24、 A jobless man applied(申请)for the position of “office boy” at Microsoft, The HR manager interviewed him and then watched him cleaning the floor as a test.
“You are employed,” he said. “Give me your e-mail address and I’ll send you the application form to fill in, as well as the date when you may start.”
The man replied, “But I don't have a computer or an e-mail.”

He started to plan his family's future, so he called an insurance broker (保险经纪人)to have a discussion. When the conversation was over, the broker asked him for his e-mail. The man replied again,“I don't have an e-mail.”

25、 Which is sillier: denying we ever went to the moon or trying to convince the true non-believers?
Once upon a time—July 20, 1969, to be exact—two men got out of their little spaceship and wandered around on the moon for a while. Ten more men walked on the moon over the next three and a half years.
Unfortunately, not quite. A fair number of Americans think that this whole business of moon landings really is fairy tale. They believe that the landings were a big hoax (骗局) staged in the Mojave Desert, to convince everyone that U.S. technology was the “best” in the whole wide world.
Which is the harder thing to do: Send men to the moon or make believe we did? The fact is that the physics behind sending people to the moon is simple. You can do it with computer whose entire memory capacities can now fit on chips the size of postage stamps and that cost about as much as, well, a postage stamp, I know you can because we did.
However, last fall NASA considered spending $15,000 on a public-relations campaign to convince the unimpressed that Americans had in fact gone to the moon. That idea was mostly a reaction to a Fox television program, first broadcast in February 2001, that claimed to expose the hoax. The show’s creator is a publicity hound (猎狗) who has lived up to the name in more ways than one by hounding Buzz Aldrin, the second man on the moon. Mr. X (as I will call him, thereby denying him the joyous sight of his name in prim) recently followed Buzz Aldrin around and called him “a thief, liar and coward” until the 72-year-old astronaut finally lost it and hit the 37-year-old Mr. X in the face.
Anyway, NASA’s publicity campaign began to slow down. The non-believers took the campaign as NASA’s effort to hide something while the believers said that $15,000 to convince people that the world was round—I mean, that we had gone to the moon—was simply a waste of money, (Actually, the $15,000 was supposed to pay for an article by James E. Oberg, an astronomy writer who, with Aldrin, has contributed to Scientific American.)
If NASA’s not paying Oberg, perhaps it could put the money to good use by hiring two big guys to drag Neil Armstrong out of the house. Armstrong is an extremely private man, but he is also the first man on the moon, So maybe he has a duty to be a bit more outspoken about the experience. Or NASA could just buy Aldrin a commemorate plaque (纪念匾) for his recent touch on the face of Mr. X.
【1】We can learn from Paragraphs 2 and 3 that some Americans believe __________.
A.moon landings were invented B.U.S. technology was the best

【2】According to the writer, which of the following is responsible for the story about the hoax?
A.NASA’s publicity campaign. B.The Fox television program.
C.Buzz Aldrin. D.James E. Oberg.
【3】The tone of the article is __________.
A.angry B.happy C.humorous D.matter-of-fact
26、 Meat can be tasty. It is often good for us and it has been part of our meals for hundreds of thousands of years. However, some organizations, such as the Soil Association, say meat should not be eaten every day, especially in schools. This is because farming animals for meat can be bad for the environment and lead to climate (气候)change. The Soil Association wants schools to have more plant-based meal choices that don’t have meat and that do not cause environmental problems. The Government already advises that schools have one no-meat day each week, but not all schools follow this advice. So what do you think? Should schools be made to have one completely no-meat day each week?
Yes - it’s important to protect the climate
Everyone needs to do their bit to help the planet, and eating less meat is a good start. Although meat can be healthy and is good for us in the right amounts, eating it every day means a lot of animals have to be farmed. This uses up valuable things such as water and land. The animals themselves add to climate change by producing a gas called methane. Besides, it’s not necessary to eat meat every day. There are many ways to get the nourishment we need to be healthy. We could eat foods like beans, nuts, potatoes and so on. What’s more, eating more plant-based foods will save schools’ money because they are cheaper than meat. This money could be used on books and school trips.
No-_____________
Students should be able to decide what they eat - it is a personal choice. Some students, for example, might eat a little bit of meat each day, but less overall. Besides, meat is full of healthy vitamins and nutrients needed for growth. If schools don’t serve meat, they might end up serving chips and junk food instead, which wouldn’t be healthier. It’s right to tell and educate young people about climate change and the results of the farming industry, but they should be encouraged to change their eating habits rather than being told that they have to. Making people change their habits doesn’t always mean people can change their minds.
【1】The example of the Soil Association taken by the writer is to show ________.
A.every school must have one no-meat day

A.it should be up to the students
B.schools shouldn’t have one no-meat day
C.it’s necessary to change students’ eating habits

【4】What does the writer mean by the underlined sentence in the last paragraph?
A.Changing people’s minds is really a difficult task.
B.It’s not polite to make people change their eating habits.
C.Habits changing cannot always lead to minds changing.
D.It’s more important to change eating habits than to change their minds.
27、There were three big fish in the lake. One of them, Demo, was wise; another one, Jimmy, was half-wise; Martin, the third one, was stupid.
Some fishermen came to the bank of the lake with their nets. The three fish saw them.
Demo decided at once to leave, to make the long and difficult trip to the ocean. He thought, “ I won’t discuss with these two about this. They love this place so much that they call it home and will stay on. How silly they are! They still haven’t realized we are in great danger now. Their ignorance will cost them their lives.”
Seeing the wise fish had left, Jimmy thought, “My guide has gone and now I’ve lost my chance to escape.” He felt sorry for it and then thought, “When can I do to save myself from these men and their nets? Perhaps I should pretend to be already dead, giving myself totally to the water.” So he did that. He went up and down with the water, helpless, within arm’s reach of the fishermen.
“ Look at this! The best and biggest is dead.” One of the men lifted him by the tail, and threw him up on the ground. He rolled over and over and moved secretly toward the water, and then, backed in.
The third fish was aimlessly jumping about, trying to escape with his speed and cleverness. The net, of course, finally closed around him, and as he lay in the hot frying-pan bed. He thought “If I get out of this, I’ll never live again in the limits of the lake. Next time, the ocean! I’ll make it my home.”
