Comfort Zone is a state of mind where there is the least stress. However, stepping into the learning zone can help to bring out the best in us. Here are the reasons.
Challenging yourself can help you do at your best. Stepping outside one’s comfort zone is important to personal development. How can we expect to make ourselves better if we only stick to habit and routine(日常)? We should try something we might not succeed at.
Taking risks is what helps us grow. As children, we’re natural risk-takers. But as we get older and learn to fear failure, we start trying fewer new things. We pay a heavy price for our fear of failure. There is no learning without some difficulty.
Facing new challenges can help us age better. Our comfort zones seem to become smaller as we get older, but if we can keep expanding them, we’ll open ourselves up to a greater world as we age. As we step into the learning zone, we will get more comfortable with the skills gradually and we’ll start to move into the comfort zone. A study found that learning new life skills can help our brain sharp as we get older.
However, don’t push yourself too far. Have you heard of “Yerkes-Dodson Law”? It means performance increases as stress grows, but only up to a point. If the level of stress becomes too high, performance will go down. When stress becomes too great for us to deal with, we enter the danger zone.
【1】Compared with the comfort zone, people in the learning zone may ______.
A.learn to fear failure
B.face more challenges
C.try fewer risks
D.feel less stress

25、 The founder of Huawei seldom spoke to the media, while he let his company's fast growth do the talking. That's changing as Huawei finds itself in a dangerous situation in the US. Ren, 74, tells CNN in an interview that the challenges Huawei faces are just so common for him. "There are always difficulties for me. I never had smooth sailing because when I was young, my family background wasn't good. I had to work really hard to get even just a little bit of opportunity to work."
In 1974, Ren joined the PLA (中国人民解放军) as an engineer. During that period, the country was suffering from terrible food and clothing shortages (短缺). "I had been to college, and people like me could play a role." he said. After the PLA, Ren worked for an oil company before founding Huawei in 1987. It was set up in Shenzhen, which was just a fishing village then.
To get market share, Ren suffered serious depression (抑郁) during the darkest days of the company. Ren pushed staff to work long hours and do whatever it took to save business. Unable to compete in the big cities, Huawei worked on China's small towns and villages. All the time, Ren devoted a lot to research and development, pushing Huawei to create its own technology that would make it compete with its competitors.
Ren worked long hours leaving him little time to build strong relationships with his three children. He has said that while in the PLA, he spent just one month a year with his family. After starting Huawei, "I had to spend 16 hours a day in the office," he said. He once asked his kids whether they’d like him to spend more time with the family or work to "build a platform (平台)" on which they could grow. His children chose the latter (后者).

26、Mr. King was the manager of a hotel. One weekend all the hotels in the city were full because there was a large meeting. On Friday night, three men came into the hotel and asked for rooms. Mr. King said there were no rooms ready because of the meeting. The men were unhappy.
Mr. King wanted to help them. He remembered that Room 418, a very small room, was empty. He asked them if they would share a room. The three men said they would. Mr. King said the room would be thirty dollars: ten for each one. Each man gave him the money and then went up to the room.
Mr. King soon began to feel sorry. "Thirty dollars is a lot to ask as price for that small room. " he thought. He called his assistant over and said, "Here is five dollars. Take it to the men in Room 418. I asked too much for their room."
The assistant took the money. While he was on the way there, he started to think, "How can three men divide five dollars? I'll give them each only one dollar and keep the two dollars for myself. The men will be happy to get something back, and Mr. King will never know. " So the assistant returned one dollar to each man.
Each man had at first paid ten dollars. After the assistant returned them one dollar each, each had paid nine. There were three men, $ 9 ×3 = $ 27. The assistant kept $ 2. $ 27 + $ 2 = $ 29. Where is the missing dollar?

27、I used to think that life in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, was filled with never-changing styles. I hated that everyone seemed to know everything about everyone else. Everyone seemed to enjoy talking about other people and their lives. I also didn’t like the fact that people seemed very close-minded. I felt trapped. I felt like I was missing . It seemed to me that city life would be the opposite.
Then I took my first trip to New York City. I couldn’t wait to experience the city. However, when I arrived in the Big Apple, it wasn’t at all what I had imagined. I knew it was home to thousands of people, but I hadn’t had the least expectation to see so many people on the street at one time. All the streets were filled with people. I also felt a little surprised to see that everyone was in a hurry and everything moved at such a fast pace(步伐). When I took the subway for the first time, I said hello to the middle-aged woman next to me. She looked at me with dislike and didn’t say a word.
After just one day, I realized how important my small town is to me. Now I miss the familiar faces I see every day. I like the feeling of safety and belonging my town offers. Jim Thorpe gives me a sense of community and togetherness that the city doesn’t provide. I realize just how much a simple hello does for a stranger — it really can make your day a little better.
My big trip showed me that my small town really has its own values in me that I didn’t even know I had. I never would have known what a big place my town holds in my heart if I had not taken that trip to New York City.
