26、 Crimes happen every day, but people aren’t the only victims of illegal activities. There are also animals. Though animals can’t tell the police officers what they’ve suffered, these are some of the hardest cases to solve.
As we all know, poachers can make a lot of money by selling meat, fur and other parts of protected animals. As the animals become rarer, their parts become more valuable. So poachers earn even greater rewards for their collection of protected species. In the past few years, the price of ivory has risen to about $850 per kg. An ivory can sometimes weigh 11 kg or more.
Now, scientists are fighting back. It is known that DNA plays a big part in solving human crimes. Like fingerprints, DNA is unique to every person. So by examining DNA in blood or hair, the police can recognize criminals and victims.
When the police find poached animal parts, such as their fur or bones, it is difficult to know what species the victims are, which is mostly cared about. DNA can prove helpful in figuring it out and also where the animals came from. That’s because members of one local group of animals share more DNA in common with each other than they do with more distant groups of their species.
If the world’s poaching victims could talk, they would probably thank these scientists for their work.
【1】The author uses the example of ivory to show that ________.

27、 Typically, a person sitting in the driver's seat of a car opens the door with the hand closest to it. It makes sense since doors are designed to be opened that way. Pull the handle(把手) and immediately the door is open. But if you happen to do that at the wrong time, you may create an obstacle(阻碍) for a passing cyclist without knowing it. Then the cyclist will be sent falling off the bike, and the car door is likely to be damaged by the fast-moving bicycle.
The car door design and long-time habits have made the process instinctual but clearly the solution is for the person getting out of the vehicle to check for traffic. Luckily, there's a simple way to solve the problem: the Dutch reach. In other words, instead of using your left hand, reach for the door latch(门锁) with your right hand. This will force you to turn your body and look into your side view mirror to see whether any car or bike is coming.
'It's just what Dutch people do,' said Fred Wegman, the former managing director of the National Institute for Road Safety Research in the Netherlands. 'All the Dutch are taught it. It's part of regular driver education.'
The technique dates back about 50 or 60 years, and it was very popular between the 1960s and the 1980s. But it didn't really become known as the Dutch reach until American physician named Michael Charney started the Dutch Reach Project in 2016 in an effort to popularize the practice in the United States. According to The Times, he was motivated by the death of a 27-year-old who rode into an open car door and died just five blocks from his home in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Charney's efforts may be paying off. Both Massachusetts and Illinois now include the Dutch reach in their drivers’ manuals(手册).
【1】What is the first paragraph intended to show?

B.By forcing the person to check for approaching traffic.
C.By reminding the person of the traffic lights frequently.
D.By helping the person see the side view mirror more clearly.
【4】What made Charney introduce the Dutch reach into America?
A.Its popularity among Dutch people.
B.Its appearance in drivers’ manuals.
C.A project started in the year 2016.
D.The death caused by a traffic accident.
28、In south China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autochthonous Region, an area renowned for(因……而闻名) its history of musical folklore(民俗), local residents(民众) have found a unique way to spread knowledge regarding(关于) AIDS prevention.
“We asked eight local singers to write and record songs about the disease. We think this is an effective way for local people to acquire AIDS knowledge,” said 55-year-old Huang Zhanghui, a resident of the village of Shantun. He said that the songs are played through loudspeakers in his village every evening.
The songwriting campaign(活动) has been effective because folk songs are a traditional art form in the region, making them more readily understandable and acceptable for local residents, Huang said.
Guangxi has been one of the hardest-hit areas in China in terms of the number of AIDS infections discovered there, ranking only after central China’s Henan Province.
Bama County, which administers(管理) Shantun, is known for the longevity of its residents. Nearly 2,500 of its residents are more than 80 years old, and another 81 have celebrated their 100th birthdays.

Huang was selected to be the head of the village’s AIDS prevention office just two months ago. In addition to the creation of folk songs, the office spreads AIDS prevention knowledge through text messages and publicly screened films.
“We have been making progress with our anti-AIDS campaign. Nearly all of our villagers know how AIDS is transmitted(传播) and how to prevent it,” he said.
Lu Meirong, 33, joined a local women’s anti-AIDS group in June.
“I used to flush(脸红) at the simple mention of sexual(性感) topics, ” she said. However, she says that she is now comfortably reminding her husband and other relatives to stay away from sex workers.
Wei Kaizhong, head of the health bureau(局) of the city of Hechi, believes that the mode(方式/风格) of peer educations on HIV/ AIDS prevention is necessary among villagers.

32、阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。
Are you shy? If you are, you are not alone. In fact, close to 50 percent of people are shy. Almost 80 percent of people feel shy at some point in their lives. These days, shyness is becoming more and more common. Now scientists are trying to understand shyness. They have some interesting ideas about why people are shy.
Is it possible to be born shy? Many scientists say yes. They say 15 to 20 percent of babies behave shyly. These babies are a little quieter and more watchful than other babies. Interestingly, these shy babies usually have shy parents. As a result, scientists think that some shyness is genetic.
Family size might cause people to be shy as well. Scientists at Harvard University studied shy children.
They found that 66 percent of them had older brothers and sisters. As a result, they became shy. At the same time, children with no brothers and sisters may be shy as well. Growing up alone, they often play by them- selves. They are not able to learn the same social skills as children from big families.
You may also be shy because of where you were born. When scientists studied shyness in different countries. They found surprising differences. In Japan, most people said they were shy. But in Israel, only one of three people said so. What explains the difference? One scientist says the Japanese and Israelis have different opinions of failure. In Japan, when people do not succeed, they feel bad about themselves. They blame (责备) themselves for their failure. In Israel, the opposite is true. Israelis often blame failure on outside reasons, such as family, teachers, friends, or bad luck. In Israel, freedom of opinion and risk taking are strongly supported. This may be why Israelis worry less about failure and are less shy.
For shy people, it can be difficult to make friends, speak in class, and even get a good job. But scientists say you can get over your shyness. They suggest trying new things and practicing conversation. And don’t forget — if you are shy, you are not the only one.
