24、This story happened when I was in Saint Lucia with my family. My sister, Diana, who also happens to be my best friend and one of the funniest and kindest people I know, went blind in one eye about 9 years ago. Diana sometimes feels troubled about the way her eye looks now.The pupil (瞳孔) is no longer black; it’s kind of “glows” in photos.
Diana recently bought a special contact lens that makes her eye look like it did before it changed color, but she doesn’t wear this lens often because it becomes quite painful after about an hour.
One night during our holiday, a hotel photographer was taking pictures of the guests as they entered the area set up for dinner.
Diana felt regretful and said if she had known there were going to be pictures taken to record this special moment, she would have worn her contact lens so her eye wouldn’t be so shiny in the picture.
The next day, I was sitting with Diana and her husband Ted. While we were talking, the photographer who had been at the dinner the night before, handed her a photo, leaned in and quietly said, “I matched the color of your eyes in the picture.”
As he walked away, my sister happily said to me and Ted, “Look! He fixed my eye!”
The photographer stopped. He turned around and walked back to our table.
He put his hand on Diana’s shoulder, leaned in again and gently said, “Just to be clear: I didn’t fix your eye. There isn’t anything wrong with your eye. I simply matched the color.”
Her eyes filled up with tears. It was very warm for her heart to hear these beautiful words. It didn’t take much time and made so much difference. It helped her change the way she feels about herself.
I have always loved these words: “The world is full of good people. lf you can’t find one, be one!”

He called to his mother and said, “Mum, come and look at this pretty garden. I wish I might open the gate, and walk in.” The gardener (园丁) heard what Frank said, and kindly invited him and his mother to come into the garden.
Frank’s mother thanked the man. Then she said to her son, “Frank, if I take you to walk in this garden, you must take care not to meddle (乱动) with anything in it.” Frank walked along the tidy gravel walks, and looked at everything, but touched nothing that he saw. Each different part of China has its own special forms of traditional art. These usually try to show things that are important in life, such as love, beauty and family.
Paper cutting is a traditional Chinese art. Many people in China stick (粘贴) paper cuttings on their walls or their windows. The paper—cutter uses very simple tools, such as knives and scissors, to cut parts of the paper away. After these parts are cut away, a lovely picture of people or animals appears. “ No,” said the sculptor without looking up, “ We need only one, but the first one got damaged during the last stage (时期).”

Why do we call women jinguo(巾帼) in Chinese?
In China, jinguo is a cool and somewhat literary way to refer to women. But what does it 【1】 (actual) mean?
It is a kind of 【2】 [ska:f] or head wrap that was worn in ancient China. Before the Han Dynasty(206 B.C.—220 A.D.), it was fashionable for men and women to use jinguo to wrap their hair. Later on, only women wore them.
It is said that jinguo was used to refer to women because of Zhuge Liang—a famous statesman who lived 【3】 [ˈdjuərɪŋ] the Three Kingdoms period (220—228).【4】 (story) say that Zhuge once started a war 【5】 the Wei Kingdom. However, the Wei general(将军) Sima Yi didn’t want to fight and asked his army to stay in the city. Zhuge then 【6】 (send) a jinguo to Sima as a form of humiliation(羞辱)—implying that Sima was as timid(胆怯的) as a little girl.
After that people started to use jinguo to refer to women, but as a form of praise 【7】. There is a phrase “巾帼不让须眉”, which means “women are not inferior to men. Xumei refers to men because men often have 【8】 [θɪk] beards and eyebrows.
People also put jinguo and yingxiong together to make the phrase “jinguo yingxiong”, or “female heroes”. 【9】 example, Hua Mulan and Mu Guiying were both well-known jinguo yingxiong in ancient China.
Today, jinguo yingxiong doen’t just refer to female warriors like Hua and Mu. It can refer to any outstanding woman who has made lots of great 【10】 (achieve).
