二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、The secret to happiness is keeping busy, research has found. Keeping the mind occupied(被占据) with tasks—no matter how meaningless—keeps off negative emotions, the study found.

However, the bad news is that humans are seemingly born to be lazy in order to save energy, according to Professor Christoper Hsee, a behavioral scientist at Chicago University.

In a study, 98 students were asked to complete two surveys. After they had completed the first, they were made to wait 15 minutes to receive the next one. They were given a choice of either handing in the first survey nearby or a more distant location they had to walk to. Whichever option they chose, they received a chocolate bar. It turned out that about two-thirds(68students) chose the lazy option. Those who had taken the walk reported feeling happier than those who had stayed put.

Professor Hsee concluded that keeping busy helped keep people happy. He said the findings, reported in the journal Psychological Science, had policy implications.( 暗示)

“Governments may increase the happiness of idle(闲散的) citizens by having them build bridges that are actually useless,” he proposed.( 提议)

At the individual level, he advised, “Get up and do something. Anything. Even if there really is no point to what you are doing, you will feel better for it.” He added,, “Incidentally, thinking deeply or engaging in self-reflection counts as keeping busy, too.”

“You do not need to be running around. You just need to be engaged, either physically or mentally.”

1Keeping busy can make people happy because_____________.

    A. it can help people get rid of laziness

    B. it can make people sleep better

    C. it can help get rid of negative emotions

    D. it can give people a sense of achievement

2Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?

    A. The finding may contribute to politics.

    B. The officials have taken Pro.Hsee’s advice.

    C. In the study half students handed in the first survey nearby.

    D. Governments can increase citizens’ happiness by building bridges.

3What can we infer from the passage?

    A. Everybody is born to be lazy.

    B. Only by keeping working all the time can you gain happiness.

    C. Pro. Hsee’s finding was published in Psychological Science.

    D. Keeping busy can add to the possibility of being happy.

4What is the author’s purpose in writing this passage?

    A. To explain what happiness is

    B. To advise people not to sit around

    C. To advise people to do what they like to

    D. To show people how to take life correctly

  • 27、On Nov. 30, 2020, NASA flight engineer Kate Rubins pulled out 20 radish(萝卜)plants grown in the space station’s Advanced Plant Habitat, wrapping them in foil for cold storage until they can make the voyage back to Earth next year.

Back on the ground, scientists at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida are growing radishes in a control group. The researchers will compare the space-grown radishes to the vegetables grown on Earth, checking on how space produce measures up on providing the minerals and nutrients astronauts(宇航员)need as they prepare for longer trips.

With their short growing time, radishes present potential advantages as a food source for future astronauts carrying out deep space missions in years to come. The radishes grow quickly, and they can be harvested in 27 days. The root vegetables also don’t require much care from people.

Astronauts have grown 15 different types of plants on the station, which include eight different types of leafy greens. And NASA has already tested more than 100 crops on Earth, identifying which plants to try out next in space. “Growing a range of crops helps us determine which plants grow better in microgravity and offer the best variety and nutritional balance for astronauts on long-time missions,” Dufour said.

Getting space agriculture right matters because the nutrients in the prepackaged food that astronauts currently eat in space degrade(降级) over a period of time, NASA said. Getting humans to Mars and back safely over a two-or-three-year mission requires growing food along the way. That not only gives astronauts more of a supply of fresh nutrients on the voyage, it also serves an emotional need as they tend to crops that are both a figurative(比喻的)and literal taste of home.

【1】Why do astronauts choose to plant radishes in the space station?

A.Radishes don’t need too much attention.

B.Radishes can be stored in cold conditions.

C.Radishes can supply enough nutrients alone.

D.Radishes’ growing time can be shortened in space.

【2】What’s the purpose of testing various crops on Earth?

A.To help researchers carry out experiments more correctly.

B.To provide astronauts in space with more choices of food.

C.To serve emotional support for astronauts on the voyage.

D.To make sure the plants grow well and avoid nutrition loss.

【3】What does the underlined word “they” refer to in the last paragraph?

    A.Astronauts.

    B.Nutrients.

    C.Researchers.

    D.Radishes.

【4】Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?

    A.Agriculture in the future

    B.The food for astronauts

    C.Planting radishes in space

    D.Preparations for space mission

  • 28、I was always blamed for watching too much cartoons. As I have said goodbye to my teenage, I shift to watching more movies to prove that I was a grown-up. Surprisingly, I found that movies have something in common with cartoons. They are unrealistic.

Sometimes movies give people hope, including the hope of justice, the hope of tomorrow and almost everything else. A great number of people were once touched by certain movies. From time to time, movies try to deliver some decisive ideas to the audience. In this way, movies do cheer up many people to go on with their lives.

It seems that there is a set formula in movies. We usually see the hero or heroine in the movies suffer a lot in the opening. Gradually and likely, the destination of them always comes to a turning point. So they have to struggle or make some important choices. Then the movie ends up with a happy finale. Or at least the hero finally manages to face his poor life with great courage somehow. However, when audience watch movies in the cinema, most of them just follow the story. Few of them may ask, “Will it happen in the real life?”

Movies are also imitating the real life. Thus a movie, just like a novel, can never be the same as the real life. The setting of a movie is so ideal that we could hardly find it out in reality. The moviemakers just try their best to persuade the audience to believe the story is true. In a word, it is all just make-believe.

For quite a long time, I think that the adults’ world is realistic in the opposite way of the children’s cartoon. However, the movies from the adult world turn out to be a made-up thing. At the very moment, I suddenly realize that movies are somewhat of the adult’s fairy tales or cartoons.

To sum up, other than false comfort such as movies and tales, we are more in need of the maturity of mind, so that we can face our lives bravely and correctly.

【1】With time going on, the author shifts to watching more movies because he thinks that_____.

A.they give him hope of justice and tomorrow in life

B.they are for adult and that he is now an adult

C.they help him forget the real world

D.they are similar to cartoons he used to watch

【2】Which of the following is true about the type of movies the author mentions?

A.The hero or heroine simply has met no difficulty at all.

B.The hero or heroine is able to deal successfully with any problems.

C.Sometimes there are cartoon characters in the movies.

D.The audience know they are simply foolish stories.

【3】The underlined word “make-believe” in Paragraph 4 probably means_____.

    A.something imagined to be real

    B.something too ideal to believe

C.a happy ending all the audience desire

D.a belief that is based on facts

【4】According to the author, which of the following is the side effect of the movies?

A.People may be confused by them.

B.Movies can usually improve real life.

C.Film fans just follow the movie stories.

D.False comfort may mislead the audience.

  • 29、Germany’s top court has ruled that parts of the country’s 2019 climate (气候) action law must be changed because they don’t do a good job of protecting young people. The result is a big victory for the nine young people who started the law suing (诉讼).

The court suing stresses an important part of the climate change: The change will impact greatly on young people far more than the adults. That’s because the effects of earth warming will become more serious over time. As young people become adults, they’ll be left to deal with many problems that today’s adults have ignored. The government’s failure to plan carefully was putting their future lives in danger.

In 2019, Germany passed a new law, promising that the country would be carbon neutral (碳中和) by 2050. The law made a detailed plan of action until 2030. But the law didn’t have any specific rules or plans for climate actions that would be taken between 2031 and 2050.

Last Thursday, the judges of Germany’s highest court agreed with the young people. They said that not taking climate action made the basic rights of young people to a good future in danger.

The young people had challenged the government’s law in four specific areas. The judges didn’t agree with all of the challenges. But having the court support even a part of their case is seen as a big victory. Neubauer is one of the young people who sued. She works with the climate action group Fridays For Future. Ms. Neubauer said, “Climate protection is our basic right. This is a huge win for the climate movement. It changes a lot.”

The court has given the German government until the end of 2022 to fix the law. The climate law will now need to have a much more detailed plan for the actions that will be taken after 2030 to cut Germany’s pollution, allowing it to become carbon neutral by 2050. Germany’s government has said that it will quickly begin working to make the needed changes.

【1】Why did the nine young people sue the Germany government?

A.They faced a higher rate of losing jobs.

B.The government refused their law suing.

C.The local court ruled against the climate law.

D.They weren’t satisfied with the climate action law.

【2】What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about?

A.The adults nowadays are put under pressure.

B.The climate change will influence the young.

C.Earth warming is becoming out of control.

D.Humans feel uncertain about the future.

【3】What is the government required to do about the climate law?

    A.Improve the present law.

    B.Win people’s wide support.

    C.Take strict punishment measures.

    D.Achieve carbon neutral in advance.

【4】In which section of a newspaper may this text appear?

    A.Business.

    B.Health.

    C.Education.

    D.Environment.
