26、How to Keep a Relationship Healthy and Strong
Are you new to experiencing relationships? Well, let me give you advice on having a healthy and possibly long-term relationship.
Be an honest person with them. 【1】 Don’t be afraid to say things that isn’t very flattering about yourself. Getting them to trust you is the most important element in any relationship. If there’s no trust, there’s nothing there. So please be honest and they’ll learn to open up to you.
Make sure you give them respect. Now respect isn’t just simply treating her or him nicely. There’s a lot more to it. You have to learn to adjust to their liking. 【2】 Don’t just think about yourself, think about what your partner needs out of it as well.
【3】 Always be willing to help them and give them honesty and positivity at the same time. Make them feel you are someone they can really count on and build a future with. This is an important step in a relationship. Your partner has to be able to count on you when needed.
Make sure you have a good sense of humor with them. Laughter is the key to happiness. Laugh a lot with them, joke with them. Laughter may seem silly, but it’s the secret to a lot in life. It will keep the sparks alive. 【4】
Make sure the communication is good. This goes along with trust, but always communicate how you feel, even if it’s something that upsets you. Instead of screaming, talk to them. 【5】 It’s important to communicate this to them, not keep it bottled up.
A.Show them your personality.
B.Do not hide things from them, do not lie.
C.Make sure you are encouraging to your partner.
D.Laughter keeps the relationship strong and lasting.
E.You can neglect them and make them feel unwanted.
F.Basically, learn to study your partners’ moods, wants and needs.
G.If they did something that made you upset, tell them about it in a respectful manner.
27、 This year I’m buying presents for 16 children, as well as my own daughter, Mia-Grace, who will be two on Christmas Day. My tree will be beautifully decorated, I’m bringing the turkey to the family Christmas lunch and having an open house activity on Boxing Day. And the whole thing’s only going to cost me £150.
I’ve been careful with money since I was a teenager, for I came from a poor family with many children. I had to drop out of high school to earn money to support myself. I remember well that I went a bit mad back then when I got my first credit card and my parents had to leave me from home and cared little for me from then, which taught me a real lesson.
We’re very careful now and we don’t overspend or owe anything on credit cards. I work for an electrician and my husband Neil, 33, works in the construction business. We’re concerned about our jobs because our companies are quiet at the moment.
We’ve also been hit by rising prices, particularly food, petrol, gas and electricity. Everyone I know is worried. One of my friends’ husbands has just gone self-employed and if he doesn’t work, they have no money coming in.
Christmas has been playing on my mind for the past three or four months. We decided on a budget of £150 because that’s just under my weekly wage and it meant we could afford Christmas while using Neil’s salary for our essential bills.
We quickly realized that we buy some things every year just for the sake of it. Even though we have lots of decorations already, we usually buy something new for the tree but this Christmas we’re not going to. We’ve already got our tree – a big man-made one which I bought half-price in the January sales. It will last us for years.
After all, no one can escape from this financial crisis which is spreading throughout the globe.

【3】The second and third paragraphs mainly tell us ______ .
A. why the author has been very careful with money
B. how she finished her education of high school
C. where she earned her first money in her teens
D. when she left home and got married to her husband
【4】We can conclude from this passage ______.
A. the author often quarrels with her husband about their little earnings
B. nobody but the author was worried about the rising prices
C. the author has never been worried about losing jobs
D. the author and those around her are suffering from the financial crisis

29、 For centuries, people have moved to and lived in cities. These urban centres are places to find work, friends and fun. It's no surprise that they continue to grow as more and more people flood in hoping to make the most of the chances they offer but adding to the congestion and pollution that already exist.
According to a report by the United Nations, 54 percent of the world's population lives in urban areas and it predicts that by 2050,this figure will have increased to around 70 percent. But as more and more people move from the countryside to the city to get better chances, they can end up with nowhere to live.
This is true in places such as Rio de Janeiro, where the people from the countryside can't rent or buy a home, and they end up building their own communities and houses on unoccupied land. These are called shanty towns— poor communities where the houses are built out of cheap materials—and often don't have any electricity or water supply.
These are, of course, not the future cities we want to see. Some serious urban planning is needed to make our cities of the future good, safe and modern places to live in. This involves improving the housing conditions, the chances for education and employment and so on.
Something urban planners are looking at now is the creation of“smart cities”. According to John Rossant, founder and chairman of the non-profit organisation New Cities Foundation, technology is the way forward. He thinks that it's generally accepted that “cloud computing, ubiquitous Internet, robust 5G networks etc, will change our cities”. He says technology is really “a game changer” in urbanization (城市化). It would collect large amounts of data about how a city is working and may improve how a city functions.
【1】Why will a larger population be living in a city by 2050?
A.Because the government encourages the development of cities.
B.Because more people will have more children.
C.Because the countryside will disappear.
D.Because more people will move into the city to get more good opportunities
【2】What can we know about shanty towns?
A.They have good quality housing built for poor people.
B.They are filled with people living under poverty.
C.They are built by the government.
D.They are developed and modern.
【3】What name is given to a city that uses technology to help it function properly?
A.Traditional cities. B.Future cities.
C.Smart cities. D.Developing cities
