is a fish biologist. He said that the return of these fish is the first step to seeing major improvements in reef health. “Recovery is underpinned by fish that clean the reef and create space for corals to regrow,” he said. Tim Gordon says he believes sound can be used to bring back dead coral in areas suffering major destruction in oceans across the world.

University of Bristol professor Andy Radford said the underwater sounds are a promising way to fight coral reef damage at the local community level. But he noted that other threats need to be reduced as well. These include climate change, pollution and overfishing. From local management innovations to international political action, we need meaningful progress at all levels to paint a better future for reefs worldwide.

【1】Why did researchers attract fish by playing sounds underwater?

A.To study the population of fish.

B.To catch fish as major food sources.

    C.To recover damaged reefs naturally.

D.To record the sounds of healthy corals.

【2】How did Steve explain the coral reefs?

    A.By presenting the research results.

    B.By making comparisons.

    C.By listing some specific data.

    D.By giving some examples.

【3】What does the underlined word “underpinned” in Para.4 mean?

    A.Destroyed.

    B.Affected.

    C.Supported.

    D.Attacked.

    【4】What does Professor Andy stress?

A.Reef needs protection at all levels.

B.Climate change is more serious than reef damage.

    C.Overfishing threatens world coral reef.

    D.Pollution needs international political action.

  • 24、Anyone who has an idea worth sharing is capable of giving a powerful talk. The only thing that truly matters in public speaking is not confidence, stage presence, or smooth talking.【1】

I am using the word “idea” quite broadly here. It doesn’t have to be a scientific breakthrough, a genius invention, or a complex legal theory. 【2】Or a human insight illustrated with the power of a story. Or a beautiful image that has meaning. Or an event you wish might happen in the future. Or perhaps just a reminder of what matters most in life.

An idea is anything that can change how people see the world. If you can create a great idea in people’s minds, you have done something amazing. You have given them a gift of incalculable value.【3】

But, more likely, you have far more in you worth sharing than you’re even aware of. You don’t have to have invented something. You’ve led a life that is yours and yours only.【4】There are insights to be drawn from some of those experiences that are absolutely worth sharing. You just have to figure out which ones.

【5】You’ve invented nothing. You’re not particularly creative. You don’t see yourself as super-intelligent. You don’t have any particularly brilliant ideas about the future. You’re not even sure there’s anything you’re super-passionate about.

Well, I grant you, that’s a tough starting point. To be worth an audience’s time, most talks require grounding in something that has some depth. It’s theoretically possible that the best thing you can do for now is to continue your journey, and search for something that really does grab you and make you want to go deep.

    A.Everything is hard at first.

    B.It can be a simple how-to.

    C.It’s having something worth saying.

D.You need to have confidence in yourself.

E.There are experiences you’ve had that are unique to you.

F.In a very real sense, a little piece of you has become part of them.

G.You may feel that you’ve done nothing that would be worth giving a talk about.
