二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、   When you visit America, you will see the word Motel on signs and notice boards. It is made up of “motor” and “hotel” and it is really a hotel for people who arrive by car (however, you don’t need a car to stay at one). You have to pay when you arrive for your room, which usually has a bath. Meals are not provided, but there will certainly be a cafeteria (自助餐馆). Americans eat a lot of salads and sandwiches. Along the main roads there are a lot of motels. Each tries to offer more than next. Some provide television in every bedroom; others have swimming pools; and so on. Motels are especially useful when you are in the country, far from a town or city. You will also find them in the big National Parks.

In these great National Parks, you may meet guests you don’t expect to see. An American friend told me a little story. In the middle of a moonless night she heard strange noises outside her motel window in the Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. Thinking it might be a thief, she jumped out of bed, opened the door and crept towards a dark shadow. As she got close, she saw the thief. She was dreadfully frightened: it wasn’t a human thief — it was a big black bear. The bear was turning over some empty tins with its paw, looking for tasty bits of food. My friend decided to leave that particular thief alone!

There are also, of course, places called “rooming houses”, where they receive lodgers (房客). You will see such signs as Tourists or Rooms Rent, and you could try one of these. A word of warning — looking for a room in New York during the tourist season is like looking for gold on the moon!

1Which of the following is TRUE about motels?

A.The word “motel” is formed by two words.

B.They are free for people who arrive by car.

C.You can only find motels in the big National Parks.

D.If you want to stay at a motel, you must have a car.

2Which of the following is NOT provided by motels?

    A.Baths. B.Meals

    C.TV. D.Swimming pools..

3The second paragraph mainly tells us ___.

A.an interesting story B.the experience of the author

C.we may meet animals in the National Parks D.bears usually look for food at night

4From the last paragraph, we can learn that in New York during the tourist season ______.

    A.tourists can find gold there

B.it is difficult to find a room there

C.tourists can have a sweet dream there

D.there is warning for tourists to New York

  • 28、Get Involved! Make a Donation!

    So what is rewilding?

Imagine our natural homes growing instead of shrinking. Imagine species (物种)diversifying instead of declining. That's rewilding. Rewilding is ecological restoration. Rewilding offers hope for wildlife, humans and the planet.

Why is rewilding important and necessary?

●Our natural ecology is broken. The places where you would expect wildlife to exist have been reduced to wet deserts. The seabed has been destroyed and there have been no livingcreatures any more.

●Our wildlife is disappearing. Many wonderful species have declined over the past century. We've lost more of our large animals than any European country.

●We need keystone species. These vital species, including top predators (食肉动物), drive ecological processes. Their loss has worsened our living systems.

●Nature looks after us. Good natural ecology can provide us with clean air and water, prevent flooding and store carbon. Rewilding can leave the world in a better state than it is today.

    What are challenges?

As a long-term project, our “rewilding britain” has its challenges. Many people are notinterested, because we have got used to the lack of native forests. Many farmers oppose the idea. They thought it a crazy idea to bring back predators because they would start killing farmanimals. It takes time to educate them. Above all, we need money! So we need your help!

    Make a donation.

Help us bring back living systems and restore wild nature!

With your help we can. . .

●Open up new chances for rewilding and push for change.

●Develop tools to educate, influence and spread the word.

    Thanks for your support.

1Which of the following is the result of rewilding?

    A. Species become various. B. A lot of animals disappear.

    C. Environments are destroyed. D. Natural disasters happen regularly.

2According to the passage, one of the challenges at present is_______.

    A. people's doubts B. a lack of volunteers

    C. a shortage of time D. farmers' disagreement

3What is the main purpose of the passage?

    A. To introduce a new project.

    B. To call on people to give money.

    C. To warn people of the natural ecology.

    D. To convince people to change their mind.

  • 29、   Audiences who are present at music festivals often do not think about the work behind the scenes. There are many factors (因素)when organizers want to create a successful festival of any type. They have to make efforts to organize the music festival. They must spend a large amount of money bringing in popular artists, and the event must have excellent advertising. Once a site is chosen, it is often a space that is rented. Organizers must also take parking and crowd control into consideration when large audiences are expected to attend.

As a whole, a successful music festival combines all the necessary parts into a series of events that attract the audience. If any one part of the festival brings in a large number of complaints, it is not successful and the number of audiences will be down both that year and the following year. This is one of the reasons why organizers work hard to make sure every part of a festival functions as flawlessly as possible. They want people to take away great memories so they will attend the festival the next year and continue to do so. Organizers have long recognized this fact and take the time to find out what their audiences want. They recognize changes in audience moods and values. This allows their festivals to continue growing by satisfying their specific audiences.

The growth of many music festivals has caused organizers to seek out more modern musicians. Organizers don’t choose musicians that only perform for small crowds. Musicians, such as electric violinists or saxophone players, are more able to handle larger crowds who require amplified (放大的)music. Their ability to deal with technical aspects of greater sound production makes them popular with organizers. These musicians are also popular with large crowds who appreciate their ability to produce beautiful sound in the musical genre (流派)of the festival.

1What does a successful music festival need?

A.Control of the number of audiences.

    B.Money to buy a site.

    C.Experienced audiences.

D.A great deal of organizers’ effort.

2What does the underlined word "flawlessly" in paragraph 2 probably mean?

    A.Perfect. B.Crazy. C.Quick. D.Limitless.

3What kind of musicians will be popular with the organizer of a music festival?

A.Those who are members of a band.

B.Those who like performing for small crowds.

C.Those who can play the latest popular music.

D.Those who have the ability to handle larger crowds.

4What can be the best title for the text?

    A.The Origin of Music Festivals

    B.The History of Music Festivals

C.The Organizers of Successful Music Festivals

D.The Factors in Successful Music Festivals
