Research teams from the University of Science and Technology of China and the University of Massachusetts Medical School changed the vision(视力) of the test mice. The scientists put special nanoparticles(纳米粒) into the test mice’s eyes. _________ The effect(效应) lasted for around 10 weeks. The scientists said the vision of the mice was not hurt and the eyes did not experience any side effects.

Researcher Dr. Tian Xue explained what he hoped for the future. He said, “Human beings have been trying to develop new technology to make it possible for us to have abilities that are beyond(超越) our natural abilities.” He said future tests could let humans see things in the dark that they cannot see now. 22、 A father and his son went to a kite-flying festival. The son was happy when he saw the sky filled with colorful kites. He wanted to fly a kite, too. The father then bought a kite for his son.
The son started to fly the kite. Soon it was high up in the sky. After a while, the son said, "Dad, it seems that the string(线) is stopping the kite from flying higher. If we cut it, it will be free and fly even higher. Can we cut it?" The father cut the string off the reel(线轴). The kite started to go higher. This made the little boy happy.
But then, the kite started to come down. It soon fell to the ground. The son was surprised to see this. He asked his father, "I thought that after cutting the string, the kite would fly higher. Why did it fall down?"
The father explained, "The string was not stopping the kite from going higher, but was helping it stay in the sky. You use the string to help the kite go up in the right direction. But when you cut the string, it could no longer support(支持) the kite."

Lots of people love chocolate. Do you know how to make it? What does a chocolate factory look like? My class had a field trip to a chocolate factory in Toronto.
We visited an old building in ten groups. In the beginning, we put on some special clothes to make sure that we couldn’t dirty the workplace. After preparation, we went to the second floor and walked into the chocolate-making place. The floor was filled with different kinds of machines. Each machine has a different job. There are only two people working on the floor, because machines do most of the work.
In the next room, we learned about the history of chocolate making. There was a picture of the factory 100 years ago. They had more than 1,000 people working there. The factory is very different now. How greatly the technology is changing our life!
Later, we saw how machines made chocolate. We got a cocoa bean (可可豆), some powdered (粉末的) chocolate and a final chocolate. I opened the cocoa bean and tasted it. It doesn’t taste sweet at all, and it’s like dark chocolate. The best cocoa beans come from South America and Africa. Farmers dry them in the sun. Next, workers cook the beans at a high temperature. Machines took the shells (果壳) off the beans and made the beans into chocolate liquor which looks like water. Then, they put chocolate liquor and sugar together to make dark chocolate. If adding milk, they made milk chocolate. The machine made them smooth like silk.
Finally, we bought some chocolate at a shop in the factory. It was at a very low price. This field trip taught me how important technology is and I also learned a lot of knowledge (知识) about chocolate.
