21、Now some businesses are using Artificial Intelligence as a shortcut to writing materials for them in hopes of saving time and effort. Sure, computers are great at capturing(捕捉) information and recognizing trending searches, but translating that information into an organized piece of writing designed specifically for you? Not so much.
Your job as a business owner is to connect with your customers. To show them you “see” them, understand them, and you can deliver. You want to reach your clients not just by showing calculated content that shows you are relevant. The job of AI is to skim the surface and bring you back keywords and phrases that are, well, robotic. However, through the complexities of human thought and emotion, human content writers far surpass AI in choosing just the right words that can touch and attract other humans.
People who use AI to generate their writing materials might think it will save them time, but the opposite ends up being true. We’re all been in situations where we take a shortcut to save time, and it ends up creating more work. The same goes for using AI for writing. For example, it captures a lot of the top-ranking content for you to slap onto your blog, but you then have to go back and figure out how to transform that forced content into your business’s voice, style and tone. It’s like someone giving you a pair of pants. Yay! Pants! But they are not your size or color, so you spend even more time mending them and trying to talk yourself into liking them than the time you would have spent just getting the pants for yourself.
AI has had much more success in fields such as manufacturing and technology. For now, there isn’t any AI writer software sophisticated (水平高的) and creative enough to sound just like a human.
But humans do have limitations and AI writers can work with writers as an aid. You can imagine AI that could do your research for writing a white paper, or fact check for you. These types of tools could be incredible time-saving tools for writers in the future.

22、John was waiting for the girl whose heart he knew, but whose face he didn’t, the girl with the rose. Thirteen months ago, in a Florida library he took a book off the shelf and found himself attracted by the notes in the margin (页边). The soft handwriting reflected a thoughtful soul and insightful mind.
In front of the book, he discovered the previous owner’s name, Miss Hollis Maynell. With time and effort, he located her address. He wrote her a letter introducing himself and inviting her to correspond. During the next year and one month, the two grew to know each other through the mail. A romance was developing. John requested a photograph, but she refused. She felt that if he really cared, it wouldn’t matter what she looked like. Later they scheduled their first meeting - 7:00 p.m. at Grand Central Station in New York.
“You’ll recognize me,” she wrote, “by the red rose I’ll be wearing on my coat.” So at 7:00 he was in the station looking for the girl with the red rose.
A young woman in a green suit was coming towards him, her figure long and slim and her eyes were blue as flowers. Almost uncontrollably he made one step closer to her, and just at this moment he saw Hollis Maynell - a woman well past 40. The girl was walking quickly away. He felt as though he was at a loss, so eager was his desire to follow her, and yet so deep was his longing for the woman whose spirit had truly accompanied him and upheld his own.
He did not hesitate. He squared his shoulders and said, “I’m John, and you must be Miss Maynell. I am so glad you could meet me; may I take you to dinner?”
The woman smiled, “I don’t know what this is about, son,” she answered, “but the young lady in the green suit begged me to wear this rose on my coat. And she said if you were to ask me out to dinner, I should tell you she is waiting for you in the restaurant across the street. She said it was some kind of test!”
It’s not difficult to admire wisdom. The true nature of a heart is seen in its response to the unattractive.

23、More than 140 sign languages are used today, primarily by deaf communities around the world. Like spoken languages, each sign language has its own grammar, vocabulary and other special features. For example, American Sign Language is unintelligible(无法了解的)to British Sign language. In fact, American Sign language has more in common with French Sign Language, largely because French educators played a key role in helping get deaf schools founded in the United States during the 19th century.
There haven’t been a lot of comparisons of sign languages. University of Texas, Austin linguist Justin Powers and his colleagues aim to address that information gap. In order to study the question of sign language evolution, they first collected a database of manual alphabets from dozens of different sign languages around the world. So a manual alpha-bet is kind of a subsystem within a sign language that is used to represent a written language. And there’s a hand shape that corresponds to each letter.
To uncover relationships between the alphabets% the researchers used the same methods that biologists use to figure out relationships between different species, based on their DNA. The methods grouped sign languages in this study into five main European lineages(谱系). And those were Austrian origin, British origin, French origin, Spanish and Swedish. Power says manual alphabets from Austria, France and Spain could date back to one-handed manual alphabets from 16th- and 17th-century Spain. But each of those lineages evolved independently of each other.
The study also confirmed the French origins of American Sign Language and those of other countries, including Mexico, Brazil and the Netherlands. Surprisingly, the Austrian manual alphabet influenced sign languages as far away as Russia. But while this lineage has largely died out, remains of it live on in Icelandic Sign language today.
Power says future research comparing the vocabularies of different sign languages could provide even more clues about how they’ve changed over time. Understanding how sign languages evolve would tell us a lot about the way that language, in general, evolves.

24、It was an afternoon in August. I was just short of turning eighteen. I stood in front of a six story high, red brick building. It was to be my new home for the next several years. I was a bit scared, unsettled and thrilled at the same time. I had two suitcases and a bag with me. In them were packed all of my clothes, towels, sheets, alarm clock and everything else I thought I would need. I carried them upstairs and then threw them on my bed. I looked around the room wondering what life had in store for me.
It was another afternoon in August. I was just short of turning forty two. My daughter was eighteen and we were standing in front of the same building. I smiled as I helped her carry her things up to her room but I also noticed that my wife and I were making more than one trip. All of the students not just my daughter seemed to have so much more stuff than I did all those years ago. Yet, it didn’t seem to make things any better for them. In fact, they looked more stressed than I remembered being on my first day there. At that moment, I wondered what life had in store for my daughter.
Last night I had a dream that I have had many times before. I was back in that same room with my belongings piled on my bed searching for my course book and wondering what classes I would take. I often wondered what this dream meant but when I woke up this morning it became crystal clear to me. We are sometimes teachers in the life, but we are always students in it. We are here taking the most important class ever. We are here to learn to love ourselves. We are here to learn to love everyone as ourselves. And it takes a lifetime. The stuff we carry with us through this life doesn’t matter at all either. It is the stuff we carry inside of us when we leave this life that really counts.

A.Generous.
B.Diligent.
