21、 I’m interested in coding and technology, but there’s a huge gender gap in the computing field, meaning girls are in the minority. I wanted to change that. I started the Catwalk Coding Camp where girls learn how to code(编程) light-up accessories (配饰) and show them at a fashion show. I thought the main result would be that some would be interested enough to learn more, but it turned out that the girls were hungry for role models in the field.
I’d never seen myself as a role model, but suddenly there were younger girls looking up to me. It made me want to be better. This “role model psychology" doesn’t just change what I do out in the world; it changes what I do for myself. I’m halfway through my first year as a computer science major. To be honest, it’s not always easy!
I struggled, and there was a moment when I considered changing my major. Difficult as it is, I survive and move on. Look around the lecture hall and only one third of the students are girls. Then when we break up into sections led by more advanced students, only 2 to 3 sections are run by women.
It keeps me going to know that so many girls look up to me. They have decided that if another girl can go into computer science, they can as well. I want to do well so I can become a section leader in years to come, hoping to close the gender gap in the field.

23、Steven Spielberg never fails to blow us away with his imagination.
The US director’s latest film Ready Player One, which was released in Chinese mainland cinemas on March 30, is a story set in the year 2045, when people escape their hopeless everyday lives by putting on a VR mask and entering a virtual (虚拟的) world named Oasis. This fantasy land is filled with characters and settings right out of classic films and videogames like The Shining and Overwatch. It’s a feast both for the eyes and mind. And at the age of 71, Spielberg is still “at the top of his game”, wrote reporter Rafer Guzman on Newsday.
Indeed, Spielberg has always been a gamer himself or rather a game changer. When his thriller Jaws came out in 1975, it struck a chord (引起共鸣) with audiences all over the world and kept people from going swimming for fear. The film was also the first example of what we now know as summer blockbusters.
“Jaws invented that form of pleasurable entertainment, wrote Stephen Marche on Esquire. It also turned sharks, in the popular imagination, from fish into monsters.”
And again, in his 1982 film E. T. the Extra-Terrestrial Spielberg challenged people’s beliefs that aliens are something to be feared by telling a story about a loving friendship between a space creature and a little boy. “Spielberg redefined popular sci-fi”, wrote Marc Lee on The Telegraph. “Extra-terrestrials no longer had to be a threat to humanity: the universe, he was saying, is also full of awe and wonder.”
Now comes Ready Player One. When Wade Watts, the film’s teenage protagonist (主角), finally prevents Oasis from falling into the wrong hands, he’s given ownership of the virtual world by its late designer James Halliday. But Watts makes a decision that he hopes will make people want to appreciate their real lives, instead of spending all their free time escaping reality in Oasis, which is a real-life message that Spielberg is trying to deliver to the audience.
【1】What is the article mainly about?
A. Spielberg’s suggestions for other film directors.
B. Spielberg’s new film and his achievements.
C. The secret to Spielberg’s success.
D. The life journey of Spielberg.
【2】Which film is considered the first example of a “summer blockbuster”?
A. The Shining
B. E. T. the Extra-Terrestrial
C. Jaws
D. Jurassic Park
【3】Why is E. T. the Extra-Terrestrial special among all alien films?
A. It was the first film about aliens.
B. It questions the existence of aliens.
C. It describes aliens as something friendly.
D. It points out that aliens are a threat to humanity.
【4】What message does Spielberg want to deliver with Ready Player One?
A. People should enjoy their real lives as much as they can.
B. People can find much pleasure in virtual worlds.
C. It’s difficult for people to escape reality.
D. People should have the right to choose whether to enter virtual worlds.
24、Since the time when the Romans first settled on the Danube River and built one of their most important central European forts (堡垒), Vindobona, the city we now know as Vienna, has played a very important role in European history. Austria grew up around the city and developed into a strong empire (帝国). The capital became a famous place during the rule of the Habsburg dynasty.
Today, Vienna is one of the most popular tourist spots in Austria as well as a major center of modern business and culture. Many different cultures have fused their cultural identities to produce the amazing Viennese culture. It is said that the most beautiful German is spoken in this old city.
A city of music, cafes, waltzes, parks, cakes, and wine — that's Vienna. Famous composers such as Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert made Vienna into a city of music. Vienna also has a lot to offer in art and architecture. Yet the bars and clubs make a trip to Vienna an unforgettable experience. Vienna's cooking diversity is also impressive. Dumpling soup, tender boiled beef and apple rolls are typical Austrian dishes.
The face of the city has changed time and again due to war, victory, defeat, the death of an empire and the birth of a republic, foreign occupation (占领), and the passage of time. Fortunately, the Viennese character —a strict devotion to the good life — has remained solid.
