25、 I'm writing this article in China, far away from my home in the United States. You might wonder what I do to remember my mom on Mother’s Day. Well, I certainly call her to say “Happy Mother’s Day” and promise that I will visit home soon.
I still remember the first time I forgot Mother’s Day. When I finally figure it out, I asked, “Why does mom get a special holiday? Why isn’t there a Children’s Day!”
My mom explained, in that way that only moms seem to be able to explain, “Because every day is Children's Day!”
I knew that I had messed up. I thought about all the time and love my mom had given me. I thought about the food she had made, the toys she had bought and the long hours she had spent with me. There might not be a perfect mom’s love, which can fix anything. After that day, for 364 days, I was looking forward to the next Mother’s Day.
That was the first year I forgot Mother’s Day. It was also the last year I forgot.
Are you wondering what to do for your mom on Mother’s Day? Common things are to write a message that thanks for the love she has given you, send her a card or buy her a gift. But the most important thing is — DON’T FORGET!
【1】How does the writer celebrate Mother’s Day this year?
A.He calls his mom. B.He send his mom a card. C.He visits home to see his mom
【2】What might the underlined phrase “figure out” mean?
A.make clear B.make progress C.make mistakes
【3】Why did the writer begin to look forward to the next?
A.Because he missed his mom far in the United States
B.Because he wanted to spend more time with his mom
C.Because he realized he had got much care from his mom
【4】What is the purpose(目的) of the passage?
A.To explain why there isn’t a Children’s Day
B.To advise us not to forget to keep our own promises
C.To remind us to remember the love mom has given us.
【5】Which is the best title for the passage?
A.An Interesting Talk B.An Important Day C.An Expensive Gift
26、 Do you know where J.K. Rowling wrote the Harry Potter books? She wrote the first books in a coffee shop. Was it because she felt more creative when working there? The answer might be yes!
Scientists from the University of Illinois found that moderate (适度的) noise can make people more creative, the New York Times reported.
Scientists did tests on students. They divided them into four groups. They then asked the students to do certain tasks involving creative thinking. But each group did the task with different volumes (音量) of background noise.
They found that students did best when working under moderate noise —70 decibels (分贝). This is about the same volume of background noise in a cafe. Students did worse in low noise (50 db). This is the volume of a quiet room. They did the poorest when in a high-noise (85 db) environment. This is the noise level in a factory.
Moderate noise can distract (分心) people just enough so that they think more creatively. “It helps you think outside the box,” Raci Mehta, a lead researcher in the study, said to the Business Standard.
On the one hand, working in a very quiet place can strengthen our focus. But it also stops us from thinking abstractly (抽象地).
“This is why if you are too focused on a problem and you can’t solve it,” said Mehta, “You leave it for some time and then come back to it and you get the solution.”
However, the scientists said that when you need to do detailed things, like proofreading (校对) a paper, a quiet place is better than a noisy one.
【1】What can we tell from the first paragraph?
A.J.K. Rowling likes drinking coffee. B.Drinking coffee helps people become creative.
C.The best novels are born in coffee shops. D.Moderate noise makes people creative.
【2】The underlined word “involving” in Paragraph 3 can be replaced by the word “________”.
A.referring to B.including C.in order to D.even
【3】Which volume of background noise helps students do the best at creative tasks?
A.85 db. B.70 db. C.50 db. D.0 db.
【4】Which of the following is TRUE when working in a very quiet place?
A.It can help people think outside the box. B.It can make people think abstractly.
C.It can help people find the solution easily. D.It can help people focus on their work.
【5】What is the main idea of the story?
A.How to work under a moderate noise level.
B.Why J. K. Rowling likes to write stories in a coffee shop.
C.Why moderate noise is good for creative thinking.
D.How scientists tested students’ learning abilities.

Chinese scientists have released a new geologic map of the moon. They say it is the world’s most detailed map of the moon’s surface to date. The mapping project took more than a hundred researchers 10 years to complete.
The mapping work used data from the Chang’e missions as the main source. It also used high-quality data from international exploration programmes. China started the Chang’e programme in 2004. Since then, the country has sent various landers and rovers (探测器) to the moon in order to collect data.
The new map was drawn at a scale of 1: 2, 500, 000. On this map, we can see 12, 341 impact craters (撞击坑), 81 impact basins (撞击盆地), 17 different rock types and 14 unique types of structures. The map also shows the locations of the leading sites of the Chang’e missions.
The most detailed map provides a lot of information about the geology of the moon and its evolution. It is expected to make a great contribution to scientific research. It can also help select the landing sites on the moon for future exploration missions.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has made a number of regional maps of the moon with data from the Apollo missions. However, those maps were completed at different times with different levels of quality. So they were not able to be directly used together. The Apollo programme succeeded in preparing and landing the first humans on the moon between the years of 1968 and 1972.
“The USGS did put its regional maps together to complete a 1:5 million-scale map in 2020,” said the researchers. “That map, however, is less detailed in comparison to China’s 1: 2.5 million scale map.”
【1】Which word can be used to best describe the mapping work?
A.Simple.
B.Boring.
C.Difficult.
D.Surprising.
【2】What can we learn about the new map?
A.It was drawn at a scale of 1: 250, 000.
B.It is more detailed than the map by the USGS.
C.It provides some information about the earth’s evolution.
D.It shows the locations of the leading sites of the Apollo missions.
【3】What’s the main source of the mapping work?
A.Date from landers and rovers.
B.Date from the Apollo missions.
C.Date from the Chang’e mission.
D.Date from international exploration programmes.
【4】Where is the passage most likely from?
A.A report.
