21、 If you think of the jobs that robots could never do, you would probably put doctors and teachers atop of the list, it's easy to imagine robots and factory workers. But are we underestimating what robots can do?
In some cases, they already do better than doctors at diagnosing illness. Also, some patients might feel more comfortable sharing personal information with a machine than a person. Could there be a place for robots in education after all?
British education expert Anthony Seldom thinks so. He even has a date for the robot takeover of the classroom: 2027. He forecasts that robots will do the main job of disseminating knowledge and teachers will be like helpers. Intelligent robots will read students' faces, movements and even brain signals. Then they will pass the information on to each student in the way he or she can understand.
However, it's not a popular opinion. Most people think it's impossible that robots will have the ability to really connect with humans like another human can.
One thing is certain, though. A robot teacher is better than no teacher at all. In some parts of the world, there aren't enough teachers and 9%—16% of children under the age of 14 don't go to school. That problem could be partly solved by robots because they can teach anywhere.
Being a teacher is a difficult job and teachers often feel overworked. Perhaps the question is not “Will robots replace teachers?” but “How can't robots help teachers?” Teachers spend a lot of time doing non-teaching work, including more than 1 hour a week marking homework. If robots could cut the time teachers spend marking homework and writing reports, teachers would have more time and energy for the parts of the job humans do best.

22、 I grew up in a Midwestern town where the popular wisdom was to only talk about what was pleasant and to keep secrets, if necessary, to make that happen.
This meant staying mum when someone offended you, rarely expressing unpleasant feelings and smiling slightly more than is necessary. It also meant zero room for airing any sort of dirty laundry, especially not the kinds of personal secrets that keep people up.
Many of us like to believe that hiding unpleasant truths might make them eventually go away. Instead, keeping secrets— especially heavy ones— can spin an even more complicated web of loneliness and deception(欺骗) . So why do we do it?
The truth can hurt. But in many situations, it’ s better to get it out and let the recovery start, rather than allowing it to be more harmful.
The burden of holding in the truth doesn’ t just disappear. It hides in the back of your mind and can cause disorder to your life and health.
“ If the situations in your daily life are regular reminders of the secret, and you find it stressful to keep it, then yes, it can have emotional(感情上的) and physical consequences, ” says Dr. Dean McKay.
“ Some people also find keeping secrets stressful out of a general concern they will ‘ slip’ , and this frequent thought of the secret can in itself be stressful. ”
This difficulty is especially worse if you feel trapped by the secret, or if it brings up other unpleasant feelings like guilt, shame or anxiety.
If you do decide that your secrets took your joy away and would be better off being let out into the world, and if that secret doesn’ t put other people in physical danger, there are healthy ways to share it.
【1】What is considered wise for most people in the Midwestern town?
A.Expressing feelings freely. B.Keeping unpleasant truths secret.
C.Answering violence with violence. D.Sharing private matters with friends.
【2】What is a suggested way to deal with the unpleasant situations?
A.To hide your feelings. B.To tell a white lie.
C.To make no response. D.To expose the truth.
【3】What can be inferred about secrets in the text?
A.They are bad for your health. B.They are hardly accepted by people.
C.They bring up more positive feelings. D.They help prevent disorder in your life.
【4】What will probably be talked about in the paragraph that follows?
A.Reasons for holding secrets. B.Ways to share secrets.
C.Doubts about breaking secrets. D.Tips on keeping secrets.
23、It goes without saying, but bears repeating, there are too many cats and dogs without homes. While there are countless shelters and rescue centers that exist, some potential pet owners look to pet shops to find their furry friends. All too often, however, these animals come from puppy and kitten mills (繁殖场) that treat the creatures in cruel ways. San Francisco, however, is doing their part to stop this abuse with pet store adoption. Officials recently voted to ban the sale of non-rescue dogs and cats in local shops.
The effect is two-fold. One, it will stop the popularity of the large-scale mills, which are famous for the miserable conditions cats and does are kept in. Two, it will help facilitate the adoption of thousands of animals that are waiting for their forever homes in San Francisco shelters. District 4 Supervisor Katy Tang, who serves on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, supported law-making on the ban. “Dogs and cats sold in pet stores often come from inhumane puppy and kitten mills that treat animals with no regard for their health or well-being”, she wrote on Facebook. In her message, she also called on the U. S. Agriculture Department to reinstate information on its website that documents these types of animal cruelty cases—it was removed earlier this month.
San Francisco’s law-making is a victory for those concerned about animal rights, and they aren’t the first city to pass this type of measure. Los Angeles, San Diego, Chicago, Philadelphia, Boston, and Austin also have similar laws in place, with hopefully more places to follow suit.
【1】What happened to some dogs and cats before they got in the pet stores?
A. They were treated cruelly.
B. They were abandoned in streets.
C. They received warm welcome.
D. They were raised in shelters and rescue centers.
【2】Which of the following may Katy Tang agree with most?
A. People should adopt the dogs and cats.
B. Animals are too cruel to humans being.
C. Government can choose to kill all the dogs and cats.
D. It is not right to ban the sale of non-rescue dogs and cats in local shops.
【3】What does the underlined word “reinstate” in Paragraph 2 mean?

C. post again D. download

C. Americans care about animals more than humans.
D. More and more cities are involved in animal rights.
24、 Believe it or not, 43,000,000 Americans are gardening. That is about one in six. Gardeners, of course, come in many varieties.
Abhi Arora used to be in the tech field. Like so many people, he sat at a desk all day, staring at a screen. Due to the stress of always staying indoors and in front of a computer, he started getting anxiety issues. To recharge and refresh, he visited a local garden in California. He noticed the shift in his mood, emotions, and improvement in his mental health overall during each visit.
Arora became friends and later business partners with the garden’s owner, farmer Rishi Kumar. Kumar studied computer science in college but became obsessed with plants and gardening. He now runs Sarvodaya Farms in Pomona, California. “Rishi and I met an old man who was healing himself and his son through the power of gardens. It was then that I realized that we could help others feel the same connection to the healing power of gardens,” Arora says. The two co-founded Healing Gardens, an online marketplace where people can rent their organic urban gardens or farms for use by the hour.
“I’ve always had a love for plants and wildlife, so with Healing Gardens we want to bring easy access to the wellness benefits of nature to our community and at the same time do our part in regenerating our planet,” Arora says.
Healing Gardens is based on the simple idea that most people enjoy being surrounded by plants and animals. A healing garden is a restorative outdoor space that has been specifically designed to steer the restless mind away from circling thoughts and towards the presence of the senses.
In addition to offering private time for visitors to just spend time alone in the garden or at the farm, individual hosts may also offer events and activities like yoga classes, mediation sessions, and goat petting for kids. Beautiful imagery, luscious smells, birdsongs, and more, gently invite the guest at a Healing Garden to presence.
【1】How did Arora feel after he visited local gardens?
A.More stressed.
B.More anxious.
C.More emotional.
D.More relaxed.
【2】What’s the purpose of founding the Healing Gardens?
A.To earn more money.
B.To offer leisure places.

D.To bring the benefits of nature to people.
【3】What do we know about the Healing Gardens?
A.Recovery rooms are available.
B.People can spend time alone for free.
C.A wide variety of activities are provided.
D.People can enjoy performances by trained animals.
【4】Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
