Bassanio was happy to give him the money. “Here it is,” he said. “I have it ready for you.” He was very pleased that his friend Antonio would not die.
“Wait!” Portia said again. “He does not want the money. It is not written in the contract, and he said he would not do anything that was not written in the contract. Shylock, you can take your pound of flesh, just as the contract says. Why are you waiting?”
Shylock said he just wanted to have his money back. “Just give me the money I lent you. I won’t even ask for interest,” he said. Bassanio was ready to give it to him, but again Portia stopped him. “He said he wanted only the penalty that is in the contract.”
Shylock understood that he would not get his pound of flesh. He understood he would not get his money. He decided to go home.
“Wait!” said Portia, for the third time, “The law of Venice says that if you plan to kill a citizen of Venice, you will lose everything that you own. Half of what you have will belong to the person you tried to kill, and the other half will belong to the duke.”

27、He has millions of students from all around the world. They listen to his classes online but never see his face on the screen. Salman Khan, 42, from the US, is the founder of the learning website Khan Academy(可汗学院).
Unlike other online courses that film teachers giving classes, Khan’s video only use his voice and a digital blackboard for waiting. He says he doesn’t want a human face to distract students. Khan also makes his classes as short as 10 to 15 minutes so that students won’t lose interest. They can also earn (获得) points from taking these classes.
The courses are translated into more than 36 different languages including Chinese. About 80 teachers from the world’s top universities are now also teaching on the website. In 2006, Khan made homemade videos to help his seventh grade cousin with maths. He posted the videos online and got thousands of views. Then Khan decided to make more videos.
As a Bangladeshi-American(孟加拉裔美国人), Khan understands that many kids, especially those in developing countries, cannot get a good education. He himself has three degrees (学位) from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and one from Harvard. He wants to use his knowledge to help more people.
