二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、   I never planned to be a teacher. I was headed for a law school, for a real career. Teaching was something to “get out of my system”. I would teach a couple of years and then go to get a real job. After the first couple of years, I promised myself I would leave if I didn’t love my job any more. Twenty-nine years later, that day still has not come.

So, why do I stay? I stay because I laugh and learn every day. The children are funny, insightful, and honest. If my shoes don’t match my outfit, they tell me. If my argument that Invisible Man is an important twentieth century classic doesn’t convince them, they tell me.

I stay because every single day is different. Some days, my lessons are great, and I have classes of students who are engaged in reading, writing and thinking. Some days, my lessons fall flat, and I realize that I need to start from the beginning - even after 29 years.

I stay because I love to see the children realize that they have learned something; I love to see the children write well; I love the feeling of reading a well-argued essay, and I love smiling as I write a final “Awesome job!” on a paper on which a student has worked hard.

I stay because what I’ve learned in 29 years is that I do have a “real” job - the most real job there is. It’s the one that leads to other jobs, that helps to create good thinkers who go on to be productive in our society, and that supports our community as it grows and times change. My job is among the ones that matter most.

1The author became a teacher because he _________.

A.needed money to go to a law school B.loved dealing with children

C.loved teaching very much D.failed to get a “real” job

2We can infer from Paragraph 2 that the author _________.

A.often pays no attention to his outfit B.is good at convincing his students

C.enjoys his time with his students D.doesn’t read many classics

3What does the underlined phrase “fall flat” in paragraph 3 mean?

A.end in failure B.pay off C.make sense D.fall into ruin

4What is the passage mainly about?

A.What the author has learned as a teacher.

B.What the author thinks of being a teacher.

C.Why the author didn’t choose to become a lawyer.

D.Why the author chooses to stay as a teacher.

  • 28、   Several recent studies have suggested that women experience laughter more than men. According to medical experts, laughter isn't just about having fun—it actually has many health benefits. Studies have shown that the act of laughing can lower blood pressure, reduce stress and improve immune function(免疫功能).

Not only that, but laughter can also provide benefits similar to that of an anti-depressant. When you laugh, your body releases endorphins(内啡肽)which results in a general feeling of health and well-being. Regular laughter can play a role in helping you to avoid many health problems. Thus, not only do women tend to laugh more than men, they are also more likely to "have the last laugh".

According to a study conducted at the Stanford University of Medicine, gender( 性别)can affect the way that a person's brain responds to humor. The study, which involved the monitoring of 10 men and 10 women watching cartoons, shows that women are more likely than their male peers to use the part of the brain that processes rewards. It seemed that women had lower expectations in regard to a reward (in this case, the reward being the punch-line of the joke or cartoon), which resulted in them enjoying the experience more than the men. Men, on the other hand, seemed to expect that they would find the cartoons humorous, and were therefore more likely to be disappointed and find them less amusing.

Women are more likely to respond to men whom they find humorous and men seem to recognize this and do their best to make women laugh. It has been shown that women are more likely to laugh in the presence of men whom they have an attraction towards and men are more likely to be attracted to women who laugh in their presence because it makes them feel more desirable. Obviously, it is more important to men that a woman appreciates their humor.

1The studies show that regular laughter can ______.

A.raise blood pressure B.keep us nervous

C.make immune function worse D.keep us healthy and happy

2Why do women experience laughter more than men?

A.Because they like telling humorous stories. B.Because they like watching cartoons.

C.Because they expect little of a reward. D.Because they seldom respond to humor.

3From the last paragraph we can infer ______.

A.women dislike humorous men B.men dislike humorous women

C.laughter makes women humorous D.humorous men make women happy

4What's the main idea of the passage ?

A.Women enjoy humor more than men

    B.Laughter has many health benefits

    C.Women laugh more than men

D.Humorous men are popular with women

  • 29、Shakespeare, more perhaps than any other writer, made full use of the greatest resources of the English language. Most of us use about five thousand words in our normal employment of English; Shakespeare in his works used about twentyfive thousand! There is probably no better way for a foreigner to appreciate the richness and variety of the English language than by studying the various ways in which Shakespeare used it. Such a study is well worth the effort, even though some aspects of English usage and the meaning of many words have changed since Shakespeare’s day.

However, it is surprising that we should know comparatively little about the life of the greatest English author. We know that Shakespeare was born in 1564 in Stratford-on-Avon, and that he died there in 1616. He almost certainly attended the Grammar School in the town, but of this we cannot be sure. We know he was married there in 1582 to Anne Hathaway and that he had three children. We know that he spent much of his life in London writing his masterpieces. But this is almost all that we do know.

However, what is important about Shakespeare’s life is not its details but the products, the plays and the poems. For many years scholars have been trying to add a few facts about Shakespeare’s life to the small number we already possess and for an equally long time critics have been theorizing about the plays. Sometimes, indeed, it seems that the poetry of Shakespeare will disappear under the great mass of comment that has been written upon it.

Fortunately, this is not likely to happen. Shakespeare’s people have long delighted not just the English but lovers of literature everywhere, and will continue to do so after the scholars and critics and all their works have been forgotten.

    【1】What’s Para.1 mainly about?

A.The great varieties in writing styles.

B.The great length of Shakespeare’s works.

C.The richness of the content in Shakespeare’s works.

D.The rich English language used by Shakespeare in his works.

【2】According to the passage, which of the following remains uncertain about Shakespeare?

    A.His date of birth.

    B.His marriage.

C.His life in the Grammar School.

    D.His date of death.

【3】What does the last sentence in Para.3 mean?

A.People can’t see the poetry of Shakespeare any more.

B.The comment is printed on the poetry of Shakespeare.

C.People don’t think the poetry of Shakespeare good any more.

D.Some people pay more attention to the comment than to Shakespeare’s poetry.

【4】The underlined phrase “Shakespeare’s people” in Para.4 refers to ________.

    A.the characters in Shakespeare’s works

B.the people whose native language is English

C.the people living in Shakespeare’s day

    D.the readers of Shakespeare’s works
