24、 Captain Nemo invited me and my friends to go hunting with him in the forests of Crespo Island. I asked him why he was so interested in Crespo Island. “I thought you preferred the sea to being on land.” “I do,” replied the captain. “But these forests are under the sea.”
After going through a door, we were about ten meters under the water. The light from the sun reached us. Everything looked very colourful. We were going deeper and deeper. At 100 meters deep, we could see quite well, and Captain Nemo stopped and pointed to some dark shapes. This was the forest. “The trees” in the forest were giant seaweed, and all their “branches” were vertical(垂直的). We could not stop looking at them. Fish swam around the branches like birds in a forest.
Suddenly, I saw a large sea spider about a meter tall. It was going to attack me. Captain Nemo's man killed it with his gun, but it reminded me that the sea could be as dangerous as it was beautiful. When we reached 150 meters, it was dark. The sun's light could not reach this depth. We turned our lights. We could see about 20meters around us. Finally, we found Crespo Island—where a steep rock wall rose in front of us.
We could go no further, so we walked back toward the Nautilus. Suddenly, Captain Nemo stopped and shot an animal with his gun, it was a beautiful and rare sea otter. At last, we could see the Nautilus. Several large sharks swam over us. Luckily they didn't see us. We re-entered the Nautilus safely. I was tired but amazed by what I had seen.

25、 Cold weather affects (影响)how our minds and our bodies work. Maybe that is why there are so many expressions that use the word "cold".
For centuries, the body’s blood has to do with the emotions(情绪). People who show no human emotions or feelings, for example are said to be "cold-blooded". Cold-blooded people may do cruel (残忍的) things to others, For example, newspaper says the police are searching for a cold-blooded killer. the killer killed someone, not mistake. He seemed to kill for no reason, and with no emotion, not caring about others’ lives at all. Cold can affect other parts of the body. But the expression "get cold feet" has nothing to do with cold or your feet. The expression means being afraid to do something you have decided to do. The expression "give someone the cold shoulder"probably comes from the physical act of turning your back toward someone, instead of speaking to him face to face. You may give the shoulder to a friend who has hurt you deeply, or to someone who has lied about you to others. "A cold fish" is not a fish. It is a person. But it is a person who is unemotional and show love or warmth. A cold fish does not offer much of himself to anyone. Someone who is a cold fish could be cold-hearted. He or she will never feel sorry for those in bad situations.
"Out in the cold" means not getting something that all other people got. And it is not a pleasant place to be.
【1】According to Paragraph 1, the writer probably agrees that ______.

B.all the English expressions with the word "cold" are not good ones

D.Mary told others Nancy’s secret and Nancy "gave her the cold shoulder"
【4】The passage is mainly about _______.
A.opinions about cold weather
B.expressions connected with "cold”
C.relationship between cold and body

How fit are your teeth? Are you lazy about brushing them? Never fear: An inventor is on the case. An electric toothbrush senses how long and how well you brush, and it lets you track (追踪) your performance on your phone.
The Kolibree toothbrush was exhibited at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week. It senses how it is moved and can send the information to an Android phone or iPhone via a Bluetooth wireless connection.
The toothbrush will be able to teach you to brush right (don’t forget the insides of the teeth!) and make sure you’re brushing long enough. "It’s kind of like having a dentist actually watch your brushing on a day-to-day basis," says Thomas Serval, the French inventor.
The toothbrush will also be able to talk to other applications on your phone, so developers could, for instance, create a game controlled by your toothbrush. You could score points for beating monsters among your teeth. "We try to make it smart but also fun," Serval says.
Serval says he was inspired by his experience as a father. He would come home from work and ask his kids if they had brushed their teeth. They said "yes," but Serval would find their toothbrush heads dry. He decided he needed a brush that really told him how well his children brushed.
The company says the Kolibree will go on sale this summer, for $99 to $199, developing on features. The U.S. is the first target market.
Serval says that one day, it’ll be possible to replace the brush on the handle with a brushing unit that also has a camera. The camera can even examine holes in your teeth while you brush.
【1】Which is one of the feature of the Kolibree toothbrush?
A.It can sense how users brush their teeth.

A.It can be used to update mobile phones.
B.It can be used to play mobile phone games.
C.It can send messages to other users.
D.It can talk to its developers.
【4】What can we infer about Serval's children?
A.They were unwilling to brush their teeth.
B.They often failed to clean their toothbrushes.
C.They preferred to use a toothbrush with a dry head.
D.They liked brushing their teeth after Serval came home.
【5】What can we learn about the future development of the Kolibree?

27、A Man of Vision(视觉)
In 1809, Louis Braille was born in a small town in France. When he was three years old, he accidentally hurt one of his eyes. The sickness spread to his other eye. Later, Louiswas unable to see.
Louis’s parents took him out of schooltwo years later. They thought that there was nothing more for him to learn there. He could not read or write.
When he was ten years old, Louis’s parents sent him to a special school inParis. It was one of the first schools for blind people in the world. Louis learned many skills at this school. Oneof them was reading.
Back then, blind people read by feeling raised letters on the paper. But it was difficult. Too many letters felt the same, for they had similar shapes.
Louis wantedto find a better way for blind people to read. He tried to create a touch system for reading and writing. He believed a system of raised dot(小点)could help. Night Writing-a writing system for soldiers was used. But he didn’t think it was good enough. This system did not allow the fingertip(指尖)to cover a whole letter. The readers had to move their fingers to feel theletter.
After years of hard work, he invented a shorter, easier form of this touch system. He used six dots to form each letter. It allowed a personto feel a whole letter without moving. Blind people could read much faster and easier.
Today, we call this form of written language Braillein honour of Louis Braille.
Louis died in 1852. However, his form of communication lives on. Though he became blind at a young age,he insisted a lot. Instead, he overcame the difficulty, and madea big difference.
