四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、In some science fiction movies, evil robots refuse to die, no matter how hard people fight back.

Now science fiction has become science fact. For the first time, scientists have made a robot that can take a beating (挨打) and keep on going. Scientists from Cornell University made the robot, which looks like a spider with four legs.

Until now, even the most advanced (先进的) robot was almost certain to break down when it was damaged. That is because its computer inside simply doesn’t know how to make the machine work after its shape has changed.

To deal with this problem, the scientists put eight motors (发动机) and two sensors (传感器) that read how the machine is working. They all give signals to the machine’s software. Using this information, the computer can then figure out the machine’s shape at any moment.

The new technology is a big advance in robot-making, scientists say, and it’s far from scary. It may someday help scientists create better artificial (假的) arms and legs and give new freedom to people who losethem. It might also help scientists understand how people and animals figure out their own sense of place in space.

“It has been difficult to design robots that can work well when the environment changes or when it’s damaged,” says Olaf Sporns of Indiana University in US. “With this work, we are nearer to solving this problem.”

1Why do robots easily break down when they are damaged?

    A. They cannot repair themselves.

    B. The computer has changed a lot.

    C. They have no computers inside.

    D. The computer cannot work if the robot changes.

2The new technology allows the robot to _________.

    A. do house work for humans

    B. keep working after being damaged

    C. remember a lot of information

    D. tell people where it is

3The underlined word “them” in Paragraph 5 refers to ________.

    A. sensors   B. robots

    C. arms and legs   D. scientists

4How do the sensors in the robot work?

    A. They can replace the computer when it’s broken.

    B. They can find out where the damage comes from.

    C. They help the computer learn the robot’s condition.

    D. They can send signals to the person who uses the robot.

    5The passage is probably from_____________.

    A. a newspaper   B. an advertisement

    C. a tour guide   D. an application

  • 25、   When throwing away trash, do you know which bin it should go in? Some of you might not be able to answer this question. But it's very important to know how to deal with your waste. Not knowing how to deal with waste is harder to save energy and protect the environment.

If you don’t deal with your garbage, all of it will go to a landfill(垃圾场) and be buried together. These landfills can take up large areas of ground. The electronic waste you throw away can pollute the soil and groundwater. Other pieces of garbage can be used to make other things if they are properly recycled.

Many cities in China have taken actions in recent years. For example, Shanghai announced in July that it would divide the garbage into four groups: recyclable, hazardous(有害的), wet and dry.

Paper, metal, glass and other things that can be reused are called recyclable waste.

Hazardous waste includes things like medicine, batteries and fluorescent bulbs(荧光灯泡). These things are not recyclable.

“Wet” waste is also known as household waste. “They are things you don't want but that pigs can eat,” Guangzhou Daily explained.

Some waste such as plastic bags, beer bottles and other man-made things will go in the "dry waste” bin.

Many other Chinese cities plan to use this way to deal with their garbage. Let's encourage each other to deal with our waste well by sorting it to protect the environment.

1Why is it important to know how to deal with the trash in life?

A.Because it helps save energy and protect the environment.

B.Because it helps make much money by selling it.

C.Because it helps keep every neighborhood clean.

D.Because it helps develop children’s good habits.

2How should people in Shanghai separate their waste?

    A.Recyclable and non-recyclable.

    B.Recyclable, non-recyclable and harmful.

    C.Recyclable and other waste.

    D.Recyclable, hazardous, wet and dry.

3Which of the following isn't hazardous waste?

    A.Medicine. B.Paper. C.Batteries. D.Fluorescent bulbs.

    4The passage is mainly about________

A.the way to deal with waste B.the way to stop throwing waste

C.the way to protect the water D.the way to save energy

  • 26、   The 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo has been put off because of the COVID-19. To welcome the great event, Japan has made 5, 000 medals for the winners. But these Olympic medals are very special. They are all made out of recycled electronic devices(电子设备).

One goal of the Tokyo Olympics is to avoid using too many natural resources, so that the games are environmentally friendly. As part of this goal, the organizers decided to make all of the Olympic medals out of metals recycled from old electronic devices.

You might not know it, but almost all the electronic devices are made with small quantities of precious metals (贵金属), like gold and silver. But collecting enough of these metals to make 5, 000 medals was a huge challenge. That's because the quantity of metals in each device is tiny. It would take about 20,000 cell phones to get just 1 kilogram of gold.

Beginning in April 2017, organizers placed collection boxes around the country, and asked people to turn in their old electronic devices for the Olympic medals. Soon people began to fill up the boxes, turning in smartphones, digital cameras, and laptops. At first, the collection work went slowly, but soon more and more areas began to turn in electronic devices, And 1,621 local governments also helped with the collection work. The Japanese mobile phone company NTT Docomo collected 6.21 million used cell phones. In all, around 71,667, 600 kilograms of electronic devices were collected.

Then came the job of breaking those phones down into smaller pieces. This is a tricky(棘手) job. It is also likely to cause danger, because some of the metals and other things that go into electronic devices aren’t safe for people to touch or breathe. That's why it's not a good idea to try something like this at home. Once the devices were broken down, the metals had to be carefully separated out.

On July 24, 2019, the design for the awards was announced. And by the end of March this year, the organizers had reached their goal.

1Why does the author say the Tokyo Olympic medals are special?

A.They can be recycled into other products. B.They are small in size and large in number.

C.They are made out of old electronic devices. D.They are green and seem environmentally friendly.

2What is the main purpose of Paragraph 4?

A.To show the difficulty of the collection work.

B.To thank those who helped with the collection work.

C.To stress the importance of many people working together.

D.To give information on how the collection work was done.

3What does the author think of the break-down work?

A.Dirty and tiring. B.Hard and dangerous.

C.Boring but rewarding. D.Interesting but challenging.

  • 27、   Once there was a poor lady who lived on a hill near the sea. She lived a lonely life. She was so poor that she had to work hard every day.

But one night as she sat at the table, the lady said to herself, “Why can’t I do good to others?” At last, she came up with an idea.

She decided to keep a lighted lamp () at the window for the sailors every night. She found that ships sometimes broke up on the rocks in the sea, since there was no lighthouse to warn them of the danger at night. Maybe her lamp would warn them when their ships came near the rocks on the coast.

The lady felt glad when the thought came through her mind. So she worked late and made money to buy the oil for the lamp and then she placed the lamp at the window each night. In this way she saved many lives.

She did this for five years without the hope of reward ( 报酬). However, good acts were often found out. The sailors whose lives had been saved began to send gifts to her. They sent her tea from China, cloth from India, silk from France and grapes from Spain. But the poor lady did not need these gifts to make her happy. She gave many of them to the poor and the sick.

She was happy with the thought that she was doing good. So, as long as she lived, she lit her lamp each night, and placed it at the window.

1What can we know about the lady?

A.She knew the sailors. B.She worked on a ship.

C.She was kind-hearted. D.She lived alone on the sea.

2Why did the ships sometimes break up on the rocks in the sea?

A.Because the ships were not built well enough. B.Because there was no lighthouse.

C.Because the sailors didn’t have enough experience. D.Because the rocks were too large to avoid.

3How might the sailors feel when they saw the lamp at the window?

    A.Lucky. B.Thankful. C.Sorry. D.Proud.

4What can we learn from the passage?

    A.No pains, no gains.

B.Where there is a will, there is a way.

C.Nothing is more important than safety.

D.It is always worth doing something good for others.

When he came back in the evening to c3 his picture, he was shocked to see that the whole picture was filled with crosses. And some people e4 wrote something on his picture. Sadly, he ran to his master and said, "I failed. And if this is what I have learned, I’m not w5 teaching. "

The master smiled and suggested, "I’ll let you know that you’re a great artist. Now go to paint the same picture again and give it to me. "
