    Great BDIA—Beijing Daxing International Airport

Have you ever taken a flight from Beijing Daxing International Airport (BDIA)? It drew attention not just for convenient and environmentally friendly design, but also for its many high-tech facilities(设施) and services.

The new airport, designed by the famous Iraqi-British architect   ( 建筑师) Zaha Hadid. The Daxing airport’s technology centers on passengers’ safety and convenience. The airport was designed in a special way that makes it look like a starfish. This kind of design also helps to shorten the walking distance for passengers.

The airport has also been designed to be environmentally friendly. It uses natural light during the day. Thanks in part to 8,000 rooftop windows, the sunlight can shine directly into the building.

There are less than 10,000 lights in the terminal. The brightness of the lights can be changed according to the temperature inside and how many people are in the building. The lights use 70 percent less power than the lights of the Beijing Capital International Airport, which uses more than 20,000 lights. This can save about 8,850 tons of coal and reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions ( 排 放 ) by 22,000 tons a year, China Daily reported.

The airport has many new technologies that make it smarter and more efficient. It is the world’s first airport with a double-deck departure and arrival (双进双出) design for its building. “Passengers use much less time than they do in any other large airport t of the same size in the world,” Guo Yanchi, the leading engineer in charge of building, told China Daily.

According to the Civil Aviation Administration   of China, 86 percent of check-ins can be done through self-service check-in kiosks and 76 percent of luggage can be checked automatically (自动地) with the help of self-service bag-drop machines. Other technologies, such as a facial recognition system, allow passengers to have a quicker check-in and boarding process.

The airport will also use a robot-operated parking system. Drivers just need to park their cars in given areas. Robots will then carry them to an empty space. When collecting their cars, drivers simply need to scan (扫描) a parking ticket to find out where to collect their cars.

【1】Why do we say BDIA’s design is friendly to our environment?

A.The building of the airport doesn't cost not too much.

B.It can save energy and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

C.The design helps to shorten the walking distance for passengers.

    A.Robots will help passengers board.

B.Passengers won’t need to check in in person.

C.Passengers will spend less time boarding at BDIA.

  • 25、What do you think is the most important invention(发明)in the world? The TV? The printing? The telephone? Or the computer? A report shows that they are not the only important inventions. Here are three other important inventions.

One of the simplest inventions is the toilet. Before toilets, waste ran into rivers from people's houses .Illnesses were common in big cities, and it was often difficult to find clean drinking water.

Animal food is another important invention. Before the invention, most animals were killed every autumn because there was not enough food for them in winter. After hay(干草) became a kind of common animal food, animals could live through the long winter.

The third great invention is glasses. Glasses help people read, write and do "close work" after age of 45. Without glasses, the world would be difficult for the people above 45.

  • 26、Travelling with kids is 90 percent reminding yourself to live in the moment and 10 percent making up your mind to never again leave your house.

I have an uncanny ability to forget this as soon as we return home from a trip and I’ve finished washing piles of dirty clothes in our luggage and cleaning all the mess caused by the kids. Extremely tired and annoyed, I would actually begin to miss the place we just left!

Family travel is like childbirth, I suppose. Painful, loud, messy, sort of awful, actually, but also wonderful. And you remember only the wonderful—until you’re back on a plane and your kids are fighting over who gets the aisle(通道)seat. Then you remember the bad stuff.

Last weekend, my kids and I flew to Texas for a trip we would have nothing to complain about—big hotel, wonderful view.

And yet—we found things to complain about(抱怨). The pool was bigger in that other hotel! Why do you get to shower first? They call this coffee? Luckily, I’ve learned to put my metaphorical coat of armor(隐喻盔甲外衣)on as soon as we land somewhere, and it forces complaints to bounce off me and land in a pile at my feet.

For three days, genuine fun was had and annoying complaints were heard and ignored, until it was time to catch a plane and fly home.

Unfortunately, our flight was canceled. We spent hours finding a hotel room. We hit the hotel pool before bed and swam well into the night, my kids making up songs and laughing so hard at their silly lyrics and their crazy good fortune to be swimming at 10: 30 on a school night.

And that was when it hit me that family travel is all those things I said before but it’s also a lot more. It’s taking your kids to parts of the world that will open their eyes and finding that actually, yours need opening too. It’s remembering that joy and memories are where you make them, not where you find them.

【1】The underlined word “uncanny” in Paragraph 2 is closest in meaning to “________”.

    A.unknown

    B.uncertain

    C.unexpected

    D.unusual

【2】According to the passage, family travel is like childbirth in that ________.

A.they both cause financial trouble and pain

B.they are both hard as well as rewarding

C.both of them need many preparations

D.chrildhood memories come flooding back when they travel

【3】By saying “I’ve learned to put my metaphorical coat of armor on”, the writer means that ________.

A.she tries to deal with the complaints more wisely and properly

B.she turns those annoying complaints into a means of educating kids

C.she has improved her language skills when handling the complaints

D.she has succeeded in escaping kids’ fighting thanks to the armor

【4】From the writer’s experience in the passage, we can NOT learn that ________.

A.family vacation benefits her kids as well as herself

B.joy and memories should be created rather than discovered

C.the most unforgettable memory for her is about the complaints

D.she has to spend some time on housework after the family vacation

【5】What is the writing purpose of the passage?

    A.To describe an unforgettable travelling.

B.To tell people unexpected things always happen.

C.To complain about the annoying travelling experience.

D.To remind people joyful memories lie in where you make them.

  • 27、At 39 weeks pregnant(怀孕的)most women would only be thinking of racing to hospital. But not Amber Miller, who set off to run the Chicago Marathon(芝加哥马拉松赛), while expecting her second child any day.

As she neared the final stage of the race, she began to feel pain in the stomach. But the determined athlete managed to cross the finish line in 6 hours and 25 minutes.

Unbelievably the Chicago race was not even baby June’s first marathon-Miller ran the Wisconsin Marathon earlier this year, four months pregnant. She also ran another marathon when she was about four months pregnant with her son, Caleb. Although there was extra weight, the seasoned runner’s time was just 3 hours off her personal best.

Miller began to feel pain near the end of the race, but she was not sure if it was labor (分娩),   because she typically feels some pain when she runs while pregnant. After her race, her husband drove her to Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield where she gave birth to the healthy baby weighing 7 pounds and 13 ounces (盎司).

Miller decided to run because she and her husband had already signed up for the race. The athletic mother said she experienced an enthusiastic welcome from crowds as she ran along. But the devoted runner, who had completed eight marathons, admitted(承认)that she did get a few strange looks along the course.

“I know what I can handle. This is something I’ve been doing for a long time,” the experienced marathon runner said.

June was born at 10:29 p.m. on Sunday night after seven hours’ labor. “She’s absolutely perfect,” Miller said. “We are extremely happy, but very tired.”

After her surprising double achievement, Miller says she is planning to take some time off to concentrate(专注)on being a full-time mom.

【1】What can we learn from the passage?

A.Miller failed to finish the race because of her labor.

B.Miller’s husband was against her running the race.

C.Miller knew she was going to give birth at the end of the race.

D.It wasn’t Miller’s first time to run a marathon while pregnant.

【2】What is the name of Miller’s kid born right after the Chicago Marathon?

    A.Caleb.

    B.June.

    C.Amber.

    D.Wisconsin.

【3】What can be inferred (推断)from the passage?

A.People have different attitudes to Miller’s action.

B.Miller will soon return to her favorite marathons.

C.The baby was in danger at birth because of the race.

D.Miller’s personal best in marathons was over 6 hours.

【4】What is the best title of the passage?

A.A young American couple loving marathons

B.How to finish the latest Chicago Marathon

C.A pregnant woman giving birth after a marathon

D.How to train a pregnant woman for marathons
