26、 Researcher Ramon Llopis of the University of Valencia is a member of the international group behind Football Research in an Enlarged Europe (FREE), the aim of which is to develop a better understanding of football as a social and cultural phenomenon in Europe. The starting point is the “strong belief that football has important things to say about Europe and its citizens”.
Llopis tells us that the research points to football as “an important presence in the daily lives of many Europeans. Even people who are not particularly interested in the sport cannot avoid the discussions it creates, regardless of age, class and region.” He adds that “football is more than an activity which is done for enjoyment. It increases a sense of collective identity (集体认同).”
Football is a topic of exchange and conversation between Europeans of different ages and social classes. Based on the surveys carried out in the early stages of the project, 63.3%of people who call themselves football fans have chatted about football with someone from another European country in the past twelve months, 70%of football fans watch matches and summaries from leagues (联赛) outside of their country of origin, and 53.4% habitually follow the results and news from other European leagues on the Internet and social media.
So, rather than consider professional football as an economic activity or a healthy activity for both players and fans, public authorities should be aware of its huge socio-cultural impact. They should also pay attention to the increasing bad feeling surrounding football as a result of its commercialization (商业化), since it is causing many to turn away from the game.

27、Youth is a stressful time from friends to school to families, and stressful situations become common. The body can respond (反应) with faster breathing, a fast beating heart, tense (绷紧的) muscles and drop of sweat. And teens who breathe polluted air appear to respond most strongly to stress, a new study shows.
Jonas Miller, a psychologist working at Stanford University ,studied whether or how air pollution might affect the body’s response to stress. Miller's team invited 144 teens to participate in a stressful test. Most of the kids lived in or near San Francisco, which has the worst air quality.
Before the test, the researchers used sensors(感测器) to record heart rates and sweat levels for five minutes as the kids rested. Then as the test began, a researcher read aloud the beginning of a story and the kids had five minutes to make up an exciting ending to the story. They would have to memorize their ending and present it aloud to a judge. After finishing this task, the kids were asked to do math problems, which obviously was a harder task. If he or she made a mistake, the judge let the student start over. The whole time, sensors recorded heart rates and sweat levels.
Miller found all the students had similar heart rates and sweat levels at rest. But as the test got difficult, differences began to appear. Kids from places with more air pollution responded more strongly to stress and their heartbeats became irregular. They sweated more than teens who lived in cleaner places.
"The teens' bodies were preparing to deal with possible challenges in the environment and such bodily responses to stress were linked to negative feelings", Miller concludes. Over time, he says, "these responses can contribute to both physical and mental health problems."
This study has proved the negative health effects of air pollution among teenagers. Therefore, teenagers should try to avoid their exposure (暴露) to air pollution They should consider limiting their time outside during rush hour, especially on days when air pollution is particularly strong.
【1】What happened to teens in stressful situations?
A.Their bodies react strongly.
B.Their muscles cause pain.

D.The kids gradually felt more stress in the process.
【3】From the study we can infer that tens should ____.

28、 Vegetarianism is growing in popularity in a lot of countries. And now, South Africa is one of them. Today, more and more South Africans are experimenting with the vegetarian (素食者) way of life by cutting meat out of their diet.
Some others are exploring veganism. Vegans (纯素者) are similar to vegetarians but they avoid all animal based products, including mike and eggs. Some vegans even do not eat honey. There is no official count of how many vegans there are in South Africa. But the interest has led to the birth of vegetarian and vegan restaurants in Johannesburg, the nation's economic center. And this year, Africa's first big vegan and plant-based festival was held in Cape Town. The Vegan & Plant Powered Show took place at the end of May.
But veganism can be a lonely road for many South Africans. The country is Africa's top consumer of meat from cows, pigs and sheep, based on information from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. Many South Africans express shock at the thought of giving up meat, which is central to celebrations and spirituality.
This is an issue for many African vegans, including Anesu Mbizvo. “In African traditional culture, a big part of a family's worth is their livestock (家畜), which decide the wealth of a family. And so when an African kills an animal at a gathering, it's thought that he would give away his wealth.” But she adds, “Offering home grown vegetables would not be considered to be valuable. I think that thought mainly prevents some people of African cultures from being vegans.”
Some South Africans are finding their path somewhere in the middle, Thirty-one-year-old Thandiwe Ngubeni is a communications specialist. She still eats meat but less and less of it as time goes by. “I feel more energetic when I eat a vegan meal. It actually gives me more energy.”
【1】What can we learn about vegans?
A.They can drink milk. B.They eat some animal meat.
C.They enjoy opening vegan restaurants. D.They refuse any product based on animals.
【2】What mainly stops some Africans being vegans according to Anesu Mbizvo?
A.Too many animals in the wild. B.Traditional views of livestock.
C.The influence from other countries. D.Not enough vegetables in the restaurant.
【3】What do we know about Thandiwe Ngubeni?
A.She is a vegan. B.She is an animal specialist.
C.She expects to eat more meat. D.She eats less and less meat.
【4】What can be the best title for the text?
A.Vegans'Behaviors Are Too Extreme. B.Vegetarians Are Not Popular Any Longer.

29、In Singapore, buses have been given the green light to find new ways to reduce emissions (排放) and improve the air quality of their services.
Last month, GWS Living Art, a company specializing in urban green structures installed (安装) green roofs on 10 public buses. While a bus might not seem like the typical location for a green roof, the installation could provide environmental and economic benefits. According to research by Michigan State University, green roofs are great at reducing polluting emissions, providing spaces for nature and cooling cities through the water that evaporates (蒸发) from their leaves and by shading surfaces that would otherwise absorb heat.
“While the impact of green plants on buildings has been well documented, much less is known about the effects of them on moving vehicles,” said Tan Chun Liang, a research fellow at National University of Singapore who advises the “Garden on the Move” bus campaign. This bus campaign is part of a three-month study to test whether green plants can help lower the temperature inside the buses and reduce the amount of fuel needed to power the air-conditioning. Liang hopes the research will provide a possible solution for cities to fight against global warming and the Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect -- when a city experiences much warmer temperatures than nearby rural areas, due to the heat produced and absorbed by industry, traffic and building materials.
To make Singapore a “Garden City,” the government has joint this bus campaign with other green projects such as the Green Mark Scheme which aims for 80% of building to be green by 2030 and Gardens by the Bay, an eco-friendly garden featuring solar-powered “supertrees” and over 1.5 million plants.
【1】Why were green roofs installed on 10 public buses in Singapore?
A.To provide more space for plants to live in.
B.To increase the diversity of species in Singapore.
C.To attract more people to use public transportation.
D.To test green plants’ environmental and economic benefits.
【2】According to the text, why can green plants lower the temperature in cities?
