四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、

My dad was in the radio business when I was growing up. He always got tickets to a lot of different sporting events, and in 1984 we went to Madison Square Garden during Michael Jordan’s rookie season (新秀赛季). My dad took me to see Jordan put on a show.

I remember looking at my dad as an eight-year-old kid and saying, “I want to be Michael Jordan one day.” Dad laughed a bit and then turned to me and said, “Son, I love you, but you’re probably not going to be Michael Jordan.” Then my dad pointed to the man standing next to Jordan at the time, his agent David Falk. My dad explained how Falk worked closely with players, and since then, that’s all I’ve ever wanted to do.

Years passed and I became a sports agent. My Job is simply to help professional players find jobs. No two days are the same, which I find exciting. If it’s in-season, I’m talking to players about how they are feeling and how they’re performing from week to week. During the off-season, I try to make sure players’ lives are managed, so they can focus on (专注于) improving on the field.

Not everyone can be a sports star, but it’s more possible to work on the business side of sports. I always tell the students I meet to go out of their way to introduce themselves to people. Relationships are so important in this business, and they can take you a long way.

1The writer went to Madison Square Garden ________.

A.to see Jordan put on a show B.to say hello to Jordan

C.to watch an exciting game D.to learn from Jordan

2The writer wanted to be ________ at first.

A.a soccer player B.a sports star

C.a professional runner D.a sports agent

    3David Falk was ________.

    A.Michael Jordan’s agent B.Michael Jordan’s teammate

    C.The writer’s agent D.The writer’s teammate

4Why does the writer think his job is exciting?

    A.Because he likes Michael Jordan.

B.Because no two days are the same.

C.Because he can help players in many ways.

D.Because he wants to be a basketball player.

5What does the writer think is important in his business?

    A.Knowledge. B.Working experience

    C.Relationships. D.Abilities of communication.

  • 25、The human brain is divided into two sides, or hemispheres, called the right brain and the left brain. The two hemispheres work together, but each one specializes in certain ways of thinking.

Each side has its own way of using information to help us think, understand, and process informa-tion.The left side of the brain controls language. It is more verbal and logical. It names things and puts them into groups. It uses rules and likes ideas to be clear, logical, and orderly. It is best at speech, reading, writing, and math. You use this side of the brain when you memorize spelling and grammar rules or when you do a math problem.

The right side of the brain is more visual and creative. It specializes in using information it receives from the senses of sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste. This side of the brain likes to dream and experiment. It controls your appreciation of music, color, and art. You use this side when you draw a picture or listen to music.Although we all use both sides of our brains, one side is usually stronger or dominant. Some people are more “left-brained,” and others are more “right-brained”. Our dominant side influ-ences the kinds of jobs and hobbies we have. Politicians, artists, architects, and musicians depend on their right brains. Accountants, engineers, doctors, and lawyers usually rely on their left brains.

    A. When we speak, we use right side of the brain.

  • 27、Welcome to your future life!

You get up in the morning and look into the mirror(镜子). Your face is not likely to change and stays young-looking. In 2035, medical science is better than ever. Many people of your age could live to be 150, so at 40, you’re not old at all. And your parents just had an anti-aging nanotechnology treatment. Now, all three of you look the same age!

You say to your shirt, “Turn red.” It changes from blue to red. In 2035, “smart clothes” contain particles, which are very tiny in size and can be programmed to change your clothes’ color or pattern.

You walk into the kitchen. You get the milk, but a voice says, “You shouldn’t drink that!” Your fridge has read the FRID chip, a piece of electronic equipment, on the milk bottle, and it knows the milk is old. In 2035, every food item in the supermarket has an FRID chip.

It’s time to go to work. In 2035, cars drive themselves. Just tell your “smart car” where to go. On the way, you can call a friend using your jacket sleeves(袖子). Nano-sized “smart technology” is all around you. “Your whole body and everything around you will become part of the same network,” says scientist Ampy Buchholz.

So will all these come true? For new technology to succeed, says scientist Andrew Zolli, “it has to be so much better that it replaces what we have already.” The Internet is one example-what will be the next?

【1】According to the passage, what will happen in 2035?

A.People will live to be 150.

    B.Clothes will be much cheaper.

    C.Cars can change colour themselves.

D.Food can stay fresh for a longer time.

【2】What does the underlined word “old” in Paragraph 4 mean?

    A.not free

    B.not fresh

    C.not expensive

    D.not young

【3】What will come true according to scientist Ampy Buchholz?

    A.Technology can be highly dangerous.

B.Technology can take the place of humans.

C.Technology can cause stress for people.

    D.Technology can become very common.

【4】What is the best title for the passage?

A.Why Will Everyday Life Be Changed?

B.What Will We Eat and Wear in 2035?

C.How Will We Live in 2035?

D.When Will Smart Technology Be Used?
