  • 22、How to make true friends

Whether your friendship lasts for a season or a lifetime, here are some ways to make true friends.

Be friendly to people. Your actions should show them that you are a true friend and, in return, they will probably be a true friend to you as well. 【1】 You can't expect someone to be a true friend if you're not a true friend.

【2】 Although life changes may separate you, you can call each other on the phone, visit each other, write letters, send cards, and communicate online through email and social networking sites.

Find friends with some similar interests. You don't have to have everything in common, but it would be helpful if you had some things in common. 【3】

Learn the difference between good friends and bad friends. 【4】 They are always honest with you and they don't do things to hurt you. Bad friends are those who do not seem to value the friendship. They may never be there for you when you need them or do things that are hurtful to you.

【5】 Once you recognize the differences in good friends and bad friends, decide which friends you want to stay connected with and which ones you're better off without. The friends who will stick with you through good times and bad times are true friends. Let them know that you appreciate your friendship and be sure to stay a true friend to them.

    A.Choose your friends carefully.

B.Keep in touch with each other.

C.Accept your friends for who they are.

D.You have to treat people the way you want to be treated.

E.Show your respect to your friends no matter what happens.

F.Good friends are those who are there for you when you need them.

G.Having things in common gives you someone to share and enjoy doing something together.

  • 24、Toothpaste tubes with remaining contents have been a headache for many of us. But not, perhaps, for much longer.

In 2012, Kripa Varanasi, a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and Dave Smith, his PhD student, set up a company called LiquiGlide to produce toothpaste tubes with super-smooth surfaces that promise to deliver every last bit of their contents.

Mibelle Group, a Swiss producer of pricey health-care and beauty products, is the first company to employ the technology to lessen the amount of material left stuck to the insides of containers in its factories when it is time for a clean-up. Now Colgate-Palmolive, an American company, has used LiquiGlide’s technology for its new toothpaste, called Elixir, which has gone on sale in Europe, though no decision has yet been made about whether it will be applied to other cheaper products.

To produce their slippery containers, Dr. Varanasi and Dr. Smith first carved special patterns and then applied a special liquid to fill the gaps and create super slippery surfaces on the inner surfaces.

Besides pleasing customers who like to get their money’s worth, the new and slippery toothpaste tubes can help with recycling. Existing tubes are rarely recycled, not only because they have toothpaste left inside them but also because they are usually made from plastic and aluminum (铝) film. Mixed materials of this sort are hard to recycle, and therefore end up being dumped in landfill, or burned.

Despite their latest success with toothpaste, Dr. Varanasi and Dr. Smith have not given up on food products such as yogurt and cheese which usually come in plastic containers. So far, cheaper consumer product makers have not accepted the idea. But the health and beauty industry, where products tend to be pricier, is interested.

【1】What can be inferred about Elixir?

    A.It is relatively expensive.

B.It cannot be held in normal tubes.

C.It will be on sale in China soon.

D.It can effectively beautify kids' teeth.

【2】What is paragraph 4 mainly about?

A.The problems with the new design.

B.The advantages of the new container.

C.How to make the inside surface slippery.

D.How to get all the contents out of the tube.

【3】Which is LiquiGlide’s latest marketing success?

    A.Beauty industry.

    B.Fast food industry.

    C.Bottled water industry.

    D.Toothpaste industry.

【4】What should be done to help the tube enter more consumer product markets?

    A.Lowering the costs.

    B.Improving its recyclability.

    C.Increasing quantity.

    D.Spending more on advertisements.

四、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Thanksgiving Day was near. Miss Spring, the first-grade teacher, gave her class a fun assignment (作业) -to draw a picture of something for which they were thankful.

Most of the class might be considered economically disadvantaged, but still many would celebrate the holiday with turkey and other traditional goodies(好吃的东西) of the season. These, the teacher thought, would be the subjects of most of her students' art. And they were.

But Douglas made a different kind of picture. Douglas was a different kind of boy. He was the teacher's true child of misery, frail(瘦弱的)and unhappy. His mother died when he was just five. He lived with his father, who was hopelessly crippled from a back injury. They got support from his old grandfather, who was a poor, bad-tempered fisherman. Sometimes, it seemed it was much easier for him to be alone in his own world than to talk to others. As other children played joyfully during the breaks between classes, Douglas was likely to stand close by the side of Miss Spring. One could only guess at the pain Douglas felt behind those sad eyes.

Yes, his picture was different. When asked to draw a picture of something for which he was thankful, he drew a hand. Nothing else. Just an empty hand with long fingers.

His abstract image caught the imagination of his classmates. Whose hand could it be? One child guessed it was the hand of a farmer, because farmers raise turkeys. Another suggested a police officer, because the police protect and care for people. Still others guessed it was the hand of a family member, such as a father or a mother, because they give them food and take care of them. And so the discussion went -everybody was curious about whose hand it was, until they almost forgot the young artist himself, who remained silent.

    注意:

    1.续写词数应为150左右;

    2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

Then the children went on to other assignments, and Miss Spring paused at Douglas' desk.
