  • 22、Sake(日本米酒)is produced in almost every corner of Japan. It has a place in the soul of the Japanese and has been woven into the history and culture of Japan.

I’ve been told to leave Tokyo if I really want to understand the drink since it is a product of the countryside in Japan: rice from the fields, water from the mountains.

“You can tell a great deal about a place from the sake produced there. It’s made with local water and local rice. So when you taste it, you’re truly tasting a part of local culture, ” explains Koichi Hasegawa, the 13th-generation owner of Buko Shuzo Brewery in Chichibu, one of the closest towns to Tokyo.

As I taste my way through the different grades of sake, Hasegawa speaks poetically of the drink. “Sake is an important part of the journey of life. It’s present at birthdays, weddings and funerals, ” he says. “Drinking sake beneath the cherry trees in spring or under the autumn moon, drinkers might think over the beginning and ending in their lives. No sake, no life. ”

For much of its history, sake-making was reserved for temples, and sake still plays a key part in Japan’s religious ceremony. People believe its giddy(微醺的)effect helps them communicate with gods.

“On first taste, sake is delicious. Before long, it kicks you off your feet, ” says Yogoemon Ide, the president of Ide Sake Brewery—a family-operated brewery that has been in business for 21 generations—near Mount Fuji, Japan’s highest and holiest mountain. “I think sake is a supernatural liquid. It was originally used to spread the word of God. ”

Stepping out of Yogoemon Ide’s brewery and gazing up at Mount Fuji, I recognize an additional taste of the lde sake: an aftertaste of the cold, unfriendly climate around the potentially life-threatening volcanic mountain.

【1】What can be learned about sake from the text?

B.It is better to taste it in the countryside.

C.It is just reserved for special events in Japan.

D.It is an old-fashioned drink made in big cities.

【2】The Ide sake most probably reminds the author of ______.

    A.the uncertainty of life

    B.the birth of his children

    C.his boring daily work

    D.his wedding happiness

【3】Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?

A.The Oldest Sake Producers in Japan

    B.Tastes of Different Japanese Sakes

    C.Beautiful Countryside Sceneries in Japan

D.My Experience With “the Drink of Japan”

【4】In which section of a newspaper may this text appear?

    A.Advertisement.

  • 23、Why build a house when you can print one instead? Startups around the world are now using 3D printing technology for home construction. They say it’s faster, cheaper and more sustainable than traditional methods. Printing houses can also save huge amounts of scrap wood, metal and other construction materials that would otherwise be wasted by ending up in landfills.

Currently, 3D printing systems can equal the work output of 10 to 20 workers in five or six different trades, said Jason Ballard, CEO and co-founder of ICON, a 3D printing construction startup, according to AP News. The machines can work 24 hours a day as well, saving developers both time and money.

So how do these 3D printers “print” a house anyway? Machines deposit thin layers of material — such as concrete, metal and plastic — until the three-dimensional house is built from the ground up. And a house can be completed within 120 hours, as was the case in the recent completion of the Netherlands’ first 3D printed house, according to CNN.

“The benefits that automation and digitization had brought to so many other industries regarding speed and affordability were completely missing from the construction industry,” Ballard said, adding that 3D printing “was like the most powerful of all the automations we could discover.”

This powerful automation has the potential to combat rising prices in the housing market, homelessness and overcrowding. ICON has even teamed up with nonprofit group New Story to develop the first 3D printed neighborhood in the world in Mexico. But the technology behind 3D printing houses is still in its early stages of development. For example, ICON alone has only printed 24 houses in the US and Mexico.

That isn’t stopping futurists from dreaming of larger applications of this technology. AI Space Factory, a New York-based architectural and technology design agency, has set out to design a Mars habitat to be printed from the ground up Martian rocks and a plant-based polymer, according to CNET.

But before we live on other planets, 3D printed houses will change things here on Earth.

“With the 3D printed home, we’re now setting the tone for the future: the rapid realization of affordable homes with control over the shape of your own house,” said Yasin Torunoglu, alderman for housing in the community of the Netherlands’ first 3D printed house.

【1】What is an advantage of printing houses?

A.It is cheaper and less wasteful.

    B.It helps create manufacturing jobs.

    C.Its construction materials are safer.

D.It improves the cleanliness of construction sites.

【2】What is the meaning of the underlined phrase in the third paragraph?

    A.crazily

    B.rapidly

    C.completely

    D.perfectly

【3】What’s Yasin Torunoglu’s attitude toward the future of 3D printed houses?

    A.Cautious.

    B.Optimistic.

    C.Pessimistic.

    D.Suspicious.

【4】What’s the main purpose of the article?

A.To predict the development of 3D printing.

    B.To compare different construction technologies.

C.To encourage the use of 3D printing technology.

D.To report on 3D printing technology for construction.

  • 24、In a video, an anxious elephant is pacing back and forth. However, the animal instantly calms down upon hearing a song of American singer and actress Cher. The video was the evidence of the pop singer and animal activists' four-year-long efforts to save Kaavan, the world's loneliest elephant.

Kaavan was just a year old when Sri Lankan officials gifted him to Pakistan in 1985. The now 36-year-old Asian elephant spent a large part of the next three decades chained in a small space at the Marghazar Zoo in Islamabad, Pakistan. He was only brought out regularly to entertain zoo visitors. To make matters worse, his partner Saheli, a female elephant who arrived at the zoo in 1990, died in 2012, leaving the social animal with no companion. Lonely Kaavan's mental and physical health rapidly became worse.

The poor animal's sufferings first caused activists to start a social media campaign that urged Pakistani officials to move him to an elephant sanctuary(保护区). However, their request fell on deaf ears. In 2016, Cher was looking through her Twitter when she noticed messages by fans urging her to help Kaavan. Cher reached out to fellow animal activists Mark Cowne and his wife, Gina Cowne, to help her launch a social media campaign to help Kaavan. They first pushed for Kaavan to rid chains and then persuaded the zoo to add a tin roof over his shelter, water in the pool, and a tire for him to play with.

While the reforms were encouraging, the team soon realized that more needed to be done and set up Free the Wild, a nonprofit organization devoted to rescuing Kaavan and other wild animals in similar situations. It took four years, but in 2020, an Islamabad high court ordered the Marghazar Zoo to shut down and relocate all its animals to new homes.

For Kaavan, that meant taking a seven-hour flight to the beautiful Cambodia Wildlife Sanctuary. The elephant is adjusting extremely well to his new home and has even picked his favorite female elephant from the three he has been interacting with since arrival.

【1】What is the second paragraph mainly about?

A.The root cause of Kaavan's anxiety.

    B.The inspiration of Cher's songwriting.

    C.The terrible situations Kaavan faced.

    D.The significance of saving elephants.

【2】What was the result of activists' initial effort to save Kaavan?

A.It unluckily ended up in vain.

B.It led to a new elephant sanctuary.

C.It was taken seriously by Pakistani officials.

D.It won Cher's praise on Twitter.

【3】How did Cher and the Cownes help Kaavan before 2020?

A.They set him free from the Marghazar Zoo.

B.They managed to find a female partner for him.

C.They took him to Cambodia Wildlife Sanctuary.

D.They made efforts to improve his living conditions.

【4】How is Kaavan's life in Cambodia Wildlife Sanctuary?

    A.Pleasant.

    B.Competitive.

    C.Dangerous.

    D.Lonely.

  • 26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Writing assignment had always been difficult for fifth grader Jimmy and this time it just seemed impossible. The English teacher Mrs. Davis gave them the title, I Pride Myself on…Jimmy racked his brains but found nothing he was proud about himself. He was only average in everything both at home and at school.

At home, his parents supported and took care of the family; his elder sister Julia was sometimes helpful with housework and taking care of his baby sister Lily, who was twelvemonth sold. As for Jimmy, he was the kind of middle kid who seemed nonexistent except for his appearance at the dinner table for each meal. At school, he was average in all subjects and never had a chance to standout in school activities. It seemed to him that all his friends deserved certain kind of praise either for their academic performance or for a favorite hobby, except him. His teachers would be satisfied if he didn’t get himself into some kind of trouble each day.

It was Friday evening. The composition would be due the next Monday but Jimmy was still trying to figure out what to write about. After dinner, he stood by the kitchen window, wondering what the teacher would say if he failed to finish the composition on time. He could hear Julia promising Mom and Dad she would take care of Lily so that Mom and Dad could leave for a movie and have a good time.

“Jimmy, what are you up to there?” Julia asked putting Lily in the stroller (婴儿车). Jimmy went overhanging his head and poured out his trouble. “That’s really a problem,” said Julia with compassion. “But if you will look after Lily this evening, I will tell you what you can pride yourself on.” That seemed a fair deal for Jimmy and he accepted it. After some instructions on baby care, Julia left Lily to Jimmy and went upstairs.

    注意:

    1.续写词数应为150个左右;

    2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

It was the first time for Jimmy to sit a baby but he was determined to do a good job.

The next morning, at dinner, Jimmy told Julia he had already known what to write about.
