四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、

It was the end of June and school was finished. ‘It seems like the end of everything, doesn’t it?’ said Diana. She started crying. ‘Stop it or I’ll cry again. I don’t think I will pass this exam,’ said Anne. ‘Yes, you will. I want to go with you, imagine how much fun it will be.’‘Yes, but I will have to study a lot. It was so nice of your Aunt Josephine to ask me to stay at her house,’ said Anne. ‘You’ll write to me, won’t you?’ asked Diana. Anne went to Aunt Josephine’s house on Monday. On Wednesday Diana went to the post office. There was a letter from Anne.

    Dear Diana,

It’s Tuesday night and I’m writing this from Aunt Josephine’s house. Last night I was really lonely in my room without you.

This morning I went to the Academy. There were lots of students. People were doing funny things before the exam. One boy was talking to himself.

Then we went into the exam. Some of the girls looked so relaxed. My heart was beating so quickly. Then we did the English exam. Diana, I felt like I did four years ago when I asked Marilla about staying at Green Gables. In the afternoon we had a history exam. I think I did OK. But Diana, tomorrow we have geometry. I am worried about that.

The exams finished and Anne went home on Friday evening. She was very tired and happy. Diana was waiting.

‘It’s wonderful to see you. I miss you. Did you do well?’ asked Diana.

‘I think so, except with geometry. I don’t think I passed. It’s so good to be back. Green Gables is the best place in the world,’ said Anne.

‘When do you get the results?’ asked Diana.

‘In two weeks. They’ll be in the newspaper. Two weeks of waiting,’ said Anne.

    ‘You’ll pass. Don’t worry.’

‘I want to pass with a high score or not at all,’ said Anne. She seemed angry.

Diana understood that Anne wanted a high score than Gilbert.

Anne and Gilbert were in competition with each other. They saw each other but didn’t speak. It was like they were strangers. Anne secretly wished that she was friends with Gilbert again. But she also wanted to get a higher score than him in the exam. Everyone thought Gilbert was going to get the highest score. She wanted to make Matthew and Marilla proud. Well mostly Matthew.

The results were late. Finally after three weeks of waiting, they arrived. Diana came running to the house with a newspaper.

‘Anne, you’ve passed. You and Gilbert. You’re equal firsts,’ said Diana.

Anne took the newspaper. Yes, their names were at the top of a list of two hundred pupils.

    A.Two days.

  • 25、Our eyes can deal with 36, 000 bits of information every hour, many messages for our brain to connect with the world around us. We often say that we eat with our five senses. So what happens if we eat with our eyes closed? Would we enjoy food in the same way?

    Eating with eyes closed

Since years ago, some restaurants offer to eat meals with eyes closed, a special experience to “reconnect with food” in a different way. The lack of senses like eye-sight helps us pay more attention to what we are eating. Those who take the challenge say the taste of many meals becomes stronger.

Playing with these feelings is possible from our home or even right now. If we think about a lemon, our brain sends orders to make our mouths water, as a natural reaction of our bodies to the acid flavor(酸味). It also happens if we smell a BBQ in the garden of a neighbor. We probably wish a burger badly when we smell it .

Thinking about eating less? This may help. Eating with our eyes closed can make us think we are eating more than we actually are. A German study gave ice-creams to several students. Part of them with their eyes closed ate fewer before they were full than the students who could see. Even though this cannot be a definite way to weight loss, meals can be funnier for sure.

    Enjoy with our five senses

Sight may be an influence when we have to choose what to eat or even how much. We will probably eat more in a comfortable restaurant than in front of our computer at work. Color and presentation of the food matters too. Supermarkets usually put products with lively colors at eyelevel. In many cases, stores add extra colors to food to make it look better. But that does not mean they are healthier at all.

Are any other senses involved when we eat? Yes! If we listen to a cook telling us how wonderful the recipe of those fish and chips is, we will probably think it’s the best fast food we have had so far. In the end, everything is important for the complete enjoyment of a meal.

【1】What does the underlined “it” refer to in paragraph 3?

    A.The BBQ.

    B.The lemon.

    C.The garden.

    D.The acid flavor.

【2】Eating with eyes closed will probably make ________.

    A.people funnier

    B.ice-cream taste better

    C.people healthier

    D.the taste of food stronger

【3】What does the underlined word “involved” in the last paragraph mean?

    A.Learning to eat.

    B.Learning to cook.

    C.Taking part in eating.

    D.Taking part in cooking.

【4】What does the passage mainly tell us?

    A.We are what we eat.

B.We eat with our five senses.

C.Our health depends on what we eat.

D.Eating with eyes closed becomes popular.

  • 26、Can you understand the following words?  “Long time no see.”  “Good good study, day day up.” “I like your smile, but unlike you put your shoes on my face.”

Yes, we call these examples Chinglish, like “people mountain, people sea”

Chinglish usually means English vocabulary with Chinese grammar on street signs or products.

However, many English speaking tourists love them. Tom has been living in Beijing for years. “I think many Chinese people dislike Chinglish. But I love it. It's quite interesting. I think if the translations of English in China are all perfect, something will be lost from Chinese culture.” However, Chinglish will probably become a part of history in future. Beijing has made a plan to correct Chinglish within(之内) five years. “It is so funny to see Chinglish on the signs. And they are a kind of trouble for communication between the Chinese and foreigners,” a Beijinger said.

However, some people in China like Chinglish. They think that English has “borrowed” a lot from other languages such as German, French and Spanish in the past, and now as Chinese's turn.

1What is Chinglish according to the passage?

    A. The English words easy to pronounce.   B. The Chinese words difficult to translate.

    C. The English words with Chinese grammar.   D. The Chinese words that foreigners love.

2What does “people mountain, people sea” mean most probably?

    A. There are many people.   B. Humans are powerful.

    C. All the people are running.   D. Humans respect nature.

3What does Tom think about Chinglish?

    A. It shows Chinese are popular. B It is hated by all foreign tourists.  C. It helps him to learn English well. D. It is also a part of Chinese culture.

4The last paragraph but one (倒数第二段) tells us that Beijing will________.

    A. put English words into Chinese   B. change English and Chinese

    C. help foreigners to learn Chinglish   D. correct Chinglish in future

5Some people, who love Chinglish, think that it is time for English to borrow something from ________.

    A. French   B. Chinese   C. Spanish   D. German

    Dear Aunt Tara,

I have a problem with my homework. We have to do it in a group. It has to be finished this Friday, but Gary, the boy in our group, has done nothing helpful. He just keeps rocking_the_boat. Someone has to do it for him again. What's worse is when Ms Lin asks about our group, Gary always tells her that we others don't work hard enough. I'm really mad at Gary about this. We're in the same group. Shouldn't we help each other to do a better job?

    Kate

    Dear Kate,

It is important for students to learn how to work together in a group. Maybe you should talk to Gary about the problem and tell him you all need his help. If he still doesn't change, go and talk to your teacher. I believe she can make Gary do his job.
