二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、   Ever since it was created 30 years ago, The Simpsons, the longest running prime-time(黄金时段) TV show in the country, has become part of US life. So when TV critics Alan Sepinwall and Matt Zoller Seitz ranked the 100 greatest comedies and dramas broadcast in the US ,it came as no surprise that The Simpsons was their top choice.

This was the show that changed the very concept of cartoons in Western society. Before it appeared, cartoons were considered a way to learn and have fun, not serious adult entertainment. The Simpsons changed this. The genius of the show is that it has something to offer both adults and children.

It’s a hugely entertaining program that’s also full of satire(讽刺的) and clever humor.A remark by Chitra Ramaswamy in The Guardian gave a sense of the esteem(敬重) in which The Simpsons is held:“Nothing before or since has match its capacity to be at once so profoundly clever and so unbelievably stupid.”

The show’s creators make fun of the US government, social customs, and of course, the idea of family life. But unlike most classic US prime-time TV characters the Simpsons are a dys-functional(功能失调的) family.

Bart, the boy, is always in trouble---both at home and at school. That may be in part because of his paternal example. Homer Simpson, perhaps the most iconic(标志性的) character, is a beer-swilling, overweight slob(懒汉) who is normally found in front of the TV. And Marge, Homer’s wife and the mother of the family, spends most of her time cooking, cleaning or trying to fix the messes that Bart and Homer make.

The smartest member of the family is daughter Lisa, who does well in school but is no goody-goody(讨好卖乖的人)---Lisa never misses an opportunity to challenge authority. The youngest member of the family is baby Maggie, who will likely be as much of a handful as her brother and sister when she grows up.

But although the Simpsons are a problem family, viewers are always on their side. One of the reasons why the show has remained so popular all these years is that the characters are so lovely. Millions of us identify with them. They are a working class family struggling to make ends meet. They aren’t perfect, but then, who is? And after 30 years, this is still what strikes a chord (引起共鸣)with millions of viewers worldwide.

1According to the article , The Simpsons___________.

A.is suitable for both adults and kids.

B.reminds people of their sad children.

C.is a program designed only for fun.

D.is difficult to understand for many people.

B.Bart and Lisa are the troublemakers of the family.

C.They are an ordinary family with many problems.

D.The children regard Homer as their role model.

3According to the article, viewers like the Simpsons mainly because________.

A.they have the courage to challenge authority.

B.their lives and problems are similar to real people’s.

C.they teach viewers how to fix problems.

D.they are a happy and perfect family.

A.Reasons behind The Simpsons’ lasting popularity.

B.The most popular characters in The Simpsons.

  • 27、   A young mother went into a small bedroom. Her baby was sleeping there. There was a cat near the baby. The mother took the cat away immediately, because the cat often lay on the baby. Then the baby couldn't breathe and it died by magic. In many countries, people are afraid of black cats because they bring bad luck. Napoleon didn't like black cats. He saw a black cat before the battle of Waterloo. • 28、   Getting married can be one of the happiest moments in a person's life. Across the globe, weddings are very important events. Let's look at some interesting wedding customs from different countries.

For African Americans, it is a tradition for the married couple to jump over a broom covered with flowers. This represents the beginning of family life. It is interesting to note that African slaves who were brought to the USA started this tradition. African-American couples were not allowed to have a legal marriage, so instead they had a ceremony (仪式) where the bride (新娘) and groom (新郎) jumped over a broom 'into marriage'. Today, some African-American weddings still include the old tradition of 'jumping the broom'.

Making jokes about the bride and groom is a wedding tradition in both France and Germany. In France, this includes making loud noises with pots; in Germany, wedding guests break dishes. Weddings in Germany often last three days. On Thursday, there is a simple ceremony at a government office noting the official marriage of the couple. Then the couple will have a dinner with family and close friends. On Friday there is a party. This is when guests break dishes to represent the start of a new life. Then on Saturday, there is a ceremony in a church, followed by another party when the bride and groom celebrate the wedding with friends and relatives again.

In Greece, couples tie a doll to their wedding car if they want to have a daughter, or a toy bear if they want to have a son.

The USA also has some interesting wedding customs. The bride usually carries flowers during the wedding ceremony. After the ceremony, the single women get together and the bride throws the flowers. The woman who catches the flowers is supposed to be the next person to get married.

In England, it is a tradition for little girls to throw flowers on the ground on the way to the wedding ceremony. The bride and groom walk on the flowers. This represents the hope that the couple will follow the path that leads to a happy life.

  • 29、   Childhood experiences influence a person in his/her adult life. Often, looking back can help a person go forward.1 Here are some examples of how unhappy childhood experiences will influence your adult life.

If you have strict parents, you may be more afraid to be punished. Children can learn results of their actions from a strict parent.2 This can make a person softer in life. But it can also work the other way ---- it can create a rebellious(叛逆的)character.

If you were always turned down by someone you cared about, you may become more silent. Being turned down by a parent can cause bad effects. .3 You probably won't make any requests to protect yourself. It can also create people who have no social skills and are ignored by others.

If you didn't get enough attention, you may be insecure. When you grow up, you may be not confident.4 Or, there may be a lasting comparison with brothers and sisters, partners, and other people.

5 You can try to make a list of any good effects the unhappy experiences brought, and then, try to think anything else you can make use of for your future. For example, if your empathy (共情能力)has been developed because of the unhappy childhood experiences, maybe a job that needs more human communication would be a good fit for you.

A.You may always think you're not good enough

B.You will require more love in your later relationships.

C.What's more, you should share your thoughts with others.

D.But when strictness goes too far, it can create a fear of being punished.

E.It can make you hide your feelings to avoid getting hurt in the long run.

F.So how to deal with the side effects of unhappy childhood experiences?

G.However, unhappy childhood experiences may cause bad effects on your adult life.

  • 31、Directions: Complete the following passage by using the words in the box. Each word can only be used once. Note that there is one word more than you need.

“Life of Pi” is narrated by an older Pi and takes place in the present as he tells his life story to a writer. Pi begins with how he got his name and how his family owned a zoo, but eventually leads into his family needing to leave India for financial 1. The heart of the story lies in Pi as a young man and the time he spent out at sea on a lifeboat with a tiger named Richard Parker, but getting to that point is quite an ordeal(苦难考验). Pi loses everything and everyone close to him in the blink of an eye and he doesn’t 2 on making what feels like an unbreakable bond with a Bengal tiger.

The 3 film offers a rather marvelous message about religion as Pi discusses the experimentation with several different religions as a young boy. Even though it seems kind of silly that a boy has 4 so many religions at one point in his life, it portrays a/an 5 message in a light that doesn’t seem too preachy(说教的). But the religious aspect is really only a backdrop for being on your own 6 to finding who you really are. Feeling so alone for so long and having Pi talk about not being alone and not getting to say goodbye to those he cared about most is one of those things that just hits you really hard.

While witnessing Pi attempt to tame Richard Parker is really 7, there are so many unbelievable sights to witness in “Life of Pi”. There’s the whale, the jellyfish, the flying fish, that 8 storm, and that seaweed island with all of the meerkats (a kind of monkey). “Life of Pi” never really lets up on being 9 breathtaking and amazing from beginning to end.

“Life of Pi” is pleasantly satisfying. With a heartfelt message, beautiful visuals, and stunning camera work. “Life of Pi” is truly a sight to behold and illustrates how 10 3D can be to a film that isn’t just a summer hit or blockbuster.
