  • 25、On May 23,Shenzhen introduced tough new rules in order to discourage the “Chinese style of crossing the road”.“Chinese people cross roads without thinking about traffic lights,so long as they are part of a crowd,” said a post on Sina Weibo.

A CCTV news program showed that in only an hour, more than 600 people jumped red lights when crossing a road in Shijiazhuang,Hebei.

Many people say that they jaywalk(乱穿马路) because the red light lasts too long.Such an opinion is supported by a research team at Tongji University.The_team did research on people's waiting times at different road crossings for three years. They found that Chinese people would wait for 70 to 90 seconds() before they lost their patience.“People are likely to ignore(忽视) the light when the waiting time is longer than they can bear,” said Ni Ying,a member of the research team.

  • 26、E-waste is fast becoming a serious problem around the world. This report will examine this problem and provide some possible ways to solve it.

We live in a society that is producing and using electronics* all the time. It is often cheaper to buy new products than to repair old ones. Also, through clever advertising, companies always encourage people to change their old TVs, mobile phones and computers for the latest. E-waste is created when we throw away old ones. In the EU alone, about 8,700,000 tons of e-waste is produced each year. Sadly, just over 1,000,000 tons is recycled*.

Burying* e-waste or burning it causes serious problems for the environment. Electronics have dangerous things in them. These things can then get into the ground or pollute the air when they are burnt.

In recent years,    . However, their plans are not always managed properly. Sometimes electronics are just sent to poor countries such as Ghana. Here they are often burnt in public areas, which is very bad for people’s health. Setting up recycling centers is a good way to solve this problem. E-cycling centers could recycle the parts that can be reused and deal with the rest properly.

Another way is to make producers responsible* for their used products. This means that producers must take back old products which are no longer wanted. They should then make sure they are properly recycled or reused.

As for us, we should try to cut down on e-waste. Change electronics only when we have to. And don’t buy a product just to have the latest model.

E-waste is a serious problem in the modern world. Both producers and users must take actions and try to keep it to the smallest amount.

【1】 According to the passage, it is often to buy new electronics than to repair old ones.

    A. more expensive   B. more difficult

    C. cheaper D. worse

【2】In the passage the underlined word they refers to   ”.

    A. the old products B. the producers

    C. the users       D. the new products

【3】Which of the following is the best for the blank_________ in Paragraph 4?

    A. the e-waste problem has been solved

    B. the e-waste problem continues growing

    C. many countries have started recycling e-waste

    D. people haven’t realized the e-waste problem yet

【4】 Which sentence shows the writer’s opinion?

    A. Burning e-waste caused problems for the environment.

    B. E-waste problem is very serious and people should take actions.

    C. Sometimes electronics are sent to poor countries such as Ghana.

    D.  In the EU alone, about 8,700,000 tons of e-waste is produced each year.

  • 27、When we think of paper, we think of newspapers and books. But there are many other uses. Only half of the world’s paper is used for books and newspapers.

Paper is very good for keeping you warm. In Finland, it is sometimes -40℃ in winter. The farmers wear paper boots (靴子) in the snow. Nothing could be warmer.

Each year, more and more things are made of paper. We have had paper cups and plates for a long time. But now we hear that chairs, tables and even beds can be made of paper. Besides paper boots and shoes, you can wear paper hats, paper dresses and paper raincoats. When you have used them once, you may throw them away and buy new ones.

The latest use of paper seems to be paper houses. These are not small houses for children to play in, but real, big houses for people to live in. You can buy a house with three rooms for about 500 dollars.

【1】Most of the world’s paper is used to print newspapers and books.

【2】Nothing could be warmer than paper boots when the temperature is -40℃ in Finland.

【3】After you use a paper raincoat, you may throw it away.

【4】The paper houses mentioned in the passage are made for children to play in.

【5】The passage is about the invention of paper.
