21、We know that disabled people are seldom shown in advertisement on television. If they really are, it is usually to make people feel sad for them. It is important to find out what would be the most helpful to the other person, instead of supposing that you know. This may take time. Some people become impatient. Others may be too selfish to make the effort. Remember that disabled people may do things in a different way from you. All it needs is a little thought. Whether disabled or not, we can all learn from each other. Disabled people necessarily make themselves brave. They probably feel that they have to adapt to(适应)their situation(处境). They have learnt not to give up, but to keep on trying. Life isn’t always fair. Sometimes we have to deal with difficult situations. Having to face a challenge can often help us to have a better understanding of ourselves and of other people.
It is not helped to treat disabled people as if they all have the same feelings and needs. And it’s important for us to know what kind of help the disabled person would welcome.
Some people often think disabled people are poor and have mercy(怜悯)on them. In face this can be offensive because it may be unkind and hurt.

A Long career
Hello everyone. My name is Brad Griffiths and I’ve been a journalist for 30 years. Yes, that’s a long time, isn’t it? I’m going to talk to you today about choosing journalism as a career.
I always wanted to be a journalist. I started a newspaper at school and worked on a student newspaper at university. I got a job as a journalist as soon as I finished university and I still love my job today.
Journalism is not for everyone. To be a good journalist, you need to write well. You need to write in a way that is interesting to your audience. As a journalist, you will have to write for different audiences, so you need to be able to change your style as well.
Journalists work very hard. It doesn’t matter if you are oversea, writing about a war or at home writing about local news. Journalists work long days and it can be very hard to find time to have a holiday.
You also need to be strong. What do I mean by that? Well, not everyone will like what you write. Sometimes people will criticize your work. You can’t argue with these people. You have to try to ignore them and keep working.
You have to be good at talking to people too. Journalists find out most of their information by talking to people. Not everyone wants to talk to a Journalist so you need to get people to trust you.
Being a journalist is a hard but great job. Now, are there any questions?

"I had a terrible car accident in August 1996. It took me 10 months to recover (康复) from the accident. During that time, I realized I wanted to find a more meaningful reason for being here in this world," said Julia.
As soon as she recovered, Julia gave up working at the restaurant and traveled to California. One day she found a big company wanted to cut down part of a forest. In the forest there were lots of redwood trees. One of the trees was more than 1 ,000 years old.
Then Julia learned a group called Our Earth was trying to save the redwood forest from the company. They decided to find someone to live in a redwood tree and hoped this would stop the company from cutting the trees down. Julia volunteered.
Julia lived in the tree for over two years without ever going down. It was cold and wet in a redwood tree. There were even very serious winter storms while Julia was in the tree.
