四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、   Could cities that float on the sea solve the problems caused by floods and provide food for the world?

Some scientists think so. The idea is already being tested and they believe that floating cities will provide more homes for a growing population, without having to use land needed to grow food. And they believe floating areas will allow more food to be grown, so that no one in the world is hungry.

In some places, cities that float on the sea are already being planned. A company in the Netherlands called DeltaSync thinks that the sea cities will save the world, with more than one in ten people living in them.

They say sea cities solve many problems the world faces in the 21st century, like not having enough land, more and more people needing homes, fossil fuels running low and the increasingly serious problems caused by floods.

DeltaSync says building in the desert is not possible because there is not enough water and that developing ways for people to live in space is still too expensive. So they believe the answer is our oceans, which cover over two thirds of the Earth’s surface. Their plans for floating areas include using algae (海藻) to produce fuel and food.

More than a quarter of the land in the Netherlands already lies underwater and scientists there have spent years trying to find ways to deal with it. In the city of Rotterdam they already have floating homes.

Bart Roeffen from DeltaSync says, “We have plans for neighborhoods including roads and, in the end, I believe we can build floating cities on the sea.”

1Which of the following is the advantage of the cities that DeltaSync wants to build?

A.Providing more jobs for people. B.Satisfying more people’s housing needs.

C.Supplying enough water to people. D.Making travel in space possible.

2What can we learn about the Netherlands?

A.There are floating homes in one of its cities. B.It has found many fossil fuels recently.

C.Two thirds of its land is covered by water. D.Its population is increasing quickly.

3What does Bart Roeffen think of his company’s future plans?

A.He doubts them. B.He has no idea about them.

C.He is uncertain about them. D.He is hopeful of them.

4What is the best title for the passage?

A.Will there be enough water? B.Is it possible to live in the desert?

C.Will sea cities save the world? D.Is it expensive to build floating cities?

  • 25、   Today some women are wearing the new high platform shoes that came into style (时髦,式样)not long ago. Young women enjoy wearing stylish clothes. They also enjoy being taller while they are wearing these shoes.

But doctors are not very happy with the platform shoes. Foot specialist report that many women hurt their feet by wearing them. These specialists say that if you turn ankle when wearing a normal shoe, the foot can easily return to its position. However, if you fall while walking on a high platform shoe, your foot may turn so far you will break.

There is also a possibility that these shoes cause backaches. Many platform shoes have high heels (),and women who wear them say that these shoes sometimes make them feel tired.(It has been found that people use more energy when walking on high-heeled shoes.)

The driver might not be able to feel the difference between the brake () and the accelerator (油门踏板). Also, if the platforms are very high, and if the driver has to stop the car quickly, she might not be able to move her foot to the brake in time.

Women are not alone in wearing platform shoes. Many U.S. shoe stores sell platform shoes designed for men. Doctors continued to warn people about the dangers of wearing them. A high style is not always a safe style.

1Some people enjoy wearing high platform shoes because they think ________.

A.the shoes will make them healthy

    C.they would look taller

    D.the shoes are popular

  • 27、   Funny action, Chinese kung fu, and the Monkey King: If you want to re-experience the adventures of Journey to the West, then Unruly Heroes, a 2D action game by Magic Design Studios (MDS) in France, is for you. The game is an example where international talent meets traditional Chinese culture.

“Creating a game based on the novel, Journey to the West, has actually been my dream since I entered this profession,” said Lu Yang, CEO and creative director of MDS. “It is a very dramatic tale set in a big, imaginary world. Every character is described vividly.”

“Everyone in China knows the story, but in European countries or the US, few people know about Journey to the West. I think such a fascinating story should be introduced to more people,” he said.

Released in January, Unruly Heroes has received an 80 percent positive reaction on STEAM. The game features a unique story and cast of characters, where players can alternate between four characters: Wukong, Sanzang, Kihong and Sandmonk.

The creative team combines many Chinese cultural elements with the art design, building an immersive world of art, animation and a taste of Chinese folk music. “Our goal is to introduce Journey to the West to the world, and be accepted by players from different cultural backgrounds,” Lu said.

Set against lush (华丽的) environments and a hand-drawn art style, Unruly Heroes updates the Journey to the West classic tale into an adventure that is more colorful, humorous and attractive to people in modern times. As Lu introduced, the game differed a lot compared with the original story. “For example, we reimagined White Bone Spirit as the owner of a beauty salon, so players need to destroy her mask to defeat her.”

Lu believes that Chinese culture has strong potential to reach a broader audience, but it needs the efforts of more companies and creative minds.

“We can add Chinese cultural elements into products that are acce ssible to people around the world. Video games, film and TV series, and other cultural and entertainment products resonate (共鸣) easily internationally,” he said.

“I am not a scholar; I simply want to do what I can to present a story I love to more people far and wide,” Lu added.

1The writer mentions the example of White Bone Spirit in order to________.

A.explain why Unruly Heroes changes the story in Journey to the West

B.compare the story in Unruly Heroes with that in Journey to the West

C.show how Unruly Heroes modernize the story in Journey to the West

D.criticize Unruly Heroes for changing the story in Journey to the West

2The word accessible to in Paragraph 8 means________.

A.likely to interest B.easy to reach C.possible to upset D.hard to attract

3What can we learn from the passage?

A.Journey to the West is widely known and accepted in Europe and the United States.

B.Many traditional Chinese stories need changing as their characters are not vivid enough.

C.With more creativity, Chinese culture will be accepted by more people around the world.

D.Unruly Heroes avoids Chinese cultural elements to attract players from different countries.

4What’s the best title of the passage?

A.Unruly Heroes: A Tale that Continues to Develop

B.Unruly Heroes: A Method that Makes a Difference

C.Unruly Heroes: An Effort that Creates Traditional Culture

D.Unruly Heroes: A Game that Takes Chinese Culture Abroad
