一、翻译题 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 1、阅读下面的短文,将划线部分译成英文或中文。

Do you have difficulty falling asleep at night? If so, here is a piece of advice for you: Listen to some soft music.

Scientists have found that soft music can help to improve our sleep. This works for sleepers of all ages and even for those with sleeping problems. Soft music can help us fall asleep faster, wake up less during the night and feel more rested in the morning. You may not notice the effects overnight, though. 1. It could take at least three weeks to see improvements.

2.为什么轻音乐能助于我们睡得更好? The reasons aren’t clear yet. It may have something to do with the relaxing effect of a good song. Music can have real physical effects, too. Soft music can lower our heart rate and slow down our breathing. 3.这对我们入睡有好处。

Scientists say that for most people, music that has 70 beats(节拍) per minute works best. Classical, jazz and folk music are usually more effective than other musical styles. Familiar songs work well, too. You may need to experiment to make your own playlists. If you are not sure how many beats a song has in a minute, you may find it out on www.songbpm.com. And remember to get the volume(音量) right. Make sure the final piece is the one that slowly fades out(减弱), 4. if you don’t want to be woken up by the sudden silence.

It’s very important to get enough high-quality sleep. 5. Before you go to bed tonight, play some soft music. Then, just prepare to be rocked off to dreamland!

四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、Ray Carles, a black singer and pianist of the USA, had won 12 Grammy Awards and performed at 10,000 concerts around the world. Many musicians called him simply the Genius (天才).

Ray Charles was born into a poor family, without a father. When he was 5 years old, his younger brother died, and around the same time, Charles started to lose his sight. By the age of 7 he was completely blind. He had already been learning the piano for a year, and when he went blind, his mother knew this would be the only way he would make any money in the future. All his life, Charles remembered her saying, “Do it right, or don’t do it at all.”

Later Charles went to a school for blind and deaf children. There the teachers also encouraged him to study music. Sadly, while he was still at school, his mother died. He left school and in the early 1950s he organized a group of players. He sang, played the piano and wrote music. He made many classical CDs with famous artists such as Elton John and the Beatles.

In 2003 a film of his life Ray was made. The part of Charles was played by a younger actor and musician called Jamie Foxx. The film director brought Foxx to meet Charles. After they had been playing together for two hours, Charles, then aged 73, jumped up and said, “He’s the one... he can do it.” A year later Charles died aged 74. The film of his life has been as popular as his songs and means that the memory of Charles’ music will live on.

B.His teacher thought he was a genius.

C.It would help him get used to being blind.

D.It was a good way for a blind person to get money.

【3】Ray Charles thought that Jamie Foxx was ________.

A.the right person to play him in the film

B.the first person to play him in the film

    C.a good film-maker

    D.a good director

【4】What is the text mainly about?

    C.Becoming a musician.

    D.The master of many styles.

  • 25、A new font(字体)designed by a Finnish software company could make your writing more polite. And hopefully it could help reduce cyberbullying(网络暴力).

Polite Type, developed by TietoEVRY, replaces(代替)harmful language with nicer words. For example, if you type “You are ugly,” it will be replaced with “You are not traditionally beautiful.”

“We want bullies(欺凌者)to rethink the words they use and the influence of the words on others,” said the company manager Kia Haring.

The problem of cyberbullying has been around since the Internet was invented. Nearly everyone who has used the Internet has experienced it.

Polite Type is a good step in the right direction. But how do we really deal with cyberbullying? For one, we can choose to be “invisible(隐形的)”. That is, to surf the Internet without making any personal details or leaving any reviews. This, however, forces us to give up our right to “exist(存在)” online.

We can also choose not to care about bullies. However, this isn’t perfect either, as it can be hard to forget people who are especially cruel(残酷的).

A better way is to block(拦截)and report. If you block someone on social media, they won’t see or make reviews on your posts. Most websites have rules against harmful language. If you report a bully to the website, they will often stop that person from using it. It’s best to take direct action like this.

    【1】What is Polite Type?

    A.A kind of cyberbullying.

    B.A Finnish software company.

C.A font that can rewrite harmful language.

D.An organization that deals with bullies.

【2】According to the second paragraph, if you type “I hate you,” it will be replaced with ________.

    A.You are too silly

B.You are as good as a pig

    C.I disagree with you

    D.You are born foolish

【3】What does the company manager Kia Haring mean in Paragraph 3?

A.Bullies often have good influence on others.

B.Bullies often use polite words to chat online.

C.Bullies should rethink what they are doing.

D.Bullies should express their opinions clearly.

【4】What are the last three paragraphs about?

    A.How cyberbullying influences our life.

B.What we can do to deal with cyberbullying.

C.How Polite Type can protect us from bullying.

D.What rules websites should make to stop bullies.

【5】What does the writer think is the best way to deal with cyberbullying?

    A.To use Polite Type.

    B.To leave no reviews.

    C.To care little about bullies.

D.To block and report a bully.

  • 26、   The World Tourism Organization says that space will soon become a popular place to go on holiday-possibly by 2020. One Japanese company is planning a space holiday centre. It will look like a bicycle wheel and have a very modern hotel for 100 people and a park. It will travel round the Earth at a height of 300km. The company hopes the centre will be ready in 2017. The company manager says he thinks that flying to the centre will probably be quicker than flying from Hong Kong to Singapore. After they arrive at the centre, tourists can take trips to the moon or go for walks in space. What about the cost? Well, the company believes that people will be happy to pay about $100,000f or a trip. But they think that as more people want to go, the trip will become much cheaper.

An American company is also thinking of building a very modern hotel, called the Lunar Hotel, on the moon. Most of the hotel will be under the ground, so it won't become too hot or too cold. The rooms will look just like they do on Earth. The guests will eat normal food for lunch. The cooks will just push a button (按钮) to mix dried food with water to become a meal! There will be little or no dirt (尘土) and there won't be much water. So the hotel won't wash the towels and sheets (床单)-they will be thrown away.

    根据短文内容,判断句子正(T)(F)

1The space holiday center will look like a bicycle wheel.

2Tourists can travel under the ground after they reach the space holiday enter.

3If more people go to spare for holiday, the price of the cost will be higher.

4There might not be any washing machines in the Lunar Hotel.

5Both Japanese and American companies will build a hotel with a park.

  • 27、Steven Stein likes to follow garbage trucks. His strange habit makes sense when you consider that he’s an environmental scientist who studies how to reduce litter, including things that fall off garbage trucks as they drive down the road. What is even more interesting is that one of Stein’s jobs is defending an industry behind the plastic shopping bags.

Americans use more than 100 billion thin film plastic bags every year. So many end up in tree branches or along highways that a growing number of cities do not allow them at checkouts. The bags are prohibited(禁止)in some 90 cities in California, including Los Angeles. Eyeing these headwinds, plastic-bag makers are hiring scientists like Stein to make the case that their products are not as bad for the planet as most people assume.

Among the bag makers’ argument: many cities with bans still allow shoppers to purchase paper bags, which are easily recycled but require more energy to produce and transport. And while plastic bags may be ugly to look at, they represent a small percentage of all garbage on the ground today. The industry has also taken aim at the product that has appeared as its replacement: reusable shopping bags. The stronger a reusable bag is, the longer its life and the more plastic-bag use it cancels out. However, longer-lasting reusable bags often require more energy to make. One study found that a cotton bag must be used at least 131 times to be better for the planet than plastic.

Environmentalists don’t dispute these points. They hope paper bags will be banned(禁止) someday too and want shoppers to use the same reusable bags for years.

【1】What has Steven Stein been hired to do?

    A.Help increase grocery sales.

    B.Recycle the waste material.

    C.Stop things falling off trucks.

D.Argue for the use of plastic bags.

【2】What does the word “headwinds” in paragraph 2 refer to?

    A.Bans on plastic bags.

    B.Effects of city development.

    C.Headaches caused by garbage.

    D.Plastic bags hung in trees.

【3】What is a disadvantage of reusable bags according to plastic-bag makers?

    A.They are quite expensive.

    B.Replacing them can be difficult.

C.They are less strong than plastic bags.

    D.Producing them requires more energy.
