24、It was Christmas Eve. When everyone went to bed,Bunny couldn’t fall asleep. He still couldn’t think of what he wanted as a special Christmas present. He wondered how Santa-Father Christmas would know what to bring him if he didn’t know himself.
As he was sitting up in bed, Bunny heard a big noise on the roof and a sound downstairs. It was Santa Claus, he realized. Bunny jumped out of bed and ran down the hall to the stairs. He hoped to take a look at the old man before Santa left for his next stop.
By the time Bunny was at the bottom of the stairs, everything was silent again. Lots of presents were put under the Christmas tree, but Santa was gone. A little disappointed, Bunny turned to climb back upstairs when he heard a cry.
“Hello,”said Bunny.“Is somebody there?”
He was answered by another cry. Bunny looked around the big pile of presents to see what was making the noise. Right under the tree was a funny looking brown animal with big feet and sad eyes. It also had antlers(鹿角)on its head. Bunny almost mistook it for a dog.
“Are you a reindeer?”asked Bunny.
“Yes,”replied the brown animal with antlers. “My name is Ralph.”
“And you were pulling Santa’s sled(雪橇)?”
“I was until I got air-sick,”replied Ralph.“Santa had to leave me here and go on with the other seven reindeer.”
“Isn’t it a bit unusual for a reindeer to get air-sick?I mean, isn’t flying what reindeer are famous for?”
“Not me, I’m afraid. It makes me scared. I always feel sick when it comes to flying,”replied Ralph. “But everyone wanted me to pull Santa’s sled, so when it was my turn I gave it a try. I’m afraid I just wasn’t cut out for the job. Now I’m stuck here and I don’t know how to get back to the North Pole.”

25、How to Be a Better Student
Maybe you are a common student. You probably think you will never be a top student. This is not necessary so, however. Anyone can become a better student if he or she wants to. Here's how:
Plan your time carefully. When you plan your week, you should make a list of things that you have to do. After making this list, you should make a schedule of your time. First set your time for eating, sleeping, dressing, etc. Then decide a good, regular time for studying. Don't forget to set aside enough time for entertainment. A weekly schedule may not solve all your problems, but it will force you to realize what is happening to your time.
Find a good place to study. Look around the house for a good study area. Keep this space, which may be a desk or simply a corner of your room, free of everything but study materials. No games, radios, or television! When you sit down to study, concentrate on the subject.
Make good use of your time in class. Take advantage of class time to listen to everything the teachers say. Really listening in class means less work later. Taking notes will help you remember what the teacher says.
Study regularly. When you get home from school, go over your notes, review the important points that your teacher is going to discuss the next day, read that material. This will help you understand the next class. If you do these things regularly, the material will become more meaningful, and you will remember it longer.
Develop a good attitude about tests. The purpose of a test is to show what you have learned about a subject. They help you remember your new knowledge. The world won't end if you don't pass a test, so don’t be over worried.
There are other methods that might help you with your studying. You will probably discover them after you have tried these.

A. Four. B. Five. C. Six. D. Seven.

A. By taking notes in class.
B. By concentrating on the subject.
C. By listening to everything.
D. By discussing with your classmates.
【4】What is the purpose of a test according to the writer?
A. To help you solve some problems.
B. To make us become better students.
C. To discover if you are interested in a subject.
D. To show what you have learned about a subject.
26、American writer Toni Morrison was born in Ohio in 1931. She was raised in an African American family filled with songs and Southern fairy stories which later shaped her prose (散文). Her happy family life led to her excellent performance in school, although there was an atmosphere of racial discrimination (种族歧视) in the society.
After graduating from college, Morrison started to work as a teacher and got married in 1958.
Several years later, her marriage began to fail. For a short-term escape, she joined a small writers’ group, in which each member was required to bring a story or poem for discussion. She wrote a story based on the life of a girl she knew in childhood who wished for blue eyes. The story was well received by the group, but then she put it away, thinking she was done with it.
In 1964, Morrison ended her marriage and devoted herself to writing. One day, she dusted off the story she had written for the writer’s group and decided to make it into a novel. She drew on her memories from childhood and expanded upon them using her imagination so that the characters developed a life of their own. The Bluest Eye was eventually published in 1970.
From 1970 to 1992, Morrison published five more novels. In her novels, Morrison brings in different elements (要素) of the African American past, their struggles, problems and cultural memory. In Song of Solomon, for example, Morrison tells the story of an African American man and his search for identity in his culture. The novels and other works won her several prizes.
