二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、   Famous American poet Robert Frost once said, “Poetry is what gets lost in translation.” Although it is not impossible to translate poetry, Xu Yuanchong, a well-known Chinese translator, has striven to convey the beauty of ancient Chinese poetry throughout his life.

His teacher Qian Zhongshu commented on his poetry translation, “You are dancing while chained by rhyme (押韵) and rhythm, but the dance shows amazing freedom and beauty, which is quite extraordinary.”

Xu has just turned 100 years old. On April 1, China Translation and Publishing House published a series of commemorative (纪念的) books about his life and career to pay tribute to this centenarian.

Since 1978, Xu has published more than 100 translated novels, anthologies (选集) and plays in Chinese, English and French, reaching potentially millions of readers at home and abroad. Most notably, he translated Chinese poems into rhymed verses in both English and French. He is also the first Asian winner of the “Aurora Borealis Prize” for Outstanding Translation of Fiction Literature.

Xu is known to be very fastidious in his work. He has dedicated his life to“[translating] beautifully”. For him, English is a “scientific” language that demands accuracy, while Chinese is an “artistic” language that includes a wider range of content. Following this principle, Xu not only keeps faithfulness in sense but beauty in sensibility in his translation.

Through Xu’s translations, time-honored Chinese wisdom has made an impact on Western societies and the world at large.

For instance, when former US president Barack Obama tried to begin a controversial healthcare reform during his presidency, some senators (参议员) were opposed at first. But after reading the poem titled Fishing in Snow (《江雪》) translated by Xu, one senator was so impressed with the fisherman’s independent, non-conformist (不墨守成规的) thinking that he chose to part with the party line to support Obama, noted NewsChina.

Having made such great achievements, the 100-year-old remains diligent. He lives alone in an old house near Peking University. In his simple room, decorated with Chinese traditional furniture, he maintains a routine. Every day he translates roughly 1,000 words, working till 3 to 4 am, sleeping about 3 hours and getting up at 6 am to continue.

“Translation is a means of communicating with the writer’s soul. A sudden flicker (闪现) of [a] good word or [a] good line thrills every pore (毛孔) and every inch of my skin,” Xu told NewsChina.

【1】What does the article tell us about Xu Yuanchong?

A.He’s the first winner of The Aurora Borealis Prize.

B.He has translated about 100 Chinese literary works into English.

C.He is widely known for his translated rhymed verse.

D.He has mastered at least three foreign languages.

    A.Particular.

    B.Satisfied.

    C.Inventive.

    A.To show Xu’s popularity.

    B.To illustrate Xu’s impact.

    C.To introduce his reform.

【4】Which of the following best describes Xu?

    A.Modest and insightful.

    B.Considerate and cautious.

    C.Creative and open-minded.

    D.Dedicated and passionate.

  • 24、Our clothes do a lot for us. They keep us warm in the winter or cool while we’re working out. They let us dress to impress or comfortably veg out on the couch with the TV on. But some researchers think our clothes could be doing even more. Those scientists and engineers are dreaming up new ways to make clothes safer, more comfortable or just more convenient.

Some ideas for new clothes aim to protect people from harm. One new shoe design, for example, features pop-out spikes (鞋钉) on the sole that grip the ground. This could help people keep their footing on slippery or uneven ground. A new fabric coating, meanwhile, could absorb and neutralize (中和) some chemical weapons. That coating is made from a metal-organic framework that breaks down harmful compounds. It could offer protection to people in war-torn countries.

Not all advanced clothing is designed to save lives. Some could just make clothes more comfortable. One day, for instance, you may not need to layer up to stay warm. Fabric filled with nanowires could reflect your body heat back onto your skin. Electric current humming through those metal threads could provide warmth, too. This maybe especially useful for hikers, soldiers or others working in super cold conditions.

Some researchers have dream up wholly new uses for clothing —like turning wearers into walking power outlets. Flexible solar panels sewn into fabric could absorb the sun to recharge phones or other devices on the go. Another team threaded fabric with magnetized (磁化的) copper and silver to write data into fabrics. Such data-packed fabric could be used as a hands-free key or form of ID.

Many of these ideas have not yet left the lab—and they’re still pretty far from hitting retail (零售) shelves. But inventors hope these and other innovations could someday let you get more from your clothes.

【1】What do the underlined words “veg out” in paragraph 1 probably mean?

    A.Relax.

    B.Stand out.

    C.Work.

    D.Dream about.

【2】Why do the new shoes feature pop-out spikes on the sole?

    A.To make them comfortable.

    B.To make them fashionable.

    C.To prevent people from slipping.

D.To turn wearers into walking power outlets.

【3】What kind of clothes are suitable for hikers?

    A.Coats filled with nanowires.

B.Shoes with pop-out spikes on the sole.

C.Clothes with a new fabric coating.

    D.Clothes made of data-packed fabric.

【4】What can we infer from the last paragraph?

A.Many of these ideas are not realistic.

B.Many smart clothes are too expensive to afford.

C.People will benefit more from their clothes in future.

D.Many comfortable clothes will come to the market soon.

四、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。

The doctors sent my mother home to die. As a fifteen-year survivor of breast cancer, she had suffered two heart attacks when advanced cancer was found in her lung. The doctor told me sadly, "She has a few days, maybe a week. Her heart is weak and unstable. "Mom had struggled to raise three daughters while holding a full-time job, yet worked hard to maintain a warm home for her family. My plan for Mom’s final days was simple: she would live with love, and die with grace.

I took mother to my home, small but comfortable, which was a heaven to four cats and a dog. The animals had the run of my house. We equipped the bedroom with an electric hospital bed and an oxygen machine, which frightened the cats. I’d moved their furniture and the cats were annoyed. The dog, on the other hand, an immature dog with bad habits, was excited by all the changes in the house. He jumped up, barking. He is Otto who was not afraid of the hospital bed, the oxygen machine or the medical smells. Nor was he afraid of the weak woman who had scolded him. Otto jumped onto the foot of Mom's hospital bed, and stayed. With the exception of eating and using the litter box, Otto never left Mom's room.

Days passed and Mom started to rally. “Not unusual,” I was told, “a rally is often a sign of imminent death(回光返照)” I was heart-broken. But Otto would not give her up so easily. He used her improved condition to reposition himself from the foot of her bed to her side. Her thin fingers found his soft coat. He leaned into her body, as if holding tight the strings of her will to live. Though weak, she petted the dog and would not allowed me to take him. Days turned into weeks and Mom continued to fight.

    Paragraph 1

Once, after the nurses had gone for the day, I heard the sound of Mom’s voice coming from her room. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

    Paragraph 2

Three years later, Mom together with Otto is still here, medicines and nurses long gone. __ __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
