二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、   “Children who eat three or more hamburgers a week are more likely to suffer from asthma (哮喘),” researchers say. However, they say that the risk may not be caused by the meat-rich diet itself, but by a lack of fresh fruit and vegetables.

The study looked into 50,000 children from 20 countries. Parents were asked about their children’s eating habits and whether they had ever suffered from asthma. The effects of their diet seemed to be different depending on where they lived. Fruit and vegetables are more helpful in less rich parts of the world, while eating lots of fish was more helpful in richer countries. Eating at least three hamburgers a week was linked to a greater risk of asthma, but only in wealthier countries.

Dr. Gabriele Nagel said different things may cause asthma in different parts of the world. “This gives us more understanding of how asthma affects different people, and its effects in developing as well as developed countries,” she said.

High levels of unhealthy fat in hamburgers could increase the risk of asthma. However, the researchers said children who ate several hamburgers a week might have other unhealthy lifestyle habits as well.

Researchers said the study helped us understand how asthma and diets are connected. “Previous (先前的) studies have shown that a diet rich in fruit and vegetables can help to reduce a child’s risk of developing asthma symptoms (症状),” Dr. Elaine Vickers said. “Our advice to parents is to make sure that children have a healthy diet and also get plenty of exercise.”

1What can we know about asthma from paragraph 1?

A.The danger of it is common among children. B.Children who eat hamburgers suffer from it.

C.Lack of fruit and vegetables may cause it. D.The meat-rich diets can make it much worse.

2What did parents do in the study?

A.They provided information about children’s eating habits.

B.They helped look into children from different countries.

C.They compared the effects of children’s diets right away.

D.They changed their children’s eating habits on purpose.

3What do the researchers say about the study?

A.It shows fruit and vegetables stop children from developing asthma.

B.It is based on previous studies but the results are quite different.

C.It is helpful for them to know the relation between asthma and diets.

D.It offers many suggestions to parents and children on a healthy diet.

4What is the best title for the text?

A.The Risk of Asthma Is High in Wealthier Countries

B.Unhealthy Eating Habits May Lead to Asthma

C.Eating Hamburgers Increases the Risk of Asthma

D.Hamburgers Are Really Bad for People’s Health

  • 27、   A young mother went into a small bedroom. Her baby was sleeping there. There was a cat near the baby. The mother took the cat away immediately, because the cat often lay on the baby. Then the baby couldn't breathe and it died by magic. In many countries, people are afraid of black cats because they bring bad luck. Napoleon didn't like black cats. He saw a black cat before the battle of Waterloo. He lost the battle and the British won. Therefore,on the Continent, the black cat is unlucky;in Britain it is lucky. In general, animals are lucky and birds are unlucky. In the British army, some have a goat for luck, and some have an Irish wolfhound(猎狼犬).When President of America Eisenhower died, there was a horse in the funeral(葬礼)procession. This was for luck.Several years ago in Britain,Prince Charles went fox-hunting.When they caught the first fox, they killed it. Then they put some of the blood on Prince Charles. They did the same thing two years later, when Princess Anne went foxhunting for the first time. A lot of people don't like foxhunting, and they were very angry when this happened. It is called“being blooded”;and fox-hunters think that is very necessary. It brings good luck to the new foxhunter, when the blood of the first fox is put on him or her. In the country,it is very lucky when you see the first lamb in spring while birds are usually unlucky, but eagles are different. They are lucky, and the Romans have the eagle as their symbol. Also gulls are lucky. Sailors are very happy when gulls follow their ships.

C.the war broke out on the Continent D.the British were too strong

2Some of the blood of the fox was put on Charles and Anne because________.

A.they are prince and princess of Britain B.they wanted to hunt more foxes

C.a lot of people liked fox-hunting D.it could bring good luck to them

3According to the passage, which of the following is NOT true?

A.In Britain,it is very lucky when you see the first lamb in spring

B.The Romans made the eagle their symbol.

    C.In Britain,black cats are lucky

D..In France, people have goats for luck.

4What's the main idea of this passage?

A.People think an Irish wolfhound is lucky while a goat is unlucky.

B.People in different countries take different animals as their lucky ones.

    C.How the baby died.

    D.Gulls are lucky.

  • 28、   A few days before Christmas, the crowded shopping downtown was starting to annoy us. Most of us were loaded down with packages, and it looked like many of us were beginning to wonder if all those countless friends and relatives actually deserved so many gifts. This was not the Christmas spirit I’d been raised with.

When I finally got on a jammed streetcar, the idea of standing there packed like a sardine the whole way home was almost more than I could take. Suddenly I saw something out of the corner of my eye. A small, dark-skinned boy pulled a woman’s sleeve and asked, “Would you like a seat?” He quietly led her to the closest free seat he could find. Then he set out to find another tired person. As soon as each rare new seat became unoccupied, he would quickly move through the crowd in search of another burdened woman.

When I finally felt the pull at my own sleeve, I was absolutely struck by the beauty in this little boy’s eyes. He took my hand, saying, “Come with me, ma’am.” As I happily settled down, the little angel of love immediately turned to help his next subject.

The people on the streetcar, as usual, had been deliberately avoiding each other’s eyes, but now they began to exchange shy glances and smiles. That little boy had obviously changed something—we all relaxed into a feeling of warmth and actually enjoyed the trip.

I didn’t notice when the child got off. When I reached my stop I practically floated of that streetcar, admiring the sparkling Christmas lights on my street in a fresh, new way. Or maybe I was seeing them in an old way, with the same wonder I felt when I was five or six. Anyway, it is the little child that shall lead the ways for me.

1What can we infer from the underlined part in Paragraph 1?

A.The gifts were too heavy to carry home.

B.Friends and relatives always deserve gifts.

C.People wondered where to buy Christmas gifts.

D.The author was fed up with buying Christmas gifts.

2How did the author feel when she got on the streetcar?

    A.Uncomfortable. B.Warm.

    C.Astonished. D.Excited.

3Why did the author see the boy as the little angel of love?

A.Because he was dark-skinned. B.Because he occupied free seats.

C.Because he helped tired persons. D.Because he took her hand gently.

4What changes did the boy bring to the people on the streetcar?

A.They got to know one another.

B.They admired the boy when he got off.

C.They became more friendly to each other.

D.They changed the lights on the old streets.

  • 29、A New Museum of Ice Cream

The hottest museum in New York has got pop art, its own subway and a line out the door and around the block. It might not really be a museum at all.

The Museum of Ice Cream has built its first location in 2016 in Manhattan. At that time, so many people headed there that its tickets sold out within five days. And then, it was followed by Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Miami. Now, it founds a permanent (永久的) home in New York City’s SoHo neighborhood.

The newest Museum of Ice Cream is a dream place for people. It provides many kinds of delicious ice creams. But only this can’t explain its success.
