二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、The COVID-19 pandemic (流行病) has changed how American schools operate. Over the past two years, students and teachers in many places have depended on virtual learning to slow the spread of COVID-19. Now many schools are open again. But attacks by cyber-criminals (网络罪犯) are making it hard for schools to return to normal.

Cyber-criminals use computer networks and software called ransomware to take control of computer systems that schools use to keep student information. The criminals say they will return control to the schools only if they receive a payment.

For teachers at a middle school in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the first sign of a widespread problem came during an early morning video meeting. Nobody could open attendance records, and everyone was locked out of class lists and test results.

Schools in New Mexico, Maryland, Florida, Wisconsin, New Jersey and other states have also reported problems with cyber-attacks.

It is said that there have been over 1, 200 attacks on schools since 2016. Over 200 of the attacks used ransomware to take control of school systems. Other forms of attack include people destroying video lessons.

In Baltimore, Maryland, a cyber-attack in late 2020 closed schools and made it difficult for students to continue leaning from home. Recent news stories have reported that it cost nearly $ 10 million to improve the school system’s information database and add safety to fight against future attacks.

The attacks are creating discussions on how to stop the attacks. Some people say teachers should use paper to keep track of student information instead of databases. But many teachers say that would make their work take much longer.

The crimes are also causing school systems and states to spend more money than usual. In New Mexico, state leaders are working to add $45 million to the budget (预算) to create a cyber safely program by 2027.

【1】What is ransomware used to do?

    A.Demand money from the schools.

    B.Control school budgets.

C.Prevent students from going to school.

    D.Make fun of school leaders.

【2】What were the teachers doing when the first cyber-attack happened in Albuquerque?

    A.Attending a video conference.

    B.Making preparations for class.

    D.Discussing examination results.

【3】What is the effect of cyber-attacks?

    A.Schools give up online classes.

B.Students’ information has been let out.

C.Much money is spent to fight against them.

D.Teachers use paper to keep information.

【4】Which of the following can the best title for the text?

A.Cyber-Attacks Put Off US Schools’ Reopening

  • 29、Some people take lots of exercise. Others keep to strict diets. But according to recent research, the best way to live a long and happy life is simple: Get a dog.

“We have known for many years that the company of a pet can increase well-being in a number of ways,” says Dr Bonnie Beaver, an animal behaviour specialist at Texas University. “For example, the survival rates of heart attack victims with pets are much greater than those of people without pets.”

According to Dr Beaver, pet owners are less likely to need a doctor. They recover more quickly when they do get ill. They have lower blood pressure, take more exercise and are more socially active.

Above all, they are happier.Seventy percent of the families Dr Beaver surveyed said that their family environment was happier after they got a pet. And this is what Dr Beaver and other researchers are trying to achieve. They want to find a scientific link between human happiness and a long life.

There is no final answer to this question yet, but it seems to be something to do with emotional ties. People with someone or something to love live longer. “There are many forms of animal-human relationship and some are very helpful,” says Dr Beaver. It seems that the more lovely an animal is, the more it benefits our health. As the saying goes, “if you want to be loved, get a dog.”

Pet ownership benefits men and women equally. Other life experiences divide the sexes. “Women are more sensitive to bad marriages than their husbands because they work harder at their relationships,” says Dr Janice Glaser of Ohio State University.

The message seems to be that a woman is better off with a good dog than a bad husband. Yet in some ways, men are similar to dogs. They like getting dirty and making a mess. They forget birthdays. They can disappear for days on end. How can they be better trained?

1According to the author, the company of a pet does good to a person in the following ways except  .

    A. having less chance of dying of heart attacks

    B. being more active in society

    C. being better off than others

    C. all life experiences have different effect on men and women
