1、 There is a tradition at my school that when Changsha High School Entrance Examination is less than a month away, students in the lower grades, from Grade 7 to Grade 8, all gather together on the ground in front of the teaching building and cheer on the Grade 9 students who are standing upstairs.1. It wasn’t until I took part in the activity in person that I understood the true meaning of it.
2. 那时我上7年级。On that special night, all the Grade 9 students stood in the hallways and looked down at the younger students below. Various cheers started to resound throughout the school, wave after wave. “Believe in yourself! You will succeed!”
Seeing everyone’s smiling face around us,3.我们想起了一句著名的格言。It’s from the American philosopher (哲学家) Henry David Thoreau, 4.“What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.”
Soon it will be my turn to receive blessing in this way.5. That also means we will have to say goodbye to our school. Although it will be sad, being cheered on by so many students will still be one of the brightest time of my life.

Wu from Beijing: I think it would be great to have another day off (休息日) every week, besides the weekend. If that day was a Friday or a Monday, we would have a long weekend every week. What fun! I also think school should start later, at about 10 o’clock, and finish earlier.

Judy is reading a book which describes 37 endangered natural and cultural treasures in the world. The writer wants the book to be hopeful call to action. Let’s visit some of these places. | Venice The city of Venice, Italy, has been in danger because of rising sea levels. The situation is worse because of its ancient buildings that were built on a body of water and are slowly sinking (下沉). When the city was built 1,600 years ago, the level of the Adriatic Sea was almost 2 meters lower than it is today. |
Mount Kilimanjaro The mountain is the highest point in Africa, almost 6,000 meters high. It supports 5 plant areas and many kinds of animals. The ice glaciers (冰川) on it are disappearing very quickly. This is bad for the local natural environ ment and its tourist industry. Also, a valuable record of thousands of years of weather history will also be lost if the ice melts (融化). | Glacier National Park In the US, the icy blocks in the park may soon completely disappear because of weather change. In 1850, there were about 150 glaciers, but only 26 are remaining today. Scientists predict that all the glaciers will be gone by 2030. Warm temperatures are also threat ening (威胁) many kinds of plants and animals that live in the park. |
Great Barrier Reef It’s the largest coral reef (珊瑚礁) in the world. Rising sea temperatures are greatly harming the reef. In some areas, healthy yellow, brown and green reefs have become white. The coral becomes white in warmer tem perature. Sick or dying coral affects the natural environment of this special underwater area. Water pollution and visits from careless swimmers and divers also threaten the reef. |

26、If you’ve been joining in chat room conversations, or trading e-mail with net pals (网友), you have become one of the millions who write in a special, short form of English.
Throughout the world, every night children and their elders are “talking” online—many of them are talking at the same time.
It’s fast: trying talking to six people once. It’s convenient: three or four words per exchange. It takes cleverness, concentration and quick fingers.
And it requires very simple language. There’s neither time nor space for explanations. Why waste valuable time telling six friends you have to leave for a moment to take care of your little brother when BRB (=be right back) will do?
Want to enter a conversation? Just type PMFJI (=pardon me for jumping in).
Interested in whom you’re talking to? Type A/S/L, the common request to know your pal’s age, sex and location. You may get 15/M/NY as a reply from your pal.
If something makes you laugh, say you’re OTF (=on the floor), or LOL (=laughing out loud), or join the two into ROTFL (=rolling on the floor laughing).
And when it’s time to get back to work or go to bed, you type GTG (=got to go) or TTYL (=talk to you later).
People want to write as fast as possible, and they want to get their ideas across as quickly as they can. Capital letters are left in the dust, except when expressing feeling, as it takes more time to hold down the “shift” key and use capitals. Punctuation is going too.
【1】When people are online, they talk by ______.
A.using body language
B.drawing some strange pictures
C.making phone calls

A.people should use words properly
B.people should know what time it is when they are talking
C.people online have to express themselves in a simple way
D.people should communicate in a funny way
【3】If you get 17/F/NY as an answer to your A/S/L, it means ______.
A.the people on the other end is 17 from New York and he is fine
B.you are talking to a girl who is 17 and lives in New York
C.you are talking to 17 girls who are from New York
D.the people you are talking to is a 17-foot tall New York girl
【4】Which of the following is a way to save online time?
A.People seldom use capital letters or punctuation marks.

27、 China will cut the number of climbers trying to climb Mount Qomolangma from the north this year as part of plans for the clean-up on the world's highest mountains. The clean-up activity will include moving away the bodies of climbers who died at more than 8,000 metres up the mountain.
The total number of climbers trying to reach the top of the world's highest mountain from the north will be controlled to less than 300. The climbing season will be controlled to spring.
Parts of Qomolangma are in China and Nepal (尼泊尔). Each year, around 60,000 climbers and guides visit the Chinese north side of the mountain, but few actually try to climb it. China has set up stations to sort (分类), recycle and break down rubbish from the mountain, which includes cans, plastic bags, tents and oxygen tanks (氧气瓶).
On the Nepalese side, mountaineering trip organizers have begun sending huge rubbish bags to climbers during the spring climbing season. They should collect rubbish that then can be carried by helicopters back to the base camp.
Every year there are many victims on Qomolangma often in the "death area" above 8,000 metres, where the air is the thinnest. In 2017, 648 people reached the top of Qomolangma. Six people have died on the mountain that year, one of whom on the north side.
Qomolangma has become the world's highest rubbish dump (垃圾场). Meanwhile, melting (融化) ice caused by global warming is exposing (暴露) rubbish that has been left on the mountain since Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay made the first successful climbing 67 years ago.

D.On the Nepalese side, climbers should take rubbish back to the base camp.
【4】What does the underlined word "victims" mean?
A.Persons who enjoy climbing. B.Persons who work hard.
C.Persons who help climbers. D.Persons who have experienced death.
