21、 Wild Track is an organization that aims to protect endangered animals like rhinos. They use a computer program that runs photos of animal track through an algorithm (演算法).Then the program makes the same observations as a tracker would, allowing scientists to know where individual animals go. However, the program itself needs “training”.
It starts with collecting good photos of prints from endangered animals in captivity ( 圈养).As people send in photos of tracks from animals in the wild, the FIT program can compare it to tracks from animals it “knows”. As the program becomes more accurate, Wild Track hopes it will become a major tool for monitoring any endangered species.
Anyone can help Wild Track by taking images of tracks and sending them to a partner organization called naturalist.org. The only tool you need is a digital camera or cellphone. After finding a clear track, place one ruler along the bottom of the footprint and another along the left side. Below the footprint, place a note containing your exact name and the date. Holding the camera or cellphone directly above the track, take a photo showing the footprint, rulers and note. Later, visit naturalist.org and follow the instructions on the site to send your photo.
Wild Track needs photos of footprints made not only by animals in captivity but also those living in the wild. In wild places, you should take care not to disturb animals in their natural environment. If you intend to photograph in a wild area that is unknown to you, then you should not go there alone. Instead, go with someone who is familiar with the region and experienced at tracking.

22、For some minutes, all was quiet in the street. Then, from across the street, someone came walking at a slow pace.
It looked like a man of middle height, dressed in a big raincoat, a soft hat and rubber soled boots or shoes, and making little sound while walking: at most a soft, sliding sound. No one was in sight. It was a street with two rows of about fifty small houses, and there were three lamps on either side. The lamp nearest the child’s house could be seen clearly, but the others were almost hidden by the smoky air. A car passed the end of the street and its lights showed faintly, but clearly enough the wrinkled skin of a woman’s small face. The car disappeared as the woman, wrapped up in her coat, reached the doorway of the child’s house.
She put a key into the lock quickly, pushed the door open and stepped inside, then close the door without looking round. She began to breathe hard.
She leaned against the door for a moment, then straightened up as if with an effort, and walked towards the door of the front room, the passage leading to the kitchen, and the narrow staircase. She hesitated outside the door, and then went up the stairs, quickly but with hardly a sound. There was enough light from the narrow hall to show the four doors leading off a small landing. She pushed each door open in turn and shone a torch inside, and the light fell upon beds, walls, furniture, a bathroom band basin, a mirror which flashed brightness back; but this was not what the woman was looking for. She turned away and went downstairs and hesitated again at the foot of the stairs, then turned towards the kitchen. Clearly there was nothing there, or in the small wash-room, that she wanted. Two rooms remained; the front room and a smaller one next to it. She opened the front room door. After a moment, she saw the child’s bed and the child.

23、Social media is one of the fastest-growing industries in today’s world. A study conducted by the US think tank (智囊团) Pew Research Center showed that 92 percent of teenagers go online daily.
The wide spread of social media has changed nearly all parts of teenagers’ lives.
Changing relationships
High school student Elly Cooper from Illinois said social media often reduces face-to-face communication.
“It makes in-person relationships harder because people give attention to their phones instead of their boyfriends or girlfriends,” Cooper said.
There’s also a greater possibility of things getting lost in translation over social media.
“If half of your relationship is over social media, you don’t really know how the other person is reacting,” Sienna Schulte, a junior student from Illinois, said.
Yet, some people believe social media has made it easier to start relationships with anyone from anywhere. Beth Kaplan from Illinois met her long-distance friend through social media. He currently lives in Scotland, but they’re still able to frequently communicate with one another.
“I can feel close to someone that I’m talking to via(通过)FaceTime,” Kaplan said.
Wanting to be “liked”
The rise of social media has changed the way teenagers see themselves.
The 19-year-old Essena O’Neill announced on the social networking service Instagram that she was quitting social media because it made her obsessed (痴迷) with appearing perfect online.
Negative comments also can do great damage to a teenager’s self-esteem (自尊).
In particular, anonymous (匿名的) social media apps such as Yik Yak may provide opportunities for cyber bullying (网络欺凌).
The app allows users within 5 miles (8 km) to create and add comments to everything. Teenagers who get negative comments on these sites can’t help but feel hurt.
Opening new doors
However, Armin Korsos, a student from Illinois, takes advantage of the comments he receives over social media to improve his videos on the social networking site Youtube.
“Social media can help people show themselves and their talents to the world in a way that was never possible before,” Korsos said.
But Korsos recognizes that social media has become a distraction (让人分心的事).“Social media, though it helps people connect with their friends and stay updated, is not all necessary.”
【1】What is the article mainly about?
A. The major problems with social media.
B. The effect of social media on teenagers.
C. How teenagers benefit from social media.
D. Why social media appeals so much to teenagers.
【2】How does social media change relationships, according to the article?
A. It pushes people to meet their friends more often offline.
B. It encourages people to pay more attention to those around them.
C. It enables users to understand accurately what others are talking about online.
D. It allows people to keep in touch with their friends who live far away more easily.
【3】Essena O’Neill decided to disconnect herself from social media because ______.
A. she couldn’t tolerate cyberbullying on social media
B. she wanted to spend more time with her friends in reality
C. she was troubled by her desire to look perfect on social media
D. she always felt hurt by the negative information online
【4】Which statement about the use of social media would Armin Korsos probably agree with?
A. The use of social media taught him to turn negative comments into motivations.
B. Social media can easily become an addiction(着迷), despite its benefits.
C. Social media is mostly a distraction to teenagers, so it is unnecessary for it to exist.
D. If used well, social media can create opportunities for teenagers to develop themselves.
24、 Taking a step requires just one second for a normal person. But not for Gao Ziren, whose paralyzed left 1eg requires him to first move a crutch (拐杖) forward before his leg, and then balance himself. For 42 years, Gao, a teacher at Lixin village primary school in a mountainous area of East China’s Jiangxi province, has walked this way between his home, the school and his students’ homes. Over the course of his career, he has worn out more than 60 crutches.
Gao, 60, was born in a mountainous area of Meiling Township. Wanli District of Nanchang. After coming down with polio (脊髓灰质炎) at the age of 1, his left leg suffered muscular atrophy, leaving him unable to walk normally. He did not give up,relying instead on his mental strength to finish his studies from primary school through high school.
He started his career in 1977 when a village official visited him about being a teacher in the village, as one of the two teachers there had left. Gao agreed to take the position, for he knew the importance of a teacher to students, especially those like him. The roads were sandy and muddy in the past, “One year, it was snowing, and I walked more than one hour to the school. My colleague helped me half of the way-otherwise, I might have fallen into the gully,” he said.
Gao Yangyao, who worked with Gao Ziren for many years, said that “he has difficulty walking, but he is usually the first to come to school.” Gao Ziren said that because he walked slowly, it was too late for him to visit students’ homes after school, and therefore, he visited them on the weekends.
Now, many children follow their parents to live and study in cities, while some become left-behind children who live in rural areas and lack family care. Gao said it was important to be patient with left-behind children and pay more attention to their mental health. “When rural children lack family education, schools and teachers need to do more in psychological education,” said Li Wu, a principal of Meiling Central School. He said rural areas need more teachers like Gao Ziren.

26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I walked to Mrs. Windsor’s house and waited outside. She was working with another student, and I was not supposed to bother them by ringing the bell. I stood against the wall and daydreamed what I’d rather be doing. I had been tutored enough to read, understand, and even write some musical compositions, but I just didn’t have a gift for it. Mrs. Windsor had offered to give me the lessons for free, so I felt it my duty to try.
The door opened and Wendy Barton came out. I walked in, sat down on the piano bench and began to sort through my sheet music. Today Mrs. Windsor introduced her niece Pasha to teach me.
With a smile, Pasha sat beside me on the piano bench, opened my sheet music to the beginning page and asked me to play. I arranged my fingers on the keys. Then I frowned (皱眉) and concentrated to make the notes on the page match the finger movements. I had to admit I was a rather mechanical (不加思考的) pianist.
After about a page or two, Pasha gently put her hand on top of mine as if to calm my fingers. There was a long pause. “What are you hearing in the music?” I looked at her rather strangely and admitted I didn’t know what she meant. “Like a story. Here, let me try and you listen,” Pasha advised.
She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, letting her fingers dance lightly over the keys. Then, she began to play. “See, it begins here beside some kind of river. Hear the water flowing beside you?” Her fingers rose and fell gently on the keys. “Now a princess appears and she’s picking flowers from the water’s edge.” A happy piece of music filled the air in time to Pasha’s dancing fingers.
注意:续写词数应为150左右。
Suddenly the music changed.
