四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、My dear boys and girls, good morning. Today I’m going to talk to you about my understanding of learning history.

Many of you may think it is a terrible thing to study history. You may often wonder why we students should study something that has nothing to do with our own lives. If you think that way, I should say you are far from the truth.

In fact, if we study history, we can learn quite a lot about personal stories and events of people just like us. The people who came before us helped build and develop the country we are living in. Their ideas often solved many of our problems and troubles. Studying the past helps us to understand what our ancestors’ (祖先) lives were like. And it also helps us to see how their experiences have shaped our own life.

To be honest, . Some of what we study in history helps us understand the mistakes of the past. And these mistakes will help people not to do the same wrong things. People often learn from the past to have a better future.

Whether we like the subject of history or not, we must understand the importance of the events and the people who came before us. Our ancestors’ decisions have influenced our own life. Similarly, the decisions of our own generation will finally influence those who come after us. In this only way, the world is truly connected.

History is not just a study of the past. History is the study of people, places, and events that can influence the future.

Now do you still think studying history is a sad thing? Or do you have any doubt about learning history? If you have any questions, just feel free to ask.

【1】If we study history, we can learn that ________.

A.history has nothing to do with our own lives

B.our ancestors helped build and develop our country

C.our ancestors’ ideas solved all our problems and troubles

D.our ancestors’ experiences can’t shape our own life

【2】Which of the following can be put in the in Paragraph 4?

A.the mistakes of the past won’t help us

B.I don’t like the idea of learning history

C.it is not easy to learn the subject of history

D.not everything that happened in the past is good

【3】The writer wrote the passage to ________.

A.introduce some important people in history

B.develop students’ interest in learning history

C.explain different people’s understanding of history

D.show the relationship between the past and the future

  • 25、For nearly 250 years, Debrett’s has advised the British public on suitable social manners. Now, it has listed modern guide to good manners, answering the questions that most trouble the British public in 2014.

    ★Using mobile phone in public

More questions are asked about mobile use than any other case. According to Debrett’s, it is always rude to pay more attention to a phone than the people around you, and they should always be put away when you’re paying for something in a shop. They should be turned off in theatres, cinemas or any space where silence is required.

    ★Smoking e-cigarettes at work

As electronic cigarettes become more popular, questions about whether they are acceptable in the workplace are asked more often. According to Debrett’s, they should never be used in a work environment. Smoking e-cigarettes at work shows that you’re not focused on your work and may also have a bad influence on your workmates.

★Giving up your seat on public transport

In a recent university experiment only 20 per cent of London tube passengers are willing to give up their seat to people in need. According to Debrett’s, passengers should always offer to give up their seat to any person that is pregnant, elderly, or clearly in need. It is important to remember, however, that it is just as impolite to rudely refuse the offer of a seat as it is to not offer a seat.

    ★Eating before everyone is served

The final question is one that we’ve all asked ourselves: is it rude to start eating at the table before everyone else has been served? According to Debrett’s, the simple answer is yes, unless the host or hostess permits dinners to start.

【1】How many questions about good manners are listed in the passage?

    A. 250.B. 2014.C. 4.  D. 20.

【2】British people are most interested in the guide to ______.

    A. using mobile phone in public

    B. smoking e-cigarettes at work

    C. giving up seats on public transport

    D. eating before everyone is served

【3】 From the passage, we know ______.

    A. people should turn off mobile phones when shopping.

    B. more people smoke e-cigarettes at work than before.

    C. it’s always polite to refuse when others offer a seat to you.

    D. we can start eating as soon as all of us sit at the table.

  • 26、   Have you ever heard of e-waste, which can be produced every day? How do you deal with your computers, MP4 players and mobile phones when they're broken or you want a new one?

Most people just throw them away. With the development of electric industry, e-waste pollution has become a serious problem. According to the United Nations, in 2014, people around the world produced 41.8 million tons of e-waste and only recycled 6.5 million tons. The US was the biggest waster, producing 7.1 million tons. China came second, with 6 million tons.

It's important to pay attention to e-waste. It can either be valuable or harmful, depending on how we deal with it. E-waste is a valuable urban mine (城市矿藏). The value of the metals, like gold and silver in the waste around the world, is amazing. And the metals can be reused. But if people throw them away, the toxic (有毒的) chemicals can get into the earth or air, affecting the environment and people's health.

Apple, for example, now recycles people's used products in China when they are buying new ones. The company will test and repair the used ones and sell them at lower prices. To help reduce e-waste, we can also take computers and phones to see if companies offer recycling programs.

    1The following can become e-waste except ________.

    A.computers B.mobile phones C.plastic bags D.MP4 players

2Which country produced the most e-waste last year according to the Unite Nations?

    A.America B.China C.Japan D.the UK

3What does the underlined word "affecting" mean in this passage?

    A.protecting B.influencing C.improving D.changing

    4From Paragraph 4, we learn that ________.

A.the recycled Apple products will be sold at higher prices

B.we should improve the sense of reducing e-waste

C.it's better to keep the unwanted electronics at home

D.used electric products can't be recycled

5The main purpose of this passage is to ________.

    A.prove that e-waste is useless

B.talk about the value of e-waste

C.encourage people to buy more electronic products

D.advise people to deal with e-waste properly to reduce pollution

Have you ever stayed in a hotel? Most Chinese hotels often1guests(旅客) with things like disposable(一次性的) toothbrushes, toothpaste(牙膏), shampoo(洗发水) and slippers(拖鞋).

Many guests like the idea2they don’t have to bring their own. But if you travel to Beijing, 3[rɪ’membə(r)] to bring these things of your own. That’s because some hotels in Beijing have no longer provided guests with these disposables (一次性用品). Many disposable things are4(make)of plastic. People throw them5[ə’weɪ] after only using them once. It’s a waste of natural resources (资源) and is very bad for the environment.

In Beijing, people throw around about 19,000 tons of plastic bags and 1,320 tons of lunch bowls every year!

Plastic can take 100 to 400 years to break down(降解). So the6 (little) plastic we throw away, the better environment we will have.

So, wherever you travel, bring your own things and use them again and 7. Back at home and school, you can also do something to make our world a better place. Try to do these things in your8[‘evrideɪ] life:

    Use9(clothes)shopping bags, not plastic ones.

After using a plastic bag, wash it out and let it dry. Then use it over and over again.

At your school canteen (餐厅), use your own bowls and chopsticks instead10 disposable ones.
