六、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、Handshakes, kisses, hugging…people all over the world greet each other in different ways. Because of the outbreak of COVID-19, people are changing how they greet each other to stop the virus from spreading(传播). They have come up with some good ways to say hello.

    France

French people love to kiss on the cheek, even between people who have only just met. As kissing and handshaking may spread the virus, a French expert says simply looking into a person’s eyes is good enough as a greeting.

    Australia

Holding your hand out to shake hands is popular in Australia. However, it’s risky at this time. People said they could pat(轻拍) each other on the back.

    Iran

In Iran, a video has gone viral(在网上快速传播的) online. It shows three friends meeting, hands in their pockets, and two of them hitting their feet lightly against each other as a greeting. It seems to be a good way to replace their traditional greetings — handshaking and hugging.

    UAE

A nose-to-nose greeting is popular in the United Arab Emirates(阿拉伯联合酋长国). People there rub (摩擦) their noses together upon meeting or leaving each other’s company. Now UAE’s Health and Prevention Ministry is advising people to stop this traditional greeting. It also said that people shouldn’t shake hands, kiss or hug. Instead, they should greet each other “by moving the hand from side to side only”.

【1】Which of the following is the right way to greet each other in France during the outbreak of COVID-19?

    A.Kissing on each other’s cheek.

    B.Shaking hands with each other.

    C.Looking into each other’s eyes.

D.Patting each other on the back.

    【2】The underlined word “risky” means “ ”.

    A.possible

    B.dangerous

    C.sad

    D.terrible

【3】To prevent the virus from spreading, it is popular to tap each other’s feet to greet in .

    A.France

    B.Australia

    C.Iran

    D.UAE

【4】Which of the following is UAE’s Health and Prevention Ministry’s greeting way?

    A.

    B.

    C.

    D.

【5】What’s the best title of the passage?

A.Greetings during the outbreak of COVID-19

    B.Different ways to say hello

    C.How to keep close contact

D.Why should we change our greeting ways

  • 22、   Classic books never go out of fashion. The book The Outsiders first came out in 1967. Although the book is old, it is still worth reading. It is written by US writer S.E.Hinton.

The book tells the story of a 14-year-old boy called Ponyboy Curtis. He struggles with difficult issues of right and wrong in a society where he is an outsider. The story took place in Oklahoma, US, in 1965.

In the book, the children are divided into two groups. One includes Curtis and Greasers. It is mostly made up of poor kids. They have longer hair and often smoke at a young age. The other group is called the Socs, which is made up of rich children. They wear expensive clothes and drive high-tech cars. Those two groups do not get along well. The book only shows us two weeks of the boys' life.

I was touched by the friendship among the boys. When any of them has a problem, the others will help. Although they are not well educated(教育), they are kind and brave. For example, when Johnny was hurt and in hospital, his friends visited him almost every day. They brought him food and told him interesting stories. I always dream of having a strong friendship like this.

This book shows the good personalities(品质) in those ordinary people. I advise that teenagers read this book and I hope they can enjoy it.

  • 23、The two sessions in Beijing are the talks of the town in China now. The annual session of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC, 中国人民政治协商会议) started on May 21. The annual session of the National People’s Congress (CNPC, 全国人民代表大会) started on May 22.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, some changes took place for this year’s two sessions. Online communication is used for public health, as well as smooth (顺利的)communication for the meetings.

For example, the CPPCC National Committee’s new online platform has been used to collect opinions and suggestions from netizens since May 8. This helped CPPCC members learn more about public opinions before they gathered in Beijing, China Daily reported.

But this year, the officials will attend the meetings through video conferences (会议) and phone calls. Compared to last year, the number of reporters at the two sessions has been cut. Some press conferences (新闻发布会) and interviews with ministers (部长) will be carried out online, Global Times noted.

  • 24、I strongly believe that we can have an important effect on anyone we meet. The right words at just the right time could totally change someone’s life.

Years ago, that’s what happened to me. My life was completely changed because a simple three-word phrase was delivered at the right time in just the right way.

When I was 3 years old, my parents discovered I was totally deaf. After asking many educational specialists, doctors, psychologists(心理学家), and parents of other deaf children, they decided to put me in a “mainstream” school. All of my classmates and teachers would have normal hearing.

From the time I started going there in the third grade, I was the only deaf child at Blue Creek Elementary School in the small, quiet town of Latham, New York. From almost the first day there, the other kids made fun of me and called me names mainly because of my hearing aid(助听器)and the way I talked.

I worried throughout elementary school because, in addition to the problems of “fitting in” with the other students, I also struggled with most of my schoolwork.

Although I seemed outgoing, my self-esteem(自尊心)was quite low. I saw myself as an ugly kid wearing a wired-looking(看上去奇怪的)box around his neck who wasn’t even smart enough to keep up with the other kids.

One morning, she asked the class a question. Mrs. Jordan, my fifth-grade teacher, changed all of that with a simple three-word phrase. Mrs. Jordan was a large woman with a voice that bounced(反弹)off the walls of her tiny classroom.

I read her lips(嘴唇)and immediately raised my hand. For once I knew the answer. But, when she called on me, I was afraid. I took a deep breath and nervously answered Mrs. Jordan’s questions. I will never forget what happened next.

Mrs. Jordan pointed directly at me. With sparkling(闪光的)eyes and a wide smile she cried: “THAT’S RIGHT. STEPHEN!”

For the first time in my young life, I was an instant star(一举成名的人). My confidence soared(剧增)like never before.

I decided right then and there that I would make a place for myself in this world. No matter how many obstacles(障碍)I might meet in life, I knew I could overcome them. A simple three-word phrase delivered with incredible enthusiasm(热情)had totally changed my young life. “THAT’S RIGHT, STEPHEN!”

【1】A “mainstream” school is probably where ________.

A.students with disabilities go to study

    B.students can receive extra care

C.most students do not have disabilities

    D.there are many wonderful teachers

【2】What was the author’s school life like?

A.He got along very well with his classmates.

B.He could deal with his homework easily.

C.He kept up with others by working hard.

D.He felt ashamed of his performance in school.

【3】When Mrs. Jordan called on the author, ________.

A.he was so nervous that he forgot the answer

B.he didn’t expect to receive such encouraging praise

C.he was afraid that his classmate might laugh at him

D.he knew he would become an instant star afterwards

【4】With his story, the author mainly intends to tell us that ________.

A.teachers should help their students build their confidence

B.the right words at the right time could make a difference

C.being disabled doesn’t mean being less important than others

D.you need to prove yourself when you are given the chance
