四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、   It’s always a happy moment when you get some pocket money. But have you ever thought about how to spend your pocket money wisely? Here is some advice.

    Make a list.

When you get your pocket money, don’t get too excited. We all have a lot of things that we want. But do you really need them? That’s why it is necessary to make a list before you spend money. Start with the thing you want most. You can also write down how much it costs or how important it is in your life. By doing this, you will see if it is really necessary to buy it.

    Help others.

How about being more selfless and using your pocket money to help others? We all know that there are many people in the world who are in need of our help. Helping others brings out the best in us and is one of the greatest joys in our lives. So consider using your pocket money to do something useful and helpful, and feel how you can make a difference.

Save as much as you can.

There is an old saying that “Money doesn’t grow on trees.” If you spend all your pocket money right away, you’ll have no money until your next “pay day”. A wallet sometimes might not be the best place to save money because it may make it easier for you to spend your money. Get a piggy bank(存钱罐)or ask your parents to start a savings account (账户) for you. Someday when you look back, you’ll get a strong feeling of achievement by saving so much money by yourself!

1Why should we make a list before spending money?

    A. Because it can help us know if we have enough money for the things.

    B. Because it can make sure we buy everything we need.

    C. Because it can help us know which thing is the most expensive.

    D. Because it can help us buy things that we want most.

2What does the underlined sentence “Money doesn’t grow on trees.” mean?

    A. Money is as important as trees. B. Money doesn’t come easily.

    C. One can make money by growing trees. D. We should use our money to protect the environment.

3The best place to save money can be ________ according to the writer.

    A. our piggy bank B. our parents’ wallet C. our parents’ account D. our wallet

4Which of the following is NOT mentioned in the passage?

    A. Helping others can bring us great happiness.

    B. Saving much money can make us get a strong feeling of achievement.

    C. Pocket money can be used to do something useful and helpful.

    D. We should tell our parents before we buy something expensive.

5What is the best title for the passage?

    A. How to save pocket money B. How to get pocket money

    C. How to help others with pocket money D. How to spend pocket money

    INFO BITES

    Fight to the finish

In a match that was called “one of the greatest fights I’ve ever seen in my life” by fight commentator (评论员) Joe Rogan, Chinese MMA (mixed martial arts, 综合格斗) fighter Zhang Weili beat Polish fighter Joanna Jedrzejczyk on March 7.

Zhang, 30, and Jedrzejczyk, 32, squared off (打斗) in Las Vegas, with Zhang successfully defending her strawweight (草量级) UFC (终极格斗冠军赛) title. The fight was highly anticipated, as both women are known as top fighters among their peers.

Zhang’s training was cut by the novel coronavirus outbreak. It forced her to travel from Beijing to Thailand and then to Abu Dhabi before arriving in Vegas about a week later than planned, according to China Daily. Worse still, Zhang was offended (激怒) by a post on social media in which Jedrzejczyk seemed to make fun of the outbreak. In a mock poster that Jedrzejczyk posted, she wears a gas mask (防毒面具) standing behind Zhang.

Although the post was later deleted, Zhang said that she was fired up to make Jedrzejczyk pay for the tasteless joke in the octagon(八角格斗场).

In the end, Zhang scored a narrow win over Jedrzejczyk, with both ending up in the hospital due to the intensity (激烈程度) of their fight.

“All fighters deserve respect from one another in the octagon. I don' t like people hitting each other with trash talk," said Zhang following her victory. “We go for the championship with our punches (拳头) but we shall never end up being remembered as only talking with violence (暴力)."

“Now the virus situation is not just affecting China, but the whole world. I hope everybody in the world can stand together to fight the virus with a united effort,” she said.

  • 26、Every year thousands of people get hurt or lose their lives when they are crossing the road. Most of them are old people and children. Old people often get hurt because they can’t see or hear very well. Children usually meet with accidents because of their carelessness. They forget to look and listen before they cross the road.

How can we reduce (减少) traffic accidents? All of us must obey the traffic rules. For the drivers, they shouldn’t drive too fast. If they drive too fast, it will be very difficult to stop the cars in a very short time. For the pedestrians, it’s very important to be careful when they are walking on the road. You must stop and look both ways before crossing the road. Look left first, next look right, and then look left again. When you make sure that it is safe, you can cross it. The right way to cross the road is to walk quickly. It’s not safe to run. If people run across the road, they may fall down. • 27、US poet Allen Ginsberg once said, “Poetry is the one place where people can speak their original(独创的) human mind.”

To know the special ability of poetry to catch the human spirit, World Poetry Day is held by the United Nations on March 21 each year.

The magic of poetry lies in the connection built up through words between the writer and the reader. When we read a poem, we often imagine what the poet was thinking when they wrote it, or what they were doing at the time. These thoughts let us connect with the words better, as if we’d written the poem ourselves.

But in the age of artificial intelligence (AI,人工智能), would a poem still mean as much if it weren’t written by a human at all? Today, computers can create all kinds of texts, including research papers, books, news stories and even poems.

In 2013, Australian researcher Oscar Schwartz and his friend Benjamin Laird created a website called “bot or not”, where readers can read poems and guess whether they were written by a human or a computer. During a recent speech at TedX Sydney, Schwartz said that all over the years, some of the website’s poems were able to fool(欺骗)65 percent of human readers into thinking they were written by a human.

By creating the website, Schwartz and Laird hoped that people would doubt the difference between humans and machines – and be able to tell what makes us human.

“The human mind is not a cold, hard fact,” Schwartz said during his speech. A computer may be able to create poems that are correct in both grammar and style, but it wouldn’t be able to get the same meanings and feelings across as a human poet could. In fact, now AI software creates poems based on ones that have already been written by humans. As Schwartz noted, “The computer works like a mirror that reflects (反映) any idea of a human.”

【1】The purpose of the first three paragraphs is to ___________.

A.introduce where World Poetry Day comes from.

B.show how popular poetry is around the world.

C.show the importance and beauty of poetry.

D.give some tips on enjoying poetry.

【2】What did the data(数据)from “bot or not” show?

A.Computers are better than humans at writing poetry.

B.Computers can also produce poems of high quality.

C.Readers don’t really care whether the poems were written by humans.

D.Few readers can tell poems written by computers from those by humans.

【3】According to the article, computers can’t match humans in creating poems because they_____.

A.fail to use the correct grammar and style

B.can’t create poems that are meaningful

C.can’t show feelings as well as humans

D.only know how to follow humans’ poems

  • 29、   Is there anything that could help parents understand their kids better? More than 8000 kids answered this question in an online survey by Time for Kids and Kids Health. org.

Many kids two out of three(2/3) said they _______ their parents. But that doesn’t mean they _______ disagree. In fact, most kids reported _________ with their parents on occasion(偶尔). Some even reported that their arguments included yelling(大喊) at each other.

“It’s certainly _________ to disagree and argue, says D’Arcy Lyness, a child psychologist(心理学家). “But it’s also important to learn how to do so respectfully(恭敬地).”

Not surprisingly, three out of four(3/4) kids said they had _________ to their parents on occasion. Many said they lie _______ they won’t get in trouble or disappoint their parents. According to Lyness, lying can have bad _______. If kids lie when they’re young, they might continue a pattern of lying even as adults.

Telling the truth, on the other hand, shows maturity(成熟). But older kids actually lie more _________ than younger ones. Kids ages 12 to 14 not only said they lie more, but they also reported having _________ fun, feeling less close and not getting along as well with their parents.

According to Lyness, these feelings are not uncommon. As kids become more __________, they have more areas of disagreement with their parents. But it doesn’t have to be that way. “Kids and parents get along differently at each stage of the journey,” she says. “As kids grow and change, it is important for everybody to change.”
