21、You may often hear some myths (传言) about animals. For example, one dog year equals about seven human years, chameleons (变色龙) change color to match their environment... Today, let’s talk about birds. It is said that if you touch a baby bird, the parents will completely abandon (抛弃) it. Do you really believe it?
In fact, most birds have a very poor sense of smell, so in most cases are unable to even notice the smell of humans on baby birds. Not only that, but most types of birds aren’t so quick to a band on their young when they sense danger. Some types will even do their best to protect their young when they are in danger.
In deed, in very few known cases, parent birds sometimes abandoned their nests from something touching their young, just because they noticed it by sight, not smell. When this happens, the parent birds usually won’t care, other than to be a little more careful than normal. Sometimes, they may temporarily (暂时地) abandon the nest in order to better watch whatever disturbed their nest comes back.
What’s more, in most cases, even if the nest is destroyed by wind or something to that effect, you could create a new one and put all the baby birds back in it, and when the parents came back, they wouldn’t care their baby birds were in a different nest, so long as you put the new nest near where the old one was so they can find it.
【1】Which of the following is true?
A.Birds have a very good sense of smell.
B.A baby bird will die soon if it is touched by someone.
C.Whatever disturbed the nest will never come back.
D.Some birds will protect their babies when they are in danger.
【2】What does the underlined word in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A.Their nest.
B.Their baby.
C.Some birds abandoning their nests.
D.Something touching their young.
【3】What is the best title of this passage?

B.Baby Birds
C.Bird Nests

Painful for Your Ears
Do you often listen to music at loud volumes? You should know that this habit is bad for your hearing, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
The human ear has three different parts. The outer ear is the part you can see. The middle ear and inner ear are inside your head. That doesn't mean those parts can't be hurt. They can be harmed by loud noises. Over one billion young people are at risk of hearing loss due to listening to loud noise for long periods of time, said WHO. Listening to music or watching a TV show at loud volumes can harm your hearing.
Sounds are measured in decibels (dB分贝). A whisper is 30 dB. A friend talking is about 60 dB. The sound of a busy road is about 85 dB and the sound of a rock concert can be about 100 dB. The United Nations has standards for safe listening. It is not safe to listen to sounds that are louder than 85 dB for eight hours or 100 dB for 15 minutes.
Loud noise is harmful to the inner ear. Most of us are born with about 16,000 hair cells (听毛细胞) in our inner ears. These cells detect (探测) sounds. However, listening to loud noise for a long time can make these cells work too hard and cause some of them to die. This is what causes hearing loss.
Some people might think that their music isn't all that loud. But this can depend on where you are. For example, if you are in a noisy place like the subway, you might turn up your music too loud without realizing it. Later, when you listen to it the same volume in a quiet place, you might feel uncomfortable.
What can be done to protect your hearing? Use noise-canceling (降噪) headphones. These headphones get rid of background noise. You don't need to turn up the volume as much. Keep your device volume at 50 to 60 percent. Limit daily use of headphones. Listen to sound on your mobile devices for a maximum of one hour per day.
The less loud noise you hear, the better!
【1】Listening to loud music causes hearing problems because_______.

A.people have to wear headphones while walking on a busy road

C.young people should set a time limit of listening to music at loud volumes

23、Some people think only school children do not agree with their parents. However, it is not true. Communication is a problem for parents and children of all ages. If it’s hard for you to communicate with your parents, don’t worry about it. Here is some advice for you to bridge the generation gap (代沟).
Don’t argue with your parents. Don’t get to your parents when you are angry. Your parents probably won’t consider your ideas if you are shouting at them. And you can’t express yourself well if you are angry. Go some place to cool off. Make sure you understand why you are unhappy. Then think about what you want to say to your parents. If you don’t think you can speak to them at the moment, try writing a letter.
Try to reach a compromise (和解). Perhaps you and your parents disagree on something. You can keep your disagreement and try your best to accept each other. Michael’s mother didn’t agree with him about buying a motorcycle. They argued over it. But they finally came to a compromise. Michael bought the motorcycle, but only drove it on certain days.
Of course, your parents might refuse to compromise on something. In these situations, it is especially important to show love and respect to them. Showing respect will keep your relationship strong.
Talk about your values. The values of your parents are probably different from those of your own. Tell your parents what you care about, and why. Understanding your values might help them see your purposes in life.
A good relationship with your parents can make you a better and happier person. It is worth having a try!

24、 It is said that “China is always well protected by the bravest(最勇敢的) of them.” Indeed, in the fight against the novel corona virus(新冠状病毒), it is medical workers who are risking their lives on the frontlines.
By Feb 17, more than 32,000 medical workers from all over China went to Hubei. They are working under unusual conditions, unimaginable stress and intensive(密集的) schedules.
In Wuhan mobile cabin(方舱) hospitals, doctors and nurses work for long hours, usually six hours in a row(连续). Many of them have deep marks on their faces from wearing tight masks and goggles(护目镜). To help them recognize(认出) each other, they write their names on their clothing. They also choose to wear diapers(尿不湿), as it takes nearly an hour to take their protective uniforms on and off. When they are racing time to save lives, every second matters. To cheer each other up, medical workers wrote good words on their uniforms, such as “Stay strong” and “Hope”.
Many doctors and nurses got the disease during the earliest period of the outbreak because of a lack of knowledge about the disease, as well as a shortage of medical supplies(供应). Some of them got well and went back to work. Some of them, unluckily, lost their lives. According to China’s National Health Commission, a total of 1,716 medical workers in China got the disease by Feb 11, while six passed away.
