26、 During Amsterdam’s chaotic rush hour, nine-year-old Lotta Crok cycles to a very busy crossing. “Look,” she says. “There’s traffic coming from everywhere. Four buses from four different directions. For a child on a bike that’s really confusing!”
Lotta is the first junior cycle mayor in the world and her working area is the Dutch capital. You would think this challenge would be superfluous in a city known as the bicycle capital of the world. The number of bicycles in Amsterdam is estimated at 810,000 more than the city’s 750,000 inhabitants and 63% of the population cycle daily.
But children who cycle in Amsterdam face challenges. Lotta says: “The three biggest problems for us are cars, cycling tourists and scooters(小型摩托). The cars take up too much space, the tourists are always swinging side to side and stop when you least expect it, and the scooters simply run you over.”
Lotta became junior cycle mayor in June last year when she won a contest in which school children were asked to come up with plans to make cycling safer and more fun. Her idea was to add children’s bikes to the popular bike share programme.
Since Lotta was appointed junior cycle mayor, she has been busy giving interviews, opening cycling contests in the city and being a jury member during the Amsterdam Light Parade, an event in which Amsterdammers decorate their bikes with lights.
She is now planning a meeting with the city’s mayor to discuss ideas that children have come up with: “One of our proposals is a bicycle park where children can learn how to cycle. Right now, most of us learn it in the street, which can be quite busy. Another idea is to create an app for tourists to teach them the rules of cycling, because most of them really don’t know.”
Following the success of the Amsterdam plan, cycle mayors around the world are now planning to appoint junior colleagues. “They see it works really well,” Boerma, the senior major, says. “I talk to the parents. Lotta talks to the children. And if you look at the city through the eyes of a child, you will also make it accessible for others. A city that’s good for an eight-year-old is also good for an 88-year-old.”
【1】Why is a junior cycle mayor appointed in Amsterdam?

27、 Bangkok has become the world's top tourist destination, with 15.98 million visitors projected to visit Thailand's capital city this year, according to the third annual Global Destination Cities Index released by MasterCard on Monday. Based on data MasterCard collected from governments, central banks, related public agencies and airlines to far this year, the projection for the entire year says Bangkok is surpassing London, the previous holder of the top place, by a very narrow margin.
Monday's report marked the first time an Asian city has been projected to be the top-ranked tourist destination. London came in second, with 15.96 million visitors expected in 2013, and Paris, third, with 13.92 million visitors. MasterCard looked at 132 cities.
Other Asian cities that made it to the Top-20 Global Destination Cities in 2013 include Singapore at number four, with 11.75 million visitors; Kuala Lumpur at number eight, with 9.2 million visitors; Hong Kong at number nine, with 8.72 million visitors; Seoul at number 11, with 8.19 million visitors; Shanghai at number 14, with 6.5 million visitors. Tokyo at number 16, with 5.8 million visitors, and Taipei, with 5.19 million visitors.
The study found that Bangkok is experiencing a large increase in its number of tourists in 2013, up 9.8% from 2009. That compares to New York's increase at 5.0% and London's at 3.8%. Paris, meanwhile, saw a small dip in its number of tourists (negative 0.7%).
Caroline Liedo, who was visiting Bangkok from France, said Thailand has many offerings. "We like culture and the people are so nice. We also love shopping here," Ms. Liedo said. MasterCard Worldwide's global economic adviser Yuwa Hedrick-Wong cited(引用)overall value for money spent for why Bangkok is attractive. That is true for Thailand overall as well.

28、 It has been two months since I moved to China, but its digital advancement hasn't stopped impressing me ever since. One of the major things that I cannot imagine living without anymore is mobile payment. There are two major mobile payment apps here, Alipay and WeChat Pay. Both have similar payment features, though WeChat has more like a social media. That's why I will focus on this "super app".
So far, I've been shocked by how efficient life can be with WeChat. It is present in every aspect of people's daily life, from paying water and electricity bills, meals, cinema tickets to calling a taxi, following news, and chatting with friends. Most merchants have adopted it, from tiny local street food stalls to high-end(高端的)stores. A cashier may be surprised if you do not pay with WeChat or Alipay at the grocers or in restaurants. And it seems like the entire payment industry has encouraged this shift to mobile payment, equipping payment terminals with QR code scanners to simplify payments. Mobile payments are so common here that I realize that I can perfectly survive if I forget my wallet at home one day because most days I just don't take it out of my bag!
As mentioned earlier, WeChat is also a major social media platform with about one billion daily users, which is more than the entire population of European Union. So I have to say Chinese technological and digital development is a real miracle.

A.Doubtful. B.Favorable. C.Opposed. D.Uncaring.
【4】What is the main idea of the text?
A.Two major mobile payment apps.
B.The development of mobile payment.
C.The different opinions about mobile payment.
D.The miracle of Chinese mobile payment.

31、Directions: Complete the following passage by using the words in the box. Each word can only be used once. Note that there is one word more than you need.
Scientists have proved what students have long suspected: Maths equations can actually trigger physical pain.
Regions of the brain linked with the experience of physical 【1】 were activated in those fearful of maths when they were presented with a tough equation, researchers have found. The higher a person’s anxiety of a maths task, the more it 【2】 activity in regions of their brain associated with visceral (内脏的) threat detection, and often the experience of pain itself.
However, the researchers say their study examines the pain response associated with anticipating an anxiety-provoking event, rather than the pain associated with a 【3】 event itself. A maths task itself is not painful but 【4】 the thought of it is highly unpleasant to certain people.
“Maths can be difficult, and for those with high levels of mathematics-anxiety (HMAs), math is associated with tension, apprehension (忧虑) and fear,” the researchers said in their paper titled. When Math Hurts. “【5】, this relation was not seen during math performance, 【6】 that it is not that math itself hurts, rather, the anticipation of math is painful. These results may also provide a potential neural mechanism to explain why (people with) HMAs tend to 【7】 math and math-related situations, which in turn can bias (使有偏见) (those with) high levels of mathematics-anxiety away from taking math classes or even entire math-related 【8】 paths. We provide the first neural 【9】 indicating the nature of the subjective experience of math-anxiety.
Other forms of psychological stress, such as social 【10】 or a traumatic break-up, can also elicit feeling of physical pain.”
