Ember Mug | It’s hard to always keep coffee at the right temperature, especially in winter. It’s too hat to drink at first, but before we know it, it gets too cold and loses all its taste. According to Time, the perfect level of warmth for a cup of coffee only lasts for 37 seconds, which makes the Ember Mug a great invention. It keeps your coffee or tea at a certain temperature, anywhere between 48℃ and 62℃, once you set it through a smartphone app. |
Tasty One Top | TV cooking shows make it look so easy, but it’s almost impossible to get the recipes to look the same as how the professionals make them. However, the Tasty One Top DIY cooking helps. Developed by Buzzfeed, the cooker can be connected to a smartphone app, which has more than 1,700 recipes and videos. You choose a recipe and the app will let the cooker know what to do. For example, it’ll tell you when to turn your steak or when to add certain ingredients. |
Jibo | Smart speakers from companies like Amazon and Xiaomi have added a lot of fun to our lives. Though they’re still faceless speakers. However, Jibo, developed by MIT professor Cynthia Breazeal, has brought smart technology to life. Said to be “the world’s first social robot for the home”, Jibo looks like a cartoon character, a round head and a voice that sounds like a 10-year-old boy. Inside its “head”, there are different sensors and cameras, which allow it to recognize (辨认) faces and speech. Jibo will move to face you whenever you talk to it. It can also set alarms, remind you of important things, tell you the weather and read news or messages from your friends and family. |

A Your temperature can affect(影响) how you feel about other people. A study showed that experiencing physical warmth gives people a more positive attitude(积极的态度). For example, if you're holding a cup of hot coffee, you are probably more selfless towards others. | B About one in 10 people are left-handed. Many people think being left-handed happens for no reason. But. a new study shows that it’s caused by genes. British scientists have found genetic instructions(基因指令)in human DNA. They might cause people to be left-handed at birth. The instructions affect the part of the brain that deals with (处理) language. This might be why left- handers are better at learning languages. |
C A group of French researchers found that children with older brothers take longer to develop language skills. 27、Do video games do harm to our children? Today, many children spend a lot of their free time playing games on the Internet. In the UK, 99% of kids aged 8 to 15 play video games every week. This information tells us that the benefits (益处) and dangers of video games must be carefully considered.
For many people, video games are fun. They have bright lights, funny cartoons and exciting stories. Everywhere you look, you can see children playing these games. They play on buses and trains, in restaurants and even at school.
Video games are educational, too. They make kids think in a creative way and they have to move their hands and eyes quickly. This can improve the way that a child’s brain works. What’s more, video games make children use their imagination. The player has to do many creative things, like drawing, telling stories and building things. Video games are also a good way to teach children about technology because they can learn how computers and other devices work while they play.
However, a recent study suggests that video games can also be bad for children. First, children can download many games for free. This means that parents often don’t know if their children are playing violent or scary games. Second, many children spend too much time playing games on computers and this can lead to health problems. Third, if children spend too much time playing games instead of doing homework, they can have problems at school and do badly in studies. Finally, if children spend too much time playing video games by themselves, they might not learn how to play with their friends.
All in all, it seems clear that video games have some advantages and some disadvantages. It is up to parents to know what games their children are playing and how much time they spend on them. Parents should also make sure their children get enough exercise and spend time with other children.
