二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、The 33-year-old Australian is actually a student in international relations completing his PhD through Griffith University. He came to Beijing for cooperative research at Peking University less than two years ago. Such an academic life was just added color with a chance offered by the cultural exchanges project, “I’m in China”.

Bradley was lucky to win the most “likes” for his photo story about his life in China and became one of 20 winners to visit locations after a global recruitment (招募) by the project this summer. All the winners’ experiences were filmed to produce a reality show, My Chinese Working Day, which will be broadcast by mid-September.

Bradley was chosen to work as a recreational manager for a Chinese wedding. The film crew took the 20 winners to many “amazing sites” and the staff at the resort taught them a lot about how to “show modern Chinese traits (特色) while still keeping traditional customs“”, Bradley said. “I would have to say two things stick out as the most memorable: the helicopter ride and talking with the staff at the hotel about how they organize weddings here in China,” he said. That was Bradley’s first time to be in a helicopter, and he was too absorbed with the view of the beautiful coastline.

“I think it is so important to show other Australians the different sceneries in China. I think so many Australians, when they think about China, they will imagine the historical sites of Beijing and the exciting things to see in Shanghai but have no idea about other beautiful places like Sanya or the many other places people have been taken to in this TV series,” Bradley said

As to the Chinese wedding, the ceremony was quite familiar to Bradley, which he said was “very much like any wedding he had been to back in Australia”. But it was still “interesting to see how Chinese couples balance the desires of a modern wedding while keeping Chinese traditions”.

【1】Why did Bradley come to China?

    A.To visit Peking university.

    B.To do the cooperative research.

    C.To produce a reality show.

    D.To attend a wedding party.

【2】What made Bradley chosen from the cultural exchanges project?

    A.His appealing photo story.

    B.His academic life.

    C.His working day.

    D.His colorful exchange project.

【3】What can we learn from paragraph 4?

A.Australians don’t know anything about China.

B.Bradley has been to Beijing and Shanghai before.

C.Australians know a variety of beautiful places in China

D.Bradley wants to broaden Australians’ eyes of China

【4】What is the passage mainly about?

    A.Bradley’s helicopter.

    B.Bradley’s wedding.

    C.Bradley in China.

    D.Bradley in Sanya.

  • 22、Most health experts would agree that eating meat — especially red meat — in large quantities isn’t good for us, or the planet. Studies point to an increased risk of heart disease and cancer correlating to our meat-heavy diets. Meanwhile, manufacturers are busy producing increasingly tasty and more meat-like products that match the real things — making the switch from eating animals seem like a no-brainer. But are these fake meat products any healthier for us?

Jinan Banna, a dietitian and nutrition professor at the University of Hawaii says that some fake meat products can be considered “ultra-processed” foods. “That means they go through multiple processes and have a lot of added ingredients (配料),” she said. “An alternative burger, for example, might have quite a bit of sodium (钠), as well as additives.” Some of these additives are on the market for a while before the scientific community determines them to be harmful, Banna added. “Anytime you see a long list of ingredients, including ‘natural flavors’, take it as a warning sign. In other words, eschew products with lengthy ingredient lists,” said Sofia Popov, a microbiome scientist in Copenhagen. “Who knows what’s actually in it?”

Perhaps convenience is the best argument for buying an alternative meat product you can simply cook straight out of the box, but some health experts suggest other plant-based healthful options can be simple, too. For example, on a busy day, Banna said she was able to throw together a tempeh (a traditional soya product) dish which she put in a little oil, vinegar and other seasonings. “We definitely obtain nutrients from animal-based food — iron and zinc and other minerals as well. But it also contains fat and cholesterol, so it’s good to control our intake,” said Banna. “Vegetarian substitutes can be very tasty so we shouldn’t shy away from them.”

【1】What is the common belief on consuming red meat?

A.It is beneficial to our planet.

    B.It can stimulate the economy.

C.It should be served with vegetables.

D.It may make us suffer from heart disease.

【2】What does the underlined word “eschew” in paragraph 2 mean?

    A.Avoid.

    B.Provide.

    C.Inspect.

    D.Purchase.

【3】What does Banna advise people to do?

    A.Take in more minerals.

    B.Turn to convenient food instead.

    C.Seek for plant-based meals.

    D.Choose some animal-based substitutes.

【4】What can be the best title for the text?

    A.Why Is Plant-based Meat Dying?

B.Are Fake Meat Products Good For You?

    C.Fake Meat: Food’s Future Or A Fashion?

D.What Happened To The Plant-based Meat?

  • 24、Two things changed my life: my mother and a white plastic bike basket. I have thought long and hard about it and it’s true. I would be a different person if my mom hadn’t turned a silly bicycle accessory into a life lesson that I carry with me today.

My mother and father were united in their way of raising children, but it mostly fell to my mother to actually carry it out. Looking back, I honestly don’t know how she did it. Managing the family budget must have been a very hard task, but she made it look effortless. If we complained about not having what another kid did, we’d hear something like, “I don’t care what so-and-so got for his birthday, you are not getting a TV in your room, a car for your birthday or a lavish sweet-16 party.” We had to earn our allowance by doing chores around the house. I can still remember how long it took to polish the legs of our coffee table. My brothers can no doubt remember hours spent cleaning the house. Like the two little girls growing up at the White House, we made our own beds (no one left the house until that was done) and picked up after ourselves. We had to keep track of our belongings, and if something was lost, it was not replaced.

It was summer and, one day, my mother drove me to the bike shop to get a tire fixed — and there it was in the window. White, shiny, plastic and decorated with flowers, the basket winked at me and I knew — I knew — I had to have it.

“It’s beautiful,” my mother said when I pointed it out to her. “What a neat basket.”

I tried to hold off at first. I played it cool for a short while. But then I guess I couldn’t stand it any longer: “Mom, please can I please, please get it? I’ll do extra chores for as long as you say. I’ll do anything, but I need that basket. I love that basket. Please, Mom. Please?”

    I was desperate.

“ You know,” she said, gently rubbing my back while we both stared at what I believed was the coolest thing ever, “If you save up you could buy this yourself.”

“By the time I make enough it’ll be gone!”

“Maybe Roger here could hold it for you,” she smiled at Roger, the bike guy.

“He can’t hold it for that long, Mom. Someone else will buy it. Please, Mom, please?” “There might be another way,” she said.

And so our paying plan unfolded. My mother bought the beautiful basket and put it safely in some hiding place I couldn’t find. Each week I eagerly counted my growing savings increased by extra work here and there (washing the car, helping my mother make dinner, delivering or collecting things on my bike that already looked naked without the basket in front). And then, weeks later, I counted, re-counted and jumped for joy. Oh, happy day! I made it! I finally had the exact amount we’d agreed upon....

Days later the unthinkable happened. A neighborhood girl I’d played with millions of times appeared with the exact same basket fixed to her shiny, new bike that already had all the bells and whistles. I rode hard and fast home to tell my mother about this disaster. This horrible turn of events.

And then came the lesson I’ve taken with me through my life: “Honey, your basket is extra-special,” Mom said, gently wiping away my hot tears. “Your basket is special because you paid for it yourself.”

【1】What can we learn from the first two paragraphs?

A.The mother raised her children in an unusual way.

B.The writer envied the daughters of the U.S. president.

C.The writer’s parents shared the duty to bring up children.

D.Managing budget is an effortless job to most housewives.

【2】By using “naked” (Paragraph 12), the author seems to stress that the basket was ________.

A.well worth the effort she had made

B.the most valuable she had ever obtained

C.an unnecessary accessory to her bike

D.something the bike couldn’t do without

【3】To the author, it seemed to be a horrible turn of events that ________.

A.the basket cost more than she had saved

B.someone else had got a basket of the same kind

    C.her paying plan was spoiled

D.a neighborhood girl bought a nicer bike

【4】What is the life lesson the author learned from her mother?

A.Save money for a rainy day.

B.Good advice is beyond all price.

C.Earn your bread with your sweat.

D.God helps those who help themselves.

  • 25、A Singular Definition of Beauty

The mainstream beauty standard in China is a fair and freckle-free(没有雀斑) face with big eyes and high nose bridge. Before _______photos on the social network, many women use photo beatification apps to not only smoothen and whiten their skin but enlarge their eyes_______.It's common for _______ young women to have their freckles removed by laser, or to enlarge their eyes and shave their facial bones with plastic surgeries.

Fair, spotless skin is often connected with being elegant, pure and even _______. Freckles, meanwhile, are considered as dirty, ugly and a sign of ill-health. One of the “funny” comments I've heard, from someone promoting traditional Chinese medicines, was that freckles “are a(n) _______ of a disease.”

This singular definition of beauty can create _______ for those who don't fit within it. I grew up thinking my freckles were _______ by most people. It was not until in college that my attitude changed, and it took another few years _______ I learned to truly love my freckles. I believe they make me _______ and beautiful.

The idea of having a single beauty standard is especially strange for a country as diverse as China. With 56 officially ________ minority groups, beauty here is rich and varied. Thankfully, the ________definition of beauty is slowly improving. The state-run newspaper China Daily took a firm stand and offered its support, with an article calling on people to be culturally confident and ________ what we have naturally.

Hopefully,________,more girls can learn to________ who they are and what they look like and truly love themselves regardless of whether they ________ the traditional standards of beauty.
