四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、   Has anyone ever told you that eating carrots will help you see in the dark? This is just one of many incorrect beliefs you may have heard. Below, there are some scientific explanations for three mistakes that people make about their eyes. Let's take a look.

It may be helpful for people who have trouble sensing lights in the dark. Carrots are rich in vitamin A, which helps the eyes to turn light into information for your brain. This allows people to see in darker places. However, eating more carrots won't help you see better. A certain minimum (少量) amount will help, but a large number of carrots will not give you superhuman vision.

If your parents have bad eyesight, will you have bad eyesight, too?

Myopia (近视) can be passed from parents to children. A study by the American Optometric Association found that if both parents are myopic, there's a 33 to 60 percent chance that their child will be. For children who have one parent with myopia, the chance is 23 to 40 percent, and it's down to 6 to 15 percent for kids with non-myopic parents.

So if your eyesight is bad, your children might still have good vision.

Do color blind people see the world in black and white?

Color blindness doesn't usually mean that people see the world like an old movie. There are different levels of color blindness. Some people are only color blind in low light. However, in the most serious form of color blindness, everything is shades of gray.

This is actually connected to how serious the cone cells (视锥细胞) have been damaged. Normally, cone cells contain various kinds of chemicals, which are sensitive to different wavelengths (波长) of light. If a few chemicals are missing, people then can't tell certain colors apart, especially green and red. Another commonly confused pair of colors is yellow and blue. If cone cells do not contain those chemicals, then the most serious form of color blindness occurs.

1According to the article, which of the following about eating carrots is true?

A.Eating carrots stops the brain from seeing.

B.Eating carrots doesn't help you see better at all.

C.The more carrots we eat, the better we are going to see in the dark.

D.Eating some carrots is good for our eyes to some degree.

2If both parents have myopia, their child's chance of having myopia is   .A.33%60%   B.40%67%   C.23%40%   D.6%15%

3What is the cause of color blindness, according to the text?

A.Watching movies for too long. B.Cone cells not working properly.

C.Getting too little exercise. D.Changes in the wavelength of light.

4What does the underlined "this" refer to?

A.the most serious form of color blindness

B.whether color blind people see the world in black and white

    C.different levels of color blindness

D.the reason why people are color blind in low light

5What is the purpose of this article?

A.To offer some advice on protecting your eyes.

B.To clear up some incorrect beliefs about our eyes.

C.To provide help for improving your vision.

D.To explain how bad eyesight and color blindness form.

  • 25、

    Did you know?

Box-office monster “Zootopia” has been called the “most Easter egg-packed(彩蛋) movie ever made by Disney”. One of its Easter eggs comes to the species of the news anchor seen on the film’s ZNN channel. Depending on where in the world you’re watching “Zootopia”, the type of animals hosting may change.

Zootopia went a step further to make the different versions (版本). In the US, Canada, France, the news anchor is moose(麋鹿). In Brazil, it’s a jaguar(美洲虎). Australia and New Zealand get a koala; while Chinese audiences see a giant panda.

    User Reviews

What can I say…. I’m a huge Disney fan. Maybe not like my friend over at Reviewing All 54 Disney Animated Films. And More!, the Disney cartoons have been a big part of my life. So, in a sense, the Disney animated features are a big deal to me.

Whether young or old, Zootopia’s story carries a powerful and thematic commentary message that’s highly valued and relative (especially in today’s world). As Judy Hopps says in the movie “Life’s a little bit messy. We all make mistakes. No matter what type of animal you are, change starts with you.” And I can’t agree more with that statement.

【1】 In the film, the animal hosting turns into a ___________ if you live in Sydney.

    A. koala   B. giant panda

    C. moose   D. jaguar

【2】Who is one of the directors of the film?

    A. Jared Bush B. Rich Moore

    C. Idris Elba D. Ginnifer Goodwin

【3】You can probably spot this article in a(n) ___________.

    A. newspaper B. magazine

    C. movie net D. Imax poster

【4】Which of the following is TRUE based on the passage?

A.Zootopia is a romance story about a koala and a giant panda.

B.The film will be released on 4 March 2016 in English and French.

C.You can go to the nearby theater for different 3D versions of Zootopia.

D.Zootopia made different versions which are called “Easter egg-packed”.

【5】Where can we infer (推断) from the User Review?

A.She is a huge Disney fan.

B.She has reviewed 54 Disney animated films.

C.She agrees with the message that the film carries.

D.She does not agree with what Judy Hopps says.

The government suggested that its people stay indoors and not open windows during the dust storm. It will be the second time this month that the capital has been hit by smog and dust storm.

Shanxi and Gansu provinces, and Xinjiang and Ningxia and Inner Mongolia are also expected to have dusty weather over the weekend, according to the National Meteorological Center on Friday.

The center asked people to wear face masks if they go out, and added that children and the old should stay indoors. Meanwhile, the storm will also bring a lower temperature in most parts of northern China.

Yang Ping, a doctor in Hebei Province People’s Hospital, said there is no room for more children who have respiratory(呼吸的) problems.

Friends are important in our life, because no one wants to be lonely. However, some people have difficulty 1   (make) friends and they often feel lonely. And they often feel unsafe when 4  (face) strangers.

Does that mean they have no way to become happy again? No, don’t worry. Scientists of this study have 5(think) up ways to help these people deal with their loneliness. They provided four steps for 6 (get) out of loneliness.

The first step is to accept social invitations even if you don’t want to go.

“It’s not enough for people just to get in 7 /tʌtʃ/ with others online. That’s because most people don’t show their true selves there,” said Dr. Cacioppo, one of this study’s scientists. Another step is to get an action plan. As “ actions speak8 (loud) than words”, people need to be active to 9  /kəˈmjuːnɪkeɪt/ with others. They also need to meet people with the same interests.
