二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、Exchanging old-fashioned postcards with random strangers around the world is great fun. And for me, it’s sending not just any postcard, but one in particular that seems to resonate (共鸣) with people everywhere.

The Postcrossing project was created by Paulo Magalhaes in 2005. He liked getting mail — especially postcards. He thought others did, too — but how could he connect with them? That’s when he came up with the idea of an online platform (postcrossing. com). There, postcard lovers like me can sign up to send a postcard to someone who has registered (注册) online, and receive a postcard in return.

Along with a randomly selected address, participants get a unique code to put on the postcard. When the postcard arrives, the recipient registers that code with the site, which then causes the sender’s address to be given to another Postcrosser in turn. In practice, this means that for nearly every postcard I send (a few get lost in the mail) I get one back. And since I never know who will be sending me a card or where in the world they live, every trip to the mailbox holds the potential for a wonderful surprise.

At the last count, there were more than 690,000 Postcrossers in 211 countries, representing nearly every race and religion on the planet — and the cards they’d like to receive are nearly as diverse. I’ve seen requests for postcards featuring maps, animals, Benedict Cumberbatch (an actor), and the color green. But no matter how lengthy or unusual a particular Postcrosser’s list of requests may be, somewhere, in nearly every card, is a sentence like this: “Please send me a card that represents something unique or special about your country.”

I love to see that request. To me, the opportunity to share what I love most about my country and to learn what other people love most about theirs is the heart and soul of this activity.

【1】Why did Paulo set up the online platform?

A.To show his love to mail.

    B.To connect with the author.

    C.To get postcards from strangers.

D.To make friends around the world.

【2】What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about?

A.How people sign up for the platform.

    B.Why the online platform succeeds.

    C.What the online platform provides.

    D.How the online platform works.

【3】How does the author feel on the way to get his card?

    A.Surprised and shocked.

    B.Curious and eager.

    C.Nervous and expected.

    D.Upset and unusual.

【4】What does the author think of the Postcrossing project?

A.It’s an activity about sharing and communicating.

B.It’s a request to make people share their cultures.

C.It’s a way of learning about a new country.

D.It’s an opportunity to know more people.

  • 27、   Who made the ABC song? Some people say a man named Charles Bradlee made the song. He was the first person to say he owned it. That was in 1834. Bradlee called the song “The Schoolmaster”. A schoolmaster is an old name for a teacher. No one knows where it came from. But we do have some clues.

    Sounds Like Another Song

The ABC song sounds the same as “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”. It has the same tune, or music. It sounds like “Baa Baa Black Sheep”, too. Try singing each song. Sing them in a row. You can hear for yourself! The tune was first printed in 1761. It didn’t have any words. No one knows who wrote it. Later, a woman wrote the words for “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”. Her name was Jane Taylor. She lived in England. She wrote the words in 1806. Mozart was a very famous composer. He wrote a piece of music in 1785. It sounds a lot like the ABC song!

    We Learn Better From Songs

When the ABC song first became popular, few children went to school. Most people did not learn how to read. They did not learn how to write, either. As time went on, this changed. More people needed to know how to read and write. More children started learning the ABC song. It helped them remember the letters.

Why do we sing the ABC song? We could just read it quietly. Or we could say it without singing. Why is the song partly important? The answer is related to how we learn. Children have always leaned from grown-ups. But 200 year ago, most people couldn’t read or write. Children had to remember things. They could not write down what they learned. They could not read about it later. So it was important to remember. Songs helped people remember. People sang songs that told stories. They taught their children what they knew through songs.

So, no none really knows who made the ABC song. We do know that this song is popular today. Most children who learn to speak English will sing it. Then they will remember their letters!

1How is the passage mainly developed?

    A.By comparing. B.By listing facts.

    C.By telling a story. D.By examining differences.

    2Who made the ABC song?

    A.Charles Bradlee B.Jane Taylor.

C.Mozart. D.No one knows the answer exactly.

3Which of the following is not true about the importance of songs?

A.Songs help children remember the letters.

    B.Songs told stories.

C.People can teach what they know to children through songs.

D.Songs help people have a happy life.

4Why the Question “Who made the ABC song?” is used in the beginning?

A.To test the readers. B.To show the song is important.

C.To introduce the topic. D.To analyze the cause and effect.

  • 28、Ever since I graduated from high school I've worked in the factories surrounding my hometown every summer. However, making the transformation between school and full-time blue-collar work during the break never gets any easier. For a student like me who considers any class before noon to be unacceptable, getting to a factory by 6 o'clock each morning is suffering. My friends never seem to understand why I'm so relieved to be back at school or that my summer vacation has been anything but a vacation.

There are few people as self-confident as a college student who has never been out in the real world. People of my age always seem to overestimate the value of their time and knowledge. In fact, all the classes did not prepare me for my battles with the machine I ran in the plant, which would jam whenever I absent-mindedly put in a part backward or upside down.

The most stressful thing about blue-collar life is knowing your job could disappear over night. Issues like being laid off and overseas relocation had always seemed distant to me until my co-workers told me that the unit I was working in would shut down within six months and move to Mexico, where people would work for 60 cents an hour.

After working 12-hour shifts (轮班) in a factory, the other optionshave become only too clear. " This job pays well, but it's hell on the body, " said one co-worker. " Study hard and keep reading. " she added. When I'm back at the university, skipping classes and turning in lazy re-writes seems too irresponsible after seeing what I would be doing without school. All the advice and public-service announcements about the value of an education that used to sound stale (陈腐的) now ring true.

My experiences in the factories have inspired me to make the most of my college years before I enter the real world for good.

【1】What does the author think of his summer holiday?

A.It was no holiday for him at all.

B.It brought him nothing but suffering.

C.It was a relief from his hard work at school.

D.It offered him a chance to make more friends.

【2】What can we infer about most college students?

A.They do better in the real world.

B.They are confident when they work.

C.They think too highly of themselves.

D.They are expert at handling machines.

【3】What is the biggest pressure for blue-collar workers?

    A.A low income

    B.The lack of security

    C.An unstable location

    D.Less break

【4】How did the working experiences change the author?

A.He became responsible for his work.

B.He learned to be more practical at work.

C.He began to respect blue-collar workers.

D.He came to appreciate his college education.

  • 29、   US cosmologist (宇宙学家) Carl Sagan once said: “Across the sea of space, the stars are other suns.”

For centuries, human beings have dreamed of traveling into space, orbiting (围绕......运行) our little blue planet, and appreciating incredible views of sunrises and sunsets. And soon, it seems that our dream will finally come true, as US startup Orion Span announced on April 6 that it planned to launch the first hotel in space in 2021. It will be ready to welcome guests the following year.

The space hotel, Aurora Station, will orbit 320 kilometers above Earth, circling it every 90 minutes. It’s capable of housing two crew members and four guests. The crew members will likely be former NASA astronauts who worked on the International Space Station. However, there’s a catch: Each guest must pay at least $9.5 million (60 million yuan) for a 12-day stay at the hotel.

Once aboard the Aurora Station, guests will find many exciting things to do. According to Orion Span, guests can enjoy the excitement of zero-gravity as they fly throughout the space hotel. They can watch 16 sunrises and sunsets every day and view the northern and southern auroras (极光) through the many windows. They can take part in research experiments like growing food, and even take it home as a souvenir. And they can stay in touch with their families and friends via a high-speed internet connection.

But most importantly, the trip will offer a real sense of what it’s like to live in space. “The premise (前提) of Aurora Station is for guests to live, feel, and [breathe] what it’s like to be an astronaut,” Frank Bunger, founder of Orion Span, told the Robb Report. “The food and drinks are freeze-dried products. It’s not going to be five-star dining … Fire and gas don’t work the same way in space as they do on Earth.”

To better prepare guests for space travel, the company will require a health screening and provide a three-month training program that helps guests understand basic spaceflight, orbital mechanics (轨道力学) and life in the pressurized environment of space.

Some may have doubts about the project, but the company even has plans to turn part of Aurora Station into private apartments. “Future Aurora owners can live in, visit, or sublease (转租) their space [apartment],” Bunger said in a news release. “This is an exciting frontier (待开发的领域) and Orion Span is proud to pave the way.”

1What can we learn about Aurora Station?

A.It will be open to guests in 2021. B.It can only serve four guests at a time.

C.It costs every guest $9.5 million a week. D.It will invite NASA to train the guests.

2What can guests do on Aurora Station?

A.View beautiful auroras. B.Fly outside the space hotel.

    C.Buy various souvenirs. D.Enjoy five-star meals.

3According to Bunger, what is the main purpose of Aurora Station?

A.To help people learn more about space.

B.To offer comfortable space travel experiences.

C.To provide real experiences of living in space.

D.To prepare people for future space exploration.

4What can be inferred about Aurora Station from the last two paragraphs?

A.It’s ready for guests to book their first trip.

B.Few people are optimistic about its future.

C.Its guests must have a basic knowledge of space travel.

D.Private apartments are the most popular choice among its guests.
