How funny would it be to see memes(表情包) in our textbooks? Fourteen high school students have made it come true.
They wrote a set of creative textbooks that include five subjects: Chinese, English, maths, chemistry and physics. They share their notes and experiences to help you prepare for high school entrance exams. You can see funny memes almost everywhere in their text-books. The language they use is not too serious.
Each textbook has its own style, too. The English textbook introduces movies, TV series and so on. The chemistry textbook has wuxia characters. There is a boy named Shangguan Huaxue in the book. He meets a girl and they learn chemistry together. It has ancient poems and wuxia-style descriptions.
Yan Zuhuai, a 15-year-old top student at Chengdu No. 7 High School, is the textbooks’ editor-in-chief(主编). He got the idea to create the books in June. “Many underclassmen wanted me to share my notes with them. When I saw people sharing bikes, I thought I could share knowledge as well,” Yan said.
But when he put all of his notes together, he found them boring. Realizing that his classmates enjoy online novels and memes, he decided to add these things and invited 13 students to join him in creating them.
Their first drafts(草稿) came out in August. Students and teachers praised them. But Yan felt the books needed to be improved. In October, he and his team learned how to use the design software to improve the books. The final versions came out at the end of December in 2018.

Japan
High schools have canteens(餐厅), which serve everything from noodles to rice, but not burgers and chips. Other children bring food from home such as cold rice balls, meat or fish, pickles(泡菜) and vegetables.
Students take home a menu for the coming month including notes on nutrition value. Twice a year parents are invited to have a taste of the food. The class with the fewest leftovers(剩饭) at the end of the month receives a prize.
United States
A typical menu from an American school is made up of a hamburger with fried potatoes or roast chicken, fruit and cookies. School lunches must also provide at least one-third of the daily dietary allowances(定量) of protein, vitamin A, vitamin C, iron, calcium, and calories.
Australia
Meat pies, sausage rolls and hot dogs are all traditional dishes in Australian school shops. But as the country pays more attention to children’s health, healthier foods have started to find their way onto school menus.
Many schools have used a traffic light system. The sale of red-labelled foods, like pastries(点心), chocolate and soft drinks, is served only twice a week. Healthier green-labelled foods such as sushi(寿司), sandwiches, corn and watermelon. In some schools, students have a choice of up to 89 foods to choose from, including popcorn and rice.
South Africa
Most of South Africa’s schools do not serve meals at all. Classes end at 1:30 p m and students get their own lunches. Many students bring food from home, usually sandwiches. Fast food and fried food sell the best among students. 27、Learning English is just like learning to ride a bicycle. When learning English becomes a kind of habit, everything will become easier.
Please think about how we learned to ride a bicycle. There are four stages (阶段): At the first stage, the child doesn’t know what it is to ride a bicycle, nor can he ride. So look at ourselves, when we learned English at the first time, we were also in this condition.
And then is the second stage. Although the child cannot ride himself, he grows and understands what it is to ride a bicycle. So, at this time, teachers are our navigation (航海) marks.
So according to this, we are just like the child starting to learn and now come to the third stage. He can ride a bicycle but has to think every time how to do it.
At last, the fourth stage comes when the child has practiced consciously (有意识地) riding the bicycle so much that he doesn’t have to think. Riding a bicycle becomes a kind of habit. He can talk to people and wave (招手) to others while riding.
Learning English is just like learning to ride a bicycle. When learning becomes a kind of habit, we’ll find we can be successful not only in English but also in other subjects. When learning becomes a kind of habit, I think, no, I believe, one day we’ll succeed and the success will belong to us forever.
