  • 1、   There is a Chinese saying “千里送鹅毛,礼轻情意重”. The saying comes from a historic book called Lu Shi (《路史》). According to the story, a Tang Dynasty official in Yunnan wanted to show his respect (尊敬) to the emperor (皇帝). He sent a man named Mian Bogao to bring some gifts to the emperor. 1. One of the gifts was a beautiful swan, which was a very valuable gift at the time.

Mian took good care of the swan on his way to the emperor. One day, he passed by a lake and wanted to let the swan drink some water. 2. But as soon as he set the swan free, the swan flew away, leaving only some feathers on the ground. Mian was very worried, but he didn’t try to run away. 3. 他决定告诉皇帝发生了什么。He picked up a feather and kept going on his trip.

When Mian met the emperor, he told him what happened and said, 4. “This swan feather is light, but it carries my deep respect for you.” The emperor was happy with Mian’s honesty and sincerity (真诚). He forgave (原谅) Mian. 5. 人们现在用这个说法来表明好的礼物不一定要很贵。What matters is the sincerity it carries.

四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、FOR people who are interested in space, nothing is more exciting than the idea of living on other planets. That might be why the movie The Martian (《火星救援》) is so popular. It shows an astronaut struggling to live on Mars. But would it actually be possible to live on the Red Planet?

While the idea of living on Mars is great, the reality does not look as good. Mars does not have a friendly atmosphere for humans. There is very little oxygen there. And because of its distance from the sun, it is also very cold. The temperature on Mars can be -62 degrees on average. This is much too cold for humans.

However, scientists say it might be possible to live there even without a good atmosphere. Daytime on Mars is almost the same as Earth’s. It means there’s enough sunlight to grow plants inside safe buildings. However, they would have to grow in soil from Earth. Mars does not have a strong enough atmosphere to stop the radiation coming from space, which makes it dangerous to grow things in the soil.

The radiation is also bad for our health. If we want to live there healthily, we need to build our homes under the ground or within the rocks on the planet. This would protect humans from the radiation and also some heat.

When could we actually live on Mars? NASA is hoping to make some progress within the next 20 years.

【1】The film The Martian is mentioned in Paragraph 1 to _____.

    A. introduce the topic of living on Mars

    B. tell readers something about the film

    C. explain the development of the film-making business

    D. show people’s knowledge of Mars

【2】Which of the following about Mars is NOT true?

    A. Its atmosphere is not good for humans.

    B. It has very little oxygen.

    C. It’s colder than Earth.

    D. It’s closer to the sun than Earth is.

【3】It’s possible to grow plants on Mars because _____.

    A. there is enough sunlight

    B. the soil is good on Mars

    C. it has a good underground atmosphere

    D. its temperature changes very little

【4】What does Para. 4 mainly talk about?

    A. What problems the radiation causes.

    B. How to avoid bad conditions on Mars.

    C. How to build homes on Mars.

    D. How to protect Mars.

What do you think of the “new” hat I made for my sister? It used to be my mum’s sweater.

Nowadays, we’re more wasteful than ever-buying, using and throwing things away without thinking about the costs. We need to deal with the waste wisely-but how? One answer is to upcycle. You might make soil (土壤) from food waste for gardening. Do you know you can use the same way to deal with old clothing? You just need imagination!

Making new things out of old clothes is the best way to mix my talent and my interest. Do you upcycle? If so, what new things have you made? If not, why not give it a try?

    Reply

Terry Posted at 9:08 a.m. on 11th February

Why don’t you give your old clothes to people in need? I even give away the most expensive things I don’t wear anymore. So I can help the environment while giving something useful to people in need.

    Reply

Gina Posted at 9:28 a.m. on 11th February

Good point! I’m talking about only the oldest clothing in your room-the clothes that are too old to be worn by others. The same idea goes for food waste at restaurants and supermarkets. Before upcycling food, that can still be eaten, for example, using it to make soil.

    A.It is new and expensive.

B.It’s made of an old sweater.

C.It is made by Gina’s mother.

    D.It is a gift from Gina’s sister.

【2】What does Terry mean by the reply?

    B.He always buys expensive things.

C.There’re better ways to deal with old things.

D.Gina’s way is no good to the environment.

【3】Which of the actions can be called “upcycle”?

A.Throw waste food away to a dog.

B.Give away your used books to others.

C.Make shopping bags out of the old jeans.

D.Sell your old bags to people who like them.

    Process:
