In the streets of Qiantong township in Ningbo(宁波), East China’s Zhejiang province, a group of young lion dancers became the topic(话题) of discussion last week.
The dancers in the lion dance team are mainly primary and secondary school students from the township. On Sunday, they gave their public performance for the first time, after going through hard training during their winter holiday. The children’s coach Tong Panfeng, is from Qiantong. He has a passion(热情) for this dying traditional performance.
Back in the 18th century, the tradition of lion dance became a part of the township. However, people lost interest in it during the mid-20th century.
Tong, then 26, saw the lion dance in a movie and he was deeply attracted(吸引). After learning that his grandfather used to be a lion dancer when he was young, Tong wanted to restore this amazing tradition. In 2015, Tong traveled to many places to learn the art of lion dance and visit performers. In 2017, Tong set up the Dragon and Lion Dance Team of Qiantong Central Primary School and taught lion dance as an after-school course. After that, groups of young boys and girls could often be seen practicing for eight hours during the weekends.
Far from just a performance, Tong believes that lion dance is the symbol of the spirit of China and the pride of the Chinese people. “Where there are Chinese, there are lion dancers,” said Tong.

25、Love Seeds
—Wang Wei
The red beans grow in southern land;
How many load in spring the trees?
Collect them till full is your hand;
They would recall sweet memories.
Translated by Xu Yuanchong and simplified by the editor
①Love is a popular theme in Chinese poems. What symbols do you think best stand for love? The heart, rose or chocolate? This time we are going to look at a classic Chinese poem, Love Seeds. It was written by the Tang Dynasty poet Wang Wei who had a different understanding of the symbol of love.
②In the first two lines, the poet expresses his feelings of missing his friend, who lives in the southern part, by describing the growth of red beans in spring. In classic Chinese poems, poets prefer to express feelings in an indirect or symbolic way. When describing the natural environment or showing some symbols, Chinese poets always mean more than what’s described on the surface.
③In Chinese culture, red beans are seen as “love seeds”, which have a strong cultural meaning. Because they are often hard, come in a heart shape and can be stored for a long time, those beans have long been used as a symbol of love and loyalty between lovers.
④In the last two lines, the poet wishes his faraway friend to collect as many red beans as possible, as the beans will bring back his friend’s memories of him.
⑤Instead of showing love to others by directly saying “I miss you” or using flowery language, this short poem can make readers feel deep love.
【1】Who did Wang Wei write this poem to?
A.His wife.
B.His parents.
C.His friend.
D.His children.
【2】Wang Wei expresses feelings by ________ in this poem.
A.coming straight to the point

B.how red beans are grown
C.what red beans are used for
D.why red beans are seen as “love seeds”
【4】What does Wang Wei want to show in this poem?
A.He misses someone.
B.He loves spring very much.
C.He loves the beauty of nature.
D.He wishes to go back to his hometown.

Reality TV is a type of programme. It means that real-life people, not actors, are followed and filmed in a real situation, or game.

27、 Once a circle lost a piece of its own. The circle wanted to be whole, so it went around looking for its missing piece. But because it was not complete, it could only roll very slowly. It enjoyed the flowers and the sunshine along the way. It talked with worms. It found lots of different pieces. But none of them fit. So it left them all by the side of the road and kept on looking for the missing piece.
Then one day, the circle found a piece that fit perfectly. The circle put the missing piece into itself. It could be whole with nothing missing. It was so happy and began to roll. As it was a perfect circle, it could roll very fast, too fast to see flowers or talk to worms. It realized how different the world was when it rolled so quickly. It felt so sad that it stopped, left its found piece by the side of the road and rolled away slowly.
Sometimes we are perfect when we lose something. A man who has everything is a poor man in some ways. He will never have hopes, dreams or something better. He will never know someone is loving him or someone is giving him something he has always wanted or never had.
We couldn’t be perfect, but we must be brave enough to love, strong enough to forgive, kind enough to share happiness with others and clever enough to know there is enough love around us and then we can always live a wonderful time in our lives.
【1】Which of the following is true about the circle?
A.It could roll fast when it looked for the missing piece.
B.It talked with the flowers and the sunshine along the way.
C.The piece that it found first didn’t fit.
D.It didn’t find any flowers or the sunshine along the way.

A.spent much time talking to worms B.wanted to enjoy the sunshine
C.was looking for its missing piece D.lost a piece of its own
【3】Why did the circle stop when it rolled quickly? Because it ______.
A.wanted to enjoy the world B.found a different world
C.wanted to look for another missing piece D.thought the world changed so quickly
